Erik, you are truly a sailor’s sailor and a Viking’s Viking. Well, we could carry that a little further, a videographer’s…. anyway, you are a storyteller extraordinaire. Congratulations on another epic voyage, well documented and, equally, well narrated. Small victories keep life interesting, even if they are won of imaginary competitions, and @23:00 I wholeheartedly agree! Life is a celebration, every single minute of it, especially when you overcome life’s challenges and make it happen. Good for you for celebrating. I’m glad to see you loving life and sharing your adventures with us. Viking on!! ❤🎉🌬️🌊👍🤗💫
what a great video ! you are really starting to become a pro at filming and narrating your videos into really great adventures , Its just a joy to watch ! safe winds
Pro status has been fully achieved and surpassed, Erik is beyond expert, even if he doesn't see it himself yet. I got full body shivers from the depth of feeling invoked within the first 30 seconds! I have no words but thank you!!!
Eric, love what you are doing! When sailing dead down wind, I recommend you run a preventer to stabilize your boom. Also, try flying the gennaker without your mainsail as you may find it flies better when you are sailing that deep. Also when picking up a mooring run your own line through the loop in the mooring line and back to the bow cleat on the other side of the bow. That way you don’t have to bring a big stinky line on board that has been living in the water. All of this you may well know, but if not happy to share. Keep up the good work.
Hi, a sound is like a funnel, you must always count on more winds there. If you pull a dinghi behind your boat, make sure, that the length of the rope is just so long, that your dinghi is running down your sternwave, not running up, in this way it costs you much less speed.
Great to see you enjoy sailing the Sound of Mull and Inner Hebrides. You didn't mention an amazing true story about the Point of Ardnamurchan. In the late 19th Century a ship sailing up the coast of Canada to Nova Scotia and Labrador was caught in a big storm, with about 90 passengers on board. The storm pushed them way out into the Atlantic, and the winds kept pushing them east. After a few weeks at sea with no idea where they were, they managed to sail past Rum until they saw the light of the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, where they dropped anchor, as they did not have any charts. They did not even know which country they had come to - it could have been Ireland, England or maybe Iceland or Norway. A local boat captain saw them the next morning and recognised it was not a Scottish or European ship, so told the Harbour Master in Tobermory, who went to investigate, and pilot the ship safely into Tobermory. The Canadian passengers were welcomed into the village and stayed with the local people on Mull for another 6 weeks, until a captain from Glasgow who was qualified to sail the ship back to Canada was available. (the Canadian Captain was not qualified to sail back over the ocean). I cannot remember the name of the Canadian ship, or what year this happened but there is more information about this in the museum in Tobermory. Best wishes from Scotland.
We had fish and chips from the harbour kiosk at Tobermory and my wife puts it in the top 3 chip shop meals we've ever had along with the twice a week Jacks Chippy in Pierowall on Westray in the Orkney Islands and the Harbour Chippy in Portavogie, Northern Ireland. It's no coincidence that the best fish and chips are sold within sight of where the fish is unloaded from the boats.
Erik, Gennerkers aren't designed for dead downwind. Try running a slightly hotter angle to keep it see. although its may involve having to put some jibes in. But it's better than rolling out or rapping it around your forstay, Also, keep slight pressure in the sail to get a tighter nicer furl. Love it all.
Thanks for yet another great video. Not sure that was a C130 Hercules, though - looked more like a A400M (Mr Pedant speaking)...does much the same job. A C130 replacement I believe...
Beautiful you, beautiful boat, beautiful music, beautiful water, beautiful lighthouse, stone walls & beautiful Scotland. Sail that boat in a kilt and I might faint. Cheers. Thank you for sharing. My heart beats faster. ❤
You are in my home waters. Great marina at Kerrara. Good wee cafe / bar. I think they include one return ferry to the town. I was sheltering against a F8, not the lovely calm night you had.
Towing the dinghy! I once lost a dinghy off Lochaline (where the ferry crosses the Sound of Mull) and ever since then, the dinghy ALWAYS comes aboard, no matter how benign the conditions!
Really enjoyable to watch, your drone skills in 20-25 knots are seriously impressive. I also liked the facts about the lighthouse construction etc and that you gave the kite a go but sensibly got rid of it before it turned into a mess! Editing is just seamless too, makes it so easy to watch. Keep it up!
What a wonderful video Erik. I have sailed these waters for most of my adult life and it is truly great to see someone of your skill enjoy our beautiful islands and lochs. I can’t wait for the next one!! Thank you so much.
One of the most beautiful parts of the world. I lived in Oban for a few years in the 1970s. And if you can support the RNLI, you really should. Next year is the RNLI's 200th anniversary. A really worthwhile charity.
I love your videos sitting at home in a warm room with a glass of whine. Im Sweden The Baltic sea i sail 5-6 months a year , the rest i live in Barcelona . To cold for me, but your videos are great. Be careful 👍👍
Really enjoyed that one Erik. Specially seeing you working the sails and getting the best out of Tessie. (Always a good feeling overhauling another boat).
You've reminded me of a wee 4 day cruise I took last year. I was on one of the tiny cruise ships that are moored at Oban Marina. The boat was called Glen Etive. Had the same crazy seas you had along the Sound of Mull and were glad to drop anchor in a wee lochan where we were able to buy mussels. Thanks for reviving the memory.
amazing amazing. You are a legend and I am after two years following you ⛵️ I did the route you did and am doing, I started from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Shetland, Paula. Fair Island Orkney in Scotland I was 4 months. Today I anchor in France. The journey stopped on Black Day 7/10 the day Hamas attacked Israel Thank you for inspiring me 🙏🙏⛵️
