Thank you so much. Just changed mine after 30k miles on a GT4 and they were filthy. The OEM filters had nice metal female threads to screw into, but I am sure the BMC filters are secure as well. OEM filters did not have the gaskets the BMC does and BMC did not say I needed the grease so I did not do that part. There was still some grease left so I think I am OK. When mine snapped in place it was much more subtle, but I think it is secure. Also, I have a role bar that prevented some of the trim from comming out, but I got it loose enough to do what whas needed. Thank you, again.
I am happy to hear you got the job done and that I was able to help. It makes my day to get comments like this so thank you!
excellent video. just the right amount of detailed and covered every aspect of the work, though maybe re-aasembly of the trim, since there are key things to line up and snap in. trim removal/installation always gives me the heebie jeebies, worrying about breaking something.
Thank you. I really appreciate it. The only feedback I got was to take it slow on removing it. Some people do it by hand since using zip ties can break the tabs if you close them too much.
hello nice video ,
Did you feel any difference by changing thoses filters ?
I DO NOT recommend any type of oiled air filter for any car!
These do not filter as well as a simple paper filter, they cost more, and the purported horsepower increase? Negligible.
Stick with the stock filter; Oiled filters such as K&N have been known to destroy wire-type MAF sensors by coating the sense wires with oil, which burns during the shutdown burnoff cycle and eventually causes them to break.
Great video!
Thanks for your insight. :) Good info.
How many miles in the car when you changed the filters? It looked pretty clean.
They only had 1K miles on them.
Dang, the Porsche engineers should have worked on some way to make that easier to accomplish. Good info to share, tho.
I think they do it on purpose lol
You said that on GT cars the BMC filter are standard, but you're swapping BMC filters into a GT4 that has paper filters.
I put the paper filter in to test it. But the GT4 might come with paper filters but the GT3 and GT2 come with BMC filters standard.
@@DriversTherapy I see. Caymans are always getting short straw! Lol. Thanks for the reply.
@@jasonbarnett1256 I thought the same thing but I’m just happy they offer it for fur GT4s.
what is the part number for the new filters
I put a link in the description.
I recently bought this GT4, great to see how to install those filters!
@@tomm5480 wow! So cool and small world.
Dumb question, not a car guy.
What is the reason to change the air filter after it is old?
Apart grom the obious not to over heat the engine is there any other benefits?
The air filter protects the engine because air goes inside the combustion chamber aka the engine cylinders. If they air has dirt and other contaminates, then it will get into the oil and the metal components get can damaged.
Great video thanks. I use a K&N filter but I think will try the BMC or at least I know know how to service and clean properly.
Thanks! I like K&N too. I went with BMC because the GT3RS comes with them from the factory. I thought that was pretty cool. I went for a drive today after install and I think I hear a small amount more of induction but it’s minimal.
A few tips: 1. It's a pain in the ass because of all the interior trim. 2. I bought some extra cone and I used silicon to glue them to trim piece. Made the whole process easier. 3. There's also a few metal trim piece, do not lose them. 4. Porsche engineers were on LSD when they designed that SHIT.
Those are some good tips! Thanks for sharing.
I hate the sound of cheap plastic
@@louisstagg8847 me too.
Great video. Do the BMC filters enhance intake sound over the stock filters?
Thanks! They do, not a lot but enough if you pay attention. The exhaust on the 981 is so loud that it takes over.
At 8:52 the inscription Kontrollierte Qualität on that tube only means controlled quality and isn't a brand or description at all ;-). Great video by the way!
Ha! I did not know that. Thanks. That is some fun info. Also, thank you for checking out the channel.
Almost as fun as changing the air filter on my Panamera. Boy they make it hard.
They sure do!
Hi do you know where we can find a recommended service schedule on when items need changing
It depends on your particular driving conditions.
@@DriversTherapy thanks, there are things that you need to change regardless after x amount of time though right?
@@koruki yes and no. If you live in a dusty environment or you track the car for example, the service interval would be way more frequent. If you drive it and feel you drive it spirited with no real weather factors, I would look at it every 5,000 miles at a minimum.
@@DriversTherapy great point, I was asking for general service like how often to change spark plugs, brake fluid, pollen filters. I recently had a lot of those done at Porsche dealership but just wondering what schedule they are following.
@@koruki in every car there is a service schedule. The GT4 is not exception. You should be able to find it online if you don’t have a copy of it with your car. I recommend doing that oil every 3K. The spark plugs every 25-30k. Air filter about 5-10k depending on environment.
Awesome tutorial!
Did you mention that the GT4 comes with those filters as standard anyway?
The GT3RS does. I do not think the GT4 does.
I heard you say that too which was why I was searching the comments. I’m glad you asked for clarification. I’m just over 4,000 miles on my GT4. That will be a fun winter project for me this year.
Nice! Hope you are enjoying your GT4.
Thank you for this video. Definitely more involved than my Honda :).
Right! A lot to do for replacing and air filter but the second time it was way faster.
Been watching videos on GT4 maintenance since I’m considering replacing my NA1 with one, but man everything is so much more complicated lol 😅
It definitely is but worth it if it’s your only car. My issue was I was having to deal with that plus 3 more cars. It’s a very reliable car but the wear and tear stuff is not straight forward.
My dealer said the part for the cone piece was for a metal clip?? I lost 3. 😂
Thanks for a detailed videos but reassembling would have been helpful to. 👍
On no! You lost three while uninstalling the trim parts?
That looked very doable!
It is! 😀
watching this has made me reconsider buying one of these....ffs what the hell
They are amazing cars and the air filter is stupid to replace but you understand it once you do it once and it is way easier the next time.
Hi there. Did you feel an increase of power ?
Butt dyno kinda but the sound. Do it.
Thank you for sharing the part number to the Kluber Syntheso Glep Grease.
No problem!
Great Vid big help thanks man best I watched for installing these filters
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching.
Hows the sound?
A light tiny bit of induction noise. Almost indistinguishable from the OEM one but I feel it breathes better. A little smoother in the top end. I’m in altitude so I am sure it helped some.
Thanks very much for your video. Nicely done sir!
Thank you! I appreciate that very much.
The part number for the plastic caps is not correct
What plastic cap?
@@DriversTherapy The little cone shaped covers for the locator tabs. Great video by the way.
@@herbjacobson6912 thanks. Did you get the right part number? Maybe they changed it.
Are these oiled up and cleanable like the K&N’s ?
Yes
@@DriversTherapy thanks ! One last question. Do they come pre oiled or do you need to buy the oil and cleaner a separately ? Thanks
They come oiled but you have to buy the oil stuff separately.
Très bonne vidéo
Merci!
Cable ties were a stupid idea, caused me to snap one of the tabs off my intake adaptor. Fingers are much easier - thanks for costing me $92
Hey man, sorry to hear that. I’ve never had any issues but I believe you. What can I do to help. I can cover some of your cost if that helps out.
