This was my video shot in 1997 on SVHS. I was concerned about water damage to the camera which you can see during the video. I wanted the ride recorded so much that I took the chance this one time and luckily the ride worked flawlessly. I remember these days so well. This ride was the awesome attraction if it's time.
This is kind of sad to watch, you'd think with almost two decades worth of technology the ride would only look better now, not worse. The snappiness of the movements on those spitting dinos was incredible, the truck actually fell AND it fell at a believable speed, and the tongue action on that t-rex was really lifelike! Until this video, I'd always assumed the clunky movements of the ride's dinos were a product of its time, clearly they're a product of neglect. :(
Jocelyn's Legos It now happens very rarely especially by the time after the refurbishment. I had an annual pass and I've seen the Ford Explorer dropping down and it falls slowly that it did not make a huge splash down at the guests.

The 2016 refurb made the animatronics somewhat better than they've been the last couple years. Hell, they finally got the falling Jeep working again, and a couple dinosaurs have brand new skins, so how's as good a time as any to go.
Meh, Disneyland has had this dilemma since they opened in 1955 with the Jungle Cruise, and they're pretty cheap when it comes to maintainence, and although the animatronics in this attraction are far more sophisticated, that's why we pay good money for the pass!
I honestly think with a ride like this there probably needs to be the understanding that the ride is never completely finished. Well, they are nearly 25 years old. Universal doesn't have the time to fix them up because they already have to film movies and don't have the downtime.
Part of the problem is that they got rid of the fog that's meant to hide all that. I don't understand why, to my knowledge fog is cheap as hell to produce.
Yep. Honestly my opinion is that putting the T-Rex in front of the water was a stupid decision being as water and animatronics didn't mix back then, I don't know about nowadays just yet. What they could've done is hide the T-Rex in the shadow before the lights turn on and point to her, just like they did in the Japan version. Now THAT was a smart idea. Dude! I miss this ride so much! Even though it's still at the park, it's just been turned into the Jurassic World ride, I miss the original version so much!
Wow, the animatronics during this time was fantastic. The movements are very snappy. I'm still impressed watching it in 2015. I hope the refurbishments will make it close to the same during this decade. Universal is too focused on Harry Potter.
This is such an incredible little bit of history, thank you for sharing. What I would do to go back when this ride first opened to see it in it's full glory.
Watching this brings tears to my eyes. This is how the ride was always supposed to be. It’s saddening to know that I never got to see the ride in it’s prime though I’m happy to have experienced the Orlando attraction a few hundred times growing up in Orlando
I swear to God if Orlando gets rid of the original Jurassic Park ride I will cry, Universal should leave at least SOME classic attractions. Jurassic Park is timeless.
In 1998 my family and I went to Universal Studios Hollywood and my dad and I got to go on the original JP ride! Also went on the Back to the Future ride and saw the Terminator 3D. I consider myself extremely blessed.
Ive never been on this ride, ive never even been to the usa 😅 but i am so grateful for this recording; its like i can have a mini experience and it was great! Grts from Belgium! 🦖
This video compared to the actual ride that I've been on recently: -Animatronic dinosaurs didn't look very stiff -the "spitting" dinos were faster and smoother - The Raptors were very "realistic' looking (the skin on them looked scalier) -The T-rex head was actually bit LOWER than today -Fog effects were there -There was dramactic music before the drop -The main T-rex had an awesome skin design The ride today, doesn't quite have any of this listed anymore. What happened universal?
Yes, putting the T-Rex behind all the water (waterfall AND fog) was a bad idea. They could still hang the T-Rex but what they could've done was exactly what the people in Japan did in their version, which was hide the T-Rex behind the shadow, seconds before the lights turn on and point at it. That was a very smart idea.
999haunted you forget rules changed. Lots of the stuff was deemed unsafe or a risk, so they had to use limiters. And of course the animatronics were the same, without replacing the entire frame, they don’t last long, especially exposed as these were to water and weather.