Thought it looked like a pretty boat… the CO on the bow explained that bit! Have done a bit of sailing up the Tobermory - Oban way in a Contessa 32. Brilliant boats. Brilliant place. Edit: I was actually at that regatta. The video didn’t show the boat I was on, but we did raft up in Tobermory with the boat at 9:38 - a lovely Northeney 34, if I remember right. That was a bumpy night - glad I had the pilot berth!
Not only good to push the limits for your self confidence but you need to learn how the boat can perform / handle the extreme conditions. Another great video Erik.
Love your channel, quality filming, editing, sailing and music, thank you for all of your hard work. One suggestion, have 2 lines on your dinghy. I have seen two other channels where they had one line and lost theirs so they have two lines now, connected to two different points on the dingy :)
I sailed to "The Small Islands" in June this year. We were with some friends from Switzerland who had a list of things to see. A distillery, Talisker on Skye, tick. Puffins up close, Lunga Island, tick. Red deer and otters on Rum, no tick. We arrived in the evening on an unusually warm still night and took the tender ashore. Our plan was to go to an otter hide to catch them in the evening dusk. We lasted 15 minutes ashore before the wildlife attacked. If you have never experienced a full on midge attack, you are lucky. Great video of my home waters.😂
Great drone footage in this one and some exciting sailing! Careful with that gennaker though. When the boat starts to roll from side to side in strong winds with the gennaker up, you’re close to doing what’s called a ‘Chinese gybe’, which will cause Tessie to fully broach and maybe break some rigging. Best to err on the side of caution! Hey, when two sailboats see each other with sails up, it’s a race! I’m a good tactician onboard and have beaten faster boats by using a better strategy! Glad you finally found a calm anchorage and a cold beer after an exciting day of sailing. Got my burgee and will fly it with pride next spring during sailing season. There’s a 2000’ cliff called Jaw Point that I plan to sail to next season and get some drone footage of. Thnx for keeping me inspired during the off season!
Great to see you are enjoying my homeland, got to agree clyde crusing club books are excellent source of information 👏. Thanks for the video looking forward to the next one 👍⛵🏴
Another great video it’s amazing seeing this area I know so well especially with your great drone camera work . Your doing a great job helping the Scottish tourist board Where a lot of Scandinavian sailors over in Scotland sailing this year
Excellent episode.. Aaron Dolan plays outstanding pieces for background pipes . Breathtaking views - Scottish coastline is renowned for it's picturesque beauty Needless to say Scotland, from the 8th to 15 century was colonized by vikings from Scandinavia and Norway, leaving a fair percentage of scots, Viking descended
Erik, you never fail to impress. I especially appreciate your no BS drama that most others seem to think that is necessary to attract viewers. Just sailing. Just water borne adventures and beautiful port visits. I look forward to your adventures every Sunday morning while enjoying my coffee and envying your sea faring life. Take care brother and stay safe.
Hei hei Erik, the vids are getting better and better... Double E: educating and entertaining... I know it was August but still way too cold for me despite all the years I lived in Noreg... Laff... Anyway, glad to see you are in good health both you and Tessie... Another Norsk sailor from Tønsberg sailing a huge Bavaria did a vid on the perils of flying the Jib in Force7 and above... Nothing like the Nordic sailors... Fair Winds...
Watching your videos is so much fun. As you go along your journey we get to see beautiful coasts and towns. We also feel the excitement and get anxious as waves grow bigger and wind blows harder. Thank you for dragging us into your journeys with your videos. Sail safely.
I love it up around there , I am glad you are enjoying Scotland though I would have thought it is similar to Norway in a lot of ways and a lot of the Scottish people are mostly descended from Viking settlers themselves , Oban is lovely and has Craigs folly over looking it on the hill above and Tobermory with its famous galleon wreck and the Gulf of Corryvreckan whirlpool found between Jura and Scarba .
That was fabulous as usual Erik. I loved the trip alongside you. The St Kilda visit was amazing. To think that you follow the Vikings is so very special. Thanks 🙏 again for brilliance x
Try sheeting in a little extra on the gennaker when the sideway dance starts. This IOR-wobbling is typical for boats of this age, like mine. I usually have to overtrim the spinnaker or the wobbling just increases. The wobbling starts because the sail points too much to windward and pulls the mast windward. Also Your boom won't bang over the cockpit back and forth if You let the sheet out all the way so the boom touches the shrouds. Much less risk of an accidental gybe that way.
I'm beginning to think an assymetric spinnaker with a dousing sock is the way to go. In light winds any system is ok but in those conditions better to douse in any shape and be safe. Great scenery of Scotland.
Maaaaaan, that was unbelievable! Amazing video again, great drone shots. Can't wait to see the next part through Scotland. Congratulations to you for doing this sailing while filming. Unreal...
WOW..that was another amazing and beautiful vlog of your great trip to so beautiful Scotland Erik. I liked it very much❤ I can imagine that afterwards you are also still astonished by the drone footage seeing the surounding from your boat. Only small recognition correcting from this polemologist&skipper..was a Made in EUrope A400M transport plane of RAF ;-) Bravely forward and sail on today's wind, yesterday's wind will no longer take you forward, tomorrow's wind may stay out, so sail on today's wind..or at least try😅😊
Excellent videos. We were up in Tobermory and Oban at the same time as you in early Aug, doing West Highland Yachting Week. It was quite "bouncy" at Tobs on the evening of 3 Aug! You also had an easier sail into Rum than we did a few years back! Keep the videos coming in.

