A Scandinavian Sailing Odyssey - How we sailed our Albin Vega in Norway, Sweden & Denmark - Part 1

  • Опубліковано 15 жов 2024
  • Summer had finally arrived, and it was time to go sailing. From Norway the wind pushed our Albin Vega sailboat to Sweden and Denmark and back again.
    We sailed in the ocean
    Walked in a desert
    Had good food on board
    Swam in the sea
    Battled with the weather, and tried to not get seasick
    We dodged fishing nets and rocks
    And we enjoyed every single moment
    We hope you enjoy watching this sailing odyssey. Please hit the like button and leave a comment.
    Thanks for watching!

    Excellent videos. I plan on sailing to Norway in the hopefully not too distant future as I have always been fascinated by Scandinavia. I'm taking the lockdown here in the UK as an opportunity to learn Norwegian, so I was really pleased to see you had Norwegian subtitles. Tusen takk fra Storbritannia.

    Greetings from the US. I find Scandinavia beautiful and most interesting. I just adore the Vega. Rare to see on this side of the Atlantic. But occasionally I see one. Must be a sturdy ship for sailors to have crossed. Fair Winds.

      Greetings Roy. It's a fine ship indeed. I follow a couple of instagram sailors based in the US who owns a Vega. But you are right, they are rare over there. Most Vegas seem to be based in Scandinavia, and also a considerable amount in the Netherlands/Germany. I once read a description saying "A pocket sized go anywhere cruiser". I can't find a better way to describe her :)

    Hey there Pål. It’s Tam in northern Sweden here, my other channel is Sub Arctic Life and I think I have spoken with you from there I think.
    Just to let you know that I have had my first sail, albeit a short one, in my Albin Vega and it was absolutely wonderful. I have a question for you if you don’t mind. Which roller furler would you suggest for my forestay sail ? I am thinking of keeping the roller furler boom at the moment.
    Thanks Pål.

    • @norwaywithpal
      @norwaywithpal  3 роки тому +1

      Hei Tam, nice to hear from you! Glad you had a good first sail on your Albin Vega! We just came back from 3 weeks of sailing vacation along the southern coast of Norway, and we had a blast!
      I would recommend you the Furlex 100s. See if maybe you can find one used, and have the wire replaced (if it comes with one). This is the furling system I have, and I'm very satisfied. Selden also got a jib furling system which is probably good as well.
      I have a roller boom on mine and to be honest it works well. It's good practice to have to go up to the mast every now and then, and I don't agree with those who say you should pull all the ropes to the cockpit. I plan on making another reefing system for my "deppest" reef, as it's usually the only one I use, but it will also be handled from the mast. Okay, now you got me going ;) take care

      @@norwaywithpal Awesome to hear about your trip Pål, my Vega is also a boom roller and I have some practicing to do. Currently we are sailing Joemarin 34 and it feels a bit big for our needs and the bigger the boat the bigger the efforts and costs to maintain. Also I would be interested about the shallower draft of Vega since I like to dock to rocky islands. Anyways I got interested about the blue buoy member thing since it would be nice to sail to Sweden/Denmark/Norway some day. Can you put some link here where I could get the membership?

    • @norwaywithpal
      @norwaywithpal  2 роки тому

      Hey Tapio! I followed your logic when I bought my Albin Vega. Smaller boat = less maintenance, less cost = more sailing. She is also only 1,2 m draft so can take her into very shallow water and anchorages..
      The buoys are great, but your best investment is a good anchor, and just anchor “naturally” against rocks etc. we do that all the time. I got a 10 kg Rocna and 8 meter chain hanging on the stern. + 50 meter partly leaded rope . It has never failed me

      And yeah sounds good that you have found Vega a good alternative for a bigger boat. There are also plenty of Vegas for sale in Finland so shouldn't be too hard to get one.

      Hi Rob, glad you liked the video! For the flags that cover buoys all over Sweden (west+ east coast), you can go here: www.sxk.se/english
      For the Oslo Fjord: www.oslofjorden.org/bli-medlem/
      (unfortunately only in Norwegian, but I am sure you can call them)
      Or you can do KNBF. They got buoys all over Norway: knbf.no/english-article

      Also, if you are comfortable with anchoring there are plenty of spots for that. Usually the buoys are put out in good anchorages, so you'll have a mix of boats on anchor/buoy