And with the opening of the much awaited Jurassic World ride, I despair that we'll never get to experience what an incredible original this was. Thank God for the video evidence :')
All of the timing and animatronic movements were so spot-on and spectacular! I never have seen this ride like this before since I first rode it back around 2004. I wish it could still be like that, but now even the spitting dinos don't even pop up - they just stand and spit slow streams while the car "falls" slower than gravity.
The original end drop was an exercise in epic timing! The waterfall, the slight rise as the water stops, t-rex coming at you with his loud scream, and as your attention is on t-rex, the drop...perfect! 👍🏻
dude, this is way better than the upgrade they have now. Can't believe they went backwards with technology. What the hell happened to spared no expense!!!
I remember riding this back in like 2010 and the animatronics were still doing great despite the ride being a bit over a decade old at that time. I recently saw a pov video of the ride now in 2024 and it’s so sad to see that the ride needs such a massive overhaul
This ride is a far cry from its glory days. In 2003 I had my first Islands of Adventure trip; Spider-Man and Jurassic Park were immediate rides. The crew don't even try to hide mama Rex anymore, you see her from like 30 feet before you drop. I remember being 9 and crapping myself on the final drop.
Well it falls right next to people so they can’t get any of the guests on the ride injured. The one in Universal Orlando Resort also used to have a falling Jurassic Park Ford Explorer but then it was replaced with a crate which is like supposed to have a Velociraptor inside it, so the crate shakes and then it falls until it’s like two inches above the people’s heads
I wish the ride was still like this, they made it so good that the riders came out looking actually terrified, and that's the good thing and showed that it was successful. The one that just opened you can see all the fake and chunky movements of the animatronics and its not scary. When thar car fell in this one, it almost fell on top of them which was so awesome.if I wanted to go on this ride I want to go on this version
Everyone here in this video looks retro and has out of date technology but they look like they had loads of fun and the ride looked amazing I'd trade all of this I have now to go back and experience this
It's kinda sad that these Dinosaurs are getting so old that it's hard for them to move as they use to back in the 90s. What Universal should have done is fixed up the same dinosaurs to move as they did back then and maybe put in 1 or 2 new ones. This also could have matched up with the release of Jurassic World, but sadly no. Universal doesn't care about authenticity anymore It's all about the money. Anyway's even if the ride is getting a bit old I still think it's the best ride out there.
Noah Secades I remember I was 6 I was her I was really excited to go they looked so realistic I got scared, now that I came back they look like old robots
Too bad, seems like Jurassic is starting to rust away, hopefully a refurbishment will happen sooner or later cause Universal is in the process of refurbishing some of their old attractions and is currently working on Water World, maybe Jurassic will be next?
Apparently, Universal Studios refurbished Jurassic Park the Ride back in Early Winter of 2016 but only added a fog machine to the opening scene, this proves that Universal Studios still doesn't care about how this attraction is gonna survive or it's affect on future generations to come, they need to actually give a shit and go in there and fix this mess of a ride before it's popularity decreases to a point where they will be forced to close it down in replacing some stupid ride like Despicable Me. Jurassic has so much potential
I think it's obvious to say that the fluid movements from the ride before has rusted up in such a short amount of time. What went from counting the different types of dinosaurs, my brother and I now count how many times the dinosaurs movements are delayed and if they're even able to blink. Hopefully the "refurbishment" does this ride justice.
There was supposed to be a Jurassic Park themed park in Texas that was going to be built in the early 2000’s but after 9/11 happened some of the inverters actually died from the attack, after that the rest of the investors pulled out and the park was canceled.
I think lots of people are completely forgetting that the one in Universal Orlando Resort is still themed to Jurassic Park. The only things there that are Jurassic World themed are the Raptor Encounter and the Velocicoaster
Watching videos like this make me happy. This truly feels like some time capsule! Seeing how the riders react to these amazing animatronics is absolute priceless. You can feel the vibe from back then. Humans can sometimes be really cute, especially when they are having fun or share an experience with some strangers. The little conversations and jokes on this particular ride make this video so very good.

The 90s=fun. Thanks for sharing it's always refreshing to look back on old stuff like this and see ppl having fun in the same park.