You look happy Erik. Thank you for the movie production quality footage. The drone shots are epic!
23:10 that's a happy sailor

I used to sail up there, before marinas and mooring bouys in all the best anchoring places. I don't like these developments due to cost.
Glorious video btw. The lack of "boat channel" stuff on Scotland's West coast is always remarkable.

But it's better than rolling out or rapping it around your forstay, Also, keep slight pressure in the sail to get a tighter nicer furl. Love it all.
I was going to post the same … but the channel is narrow … so I guess that’s the explanation?
That gennaker looks fierce on your boat! Cheers to Rolly Tasker
Thanks for yet another great video. Not sure that was a C130 Hercules, though - looked more like a A400M (Mr Pedant speaking)...does much the same job. A C130 replacement I believe...
I took a shot!😅 Thanks for the correction!
@@erikaanderaa Globemaster C17. Another pedant. 🙂Enjoyed this episode very much. Thank you.
Hmmm Globemaster C17 has jet engines. This one has propellors. Oh dear. I forgot this a sailing channel not a plane spotters channel!!
I hang my head in shame. It is indeed an A400. I blame the whisky.
Beautiful you, beautiful boat, beautiful music, beautiful water, beautiful lighthouse, stone walls & beautiful Scotland. Sail that boat in a kilt and I might faint. Cheers.

Your voiceovers are some of the best on YT.
Towing the dinghy! I once lost a dinghy off Lochaline (where the ferry crosses the Sound of Mull) and ever since then, the dinghy ALWAYS comes aboard, no matter how benign the conditions!
I have seen many of these places in the highlands and islands of Scotland, but never quite like this before👌. Absolutely stunning Erik
....And shipwreck is sweet to me
in this Scottish sea!
Thank you Erik for sharing your beautiful journeys with us. Good wind
Awesome as always✊

173,305th (?!) rePete view - because you captured some magnificent views of some spectacular areas my own eyes won't likely ever see otherwise.
Spectacular. The way its filmed the landscape the music! 👍👍💯