Wow. The T-Rex at the end looked so much better than it did now. It had sparks at it's feet. The movement was far smoother and more real. The skin color makes it look even more real. They need to fix this! InsideUniversal
I shall take that as a challenge and when I'm older I will go to universal and fix all these animatronics
PartySlime76 you know the answer. No. Man I made that comment when I was ambitious in High School. But then 11th grade came in and now I hate everything.
@@issacflores2010how did everything turn out? Well I hope.
Omg this ride will forever b better than the new modern version, omg the small details with shvgcream more terrifying
They really spared no expense for this ride
Dude! I miss this ride so much! Even though it's still at the park, it's just been turned into the Jurassic World ride, I miss the original version so much!
That one sitting in front of the camera had a wonderful mullet!
I thought the exact same thing hahaha... 90s at their best XD
that mullet was DOPE
Truly a Classic Legendary Masterpiece. RIP My Favorite Nostalgic Ride.
Wow, the animatronics during this time was fantastic. The movements are very snappy. I'm still impressed watching it in 2015. I hope the refurbishments will make it close to the same during this decade. Universal is too focused on Harry Potter.
+gissneric i KNOW
+gissneric It didn't. All they did was replace the skins. Heck, even the falling Ford doesn't work again
+Carlos Vazquez I did expect over the summer that they would fix the ride because of the release of Jurassic World but... Noting happened.
gissneric well I like hp ride better than Jurassic but Jurassic is my second fave
nope just saw it this year.. even after the refurbished its still slow and unrealistic as ever.. maybe they just dont care much about it anymore..
Tears? It’s just a ride ain’t that deep
@toriwilson1049
It's called nostalgia memories. Never had any?
These dinos movements were more realistic to the ones today! What happened??
Universal stopped giving a shit, and didn't bother to fix or update the dinosaurs
It's till fun lol I giggle all the time for every little drop and squirts of water
+Volacious I would agree with you, but I think they've been SO focused on new attractions
Tiny McPoop they don't run off of gears. They are pneumatic robots.
Water happened
Wow this ride was awesome back in the day I love how they used steam to create the atmosphere.
Watching this in 2021 bringing back so many memories
I swear to God if Orlando gets rid of the original Jurassic Park ride I will cry, Universal should leave at least SOME classic attractions. Jurassic Park is timeless.
I wish it still was as cool as it was back in the 90s
The dino jumpscares after the jeep was amazing 👌🏻👌🏻
Stuff like this makes me wish I was alive in the 90's.
I was a small kid during this time period but I remember a good number of things that make me wish I had been born in the 70s or 80s instead.
I’m so glad I got to experience this version of the Jurassic ride 😫
My dad doesn't like this ride lol he went on it when he was 10 years old and he said that the drop feels so nasty and still scared of it now lol
This is sooooooo much better than Jurassic World! Sad..
This aged poorly
The Indominus Animatronics Are Phenomenal!
This video compared to the actual ride that I've been on recently:
-Animatronic dinosaurs didn't look very stiff
-the "spitting" dinos were faster and smoother
- The Raptors were very "realistic' looking (the skin on them looked scalier)
-The T-rex head was actually bit LOWER than today
-Fog effects were there
-There was dramactic music before the drop
-The main T-rex had an awesome skin design
The ride today, doesn't quite have any of this listed anymore. What happened universal?
999haunted The water got to the animatronics fast and they didnt want to put the money into constantly making them look their best
Needless to say, time hasn't been kind to this ride.
This is so much better then Jurassic world
And with the opening of the much awaited Jurassic World ride, I despair that we'll never get to experience what an incredible original this was. Thank God for the video evidence :')
Amen to that
It’s still on orlando
@@acowwithlegs really with no up grades
Go To Orlando that one hasn’t changed yet
@@retrob9346 Jurassic World
Legends says the guy at the end is still in awe
All of the timing and animatronic movements were so spot-on and spectacular! I never have seen this ride like this before since I first rode it back around 2004. I wish it could still be like that, but now even the spitting dinos don't even pop up - they just stand and spit slow streams while the car "falls" slower than gravity.