What a beautifull environment. Really awesome!!⛵⛵⛵
Great!!!in all its aspects.Eric is a real descendant of Vikings!!
The Caledonian canal is SO on my list when I get over there!
It’s HARD work
Dinghy was surfing like 'Wheeeee!!!' while you were flying gennaker:)
you are making me homesick eric ,ive sailed and scuba dived a lot of the places that you have filmed on this series
Erik, thank you for sharing with us your adventures. The quality of your video is second to none. The guys in Hollywood need few tips from you !!!
Great video thanks Erik. BTW, that low flying aircraft was an A400M - it replaces the Hercules aircraft as a turboprop workhorse.
Much bigger than the Hercules
agreed Airbus A400M Atlas, give away was for me was the T tail. 😊
The current and wind changes sailing to Oban was frightening but you make it look so easy..Beautiful 👍
Mr.Erik..is always a pleasure to see you navigating through the north... Please don't stop.

Hi Erik, try furling the Gennaker behind an opened Genoa, but keep the sheet rope slightly tensioned. Thats what I do. Cheers

Another great chapter. Loved seeing the scenery of this gorgeous place.
As usual, a beautiful video.
I can't wait for Chapter 6.
Repeatedly crash-jibing in 20 knots with the gennaker flying. Just wow!
Awesome sailing and stunning scenery! And with beer in hand what a way indeed, to celebrate life! 👍
Great video Erik! I plan to backtrack this journey in the spring on Spirit. Looking forward to the next chapter. Fair winds.
One of your best. Thank you Eric. You are a real inspiration.👍

Thank, great to be here!
getting 8 knots with the gennaker on a boat with a hull speed of 6.5 knots is some achievement
Great to see you are enjoying my homeland, got to agree clyde crusing club books are excellent source of information 👏. Thanks for the video looking forward to the next one 👍⛵🏴
This was a great inet. Loved all the details about different light houses and all.
Another great video it’s amazing seeing this area I know so well especially with your great drone camera work .

Kudos to you. You are living a life that many dream of (including me).
PLEASE DONT STOP THESES PODCASTS
If you get any dislikes on this video it's probably from the guy you passed just before Oben. Mvh Jarle
hahaha
The Music (and the Video) is great! Very good idea to use this Kind of Music! Fits perfect!
you mention wake of ancestors.. I feel I am there too. great videos.
You really are a master of your craft. I salute you good sir
Many thanks for visiting Scotland
Congratulations Erik, another great chapter!!! May the good winds and great adventures continue!!!
Fantastic editing job. Always enjoy your videos. Thank you so much .
Fantastic adventure, Erik! But please tell me you're sampling the legendary single malts in these famed towns.
Watching your videos is so much fun. As you go along your journey we get to see beautiful coasts and towns. We also feel the excitement and get anxious as waves grow bigger and wind blows harder. Thank you for dragging us into your journeys with your videos. Sail safely.
Eric another great video the music is chilling almosy haunting with the back drop
10,546th tag-along view gonna become the 1.5K+ LIKE... let's go sailing with Erik!
What a good one, and you seem to feel better than you have in awhile, so hopefully all is well. I loved the music, it’s perfect with your videos.
I love your videos. this one is fun and also gives the feel of the adventure
Brilliant, as always Erik.
Its a long way from Aus, but WOW, I am super keen to sail Scotland after watching this
I love it up around there , I am glad you are enjoying Scotland though I would have thought it is similar to Norway in a lot of ways and a lot of the Scottish people are mostly descended from Viking settlers themselves , Oban is lovely and has Craigs folly over looking it on the hill above and Tobermory with its famous galleon wreck and the Gulf of Corryvreckan whirlpool found between Jura and Scarba .

Much less risk of an accidental gybe that way.
incredible, absolutely stunning!
I'm beginning to think an assymetric spinnaker with a dousing sock is the way to go. In light winds any system is ok but in those conditions better to douse in any shape and be safe. Great scenery of Scotland.
Great video…really captured the beauty of the scenery and the sail down the sound of Mull was perfect. Great series!
Fantastic. His adventures are inspiration. Big Erik !
As always! Great video, Erik!
.......and celebrate life.... Thanks for reminding us.. Respect!
Beat me to it, the aircraft was an A400M Atlas of the Royal Air Force. Another awesome video Erik
Stunning video in everyway, thank you, sitting watching you and the landacape on a large screen is a treat. Much appreciated.
one of your best episodes yet Erik! Cheers!
Absolutely beautiful. The music, the drone shots, the cinematography, very, very, well done 👍