No lie that this is the best drop sequence in any ride with the HUGE t-rex animatronic towering over u through the waterfall
The original end drop was an exercise in epic timing! The waterfall, the slight rise as the water stops, t-rex coming at you with his loud scream, and as your attention is on t-rex, the drop...perfect! 👍🏻
The drop is 84 feet.
dude, this is way better than the upgrade they have now. Can't believe they went backwards with technology. What the hell happened to spared no expense!!!
So glad i was able to experience this ride before it closed down.
I love Jurassic Park.
I remember riding this as a kid, right around 1997 as well. Thanks for letting me re-live that experience with this upload!
6:06 me when I realize this ride is better in 1997 than it is 2021
I remember riding this back in like 2010 and the animatronics were still doing great despite the ride being a bit over a decade old at that time. I recently saw a pov video of the ride now in 2024 and it’s so sad to see that the ride needs such a massive overhaul
5:28 Jurassic Park Man: IF YOU CAN HEAR MY VOICE GET OUT OF THERE! IT'S IN THE BUILDING! IT'S IN THE BUILDING!
S tier voice acting
Just watching this was so fun and I felt scared. I loved it
With the new ride overtaking this one, it’s a huge difference. I would still prefer this over the new ride.
The falling car moves so slow now.
Kram Sacul If even at all
Kram Sacul it doesent even move now
It’s gone now lmao
Before watching: I bet it's not as AMAZING as everyone says, its just nostalgia...
After watching: that was AMAZING, CAN WE PLEASE GO BACK
That Mickey cap @ 3:43 was there when I rode this before it closed for remodeling!! ALL THOSE YEARS
Everyone here in this video looks retro and has out of date technology but they look like they had loads of fun and the ride looked amazing I'd trade all of this I have now to go back and experience this
Going here as a kid in the 90s is part of the things I miss about the old world 😢
It's kinda sad that these Dinosaurs are getting so old that it's hard for them to move as they use to back in the 90s.
Noah Secades hopefully
Apparently, Universal Studios refurbished Jurassic Park the Ride back in Early Winter of 2016 but only added a fog machine to the opening scene, this proves that Universal Studios still doesn't care about how this attraction is gonna survive or it's affect on future generations to come, they need to actually give a shit and go in there and fix this mess of a ride before it's popularity decreases to a point where they will be forced to close it down in replacing some stupid ride like Despicable Me. Jurassic has so much potential
they are making a jurassic world ride now but idk if its in florida too but ik its gonna be in hollywood
Man the way the explorer falls, almost landing on the boat. So awesome! I wish the Orlando ride had had that.
Itstephaniie It didn't.
It didn't! Closed for refurbishment opens with newly painted tracks and I think nothing else. How embarrassing
Also I think water could create rust on the inside of the animatronics
I was fortunate to see this version and the new version, to be perfectly honest the old version was way better.
There was supposed to be a Jurassic Park themed park in Texas that was going to be built in the early 2000’s but after 9/11 happened some of the inverters actually died from the attack, after that the rest of the investors pulled out and the park was canceled.
I rode this right after it opened, greatest ride ever
Man, imagine watching the movie and taking the ride afterwards, or vice versa.
That feeling must have been magical.
Oh it sure was! SO MUCH FUN!! Just THE BEST.
I love how in awe these people are of this amazing technology.
Anyone else here after watching Jurassic word Ride 2019? You’ll be missed Jurassic park :(
vKryptozz me
Jurassic world is garbage never should of changed it 🤦♂️
I think lots of people are completely forgetting that the one in Universal Orlando Resort is still themed to Jurassic Park. The only things there that are Jurassic World themed are the Raptor Encounter and the Velocicoaster
@@Leo-no7zi yes
They actually updated the Jurassic World ride not too long ago.
This is my favorite Universal Studios ride/attraction.
Ahhh yes the 90s, short khaki shorts over sized golf shirt with white high top socks and sandals.....oh and dont forget the old navy fleeces...
That looks absolutely terrifying.... LOVE IT!
I miss the car drop and the animatronics look realistic here. Universal needs to fix that.
I went onto Jurassic Park back in Monday, September 10, 2018
Ahhh 90s early 2000s when universal studios was fun!
The neglect this poor ride has been through is unforgivable.
