I just realized where Cheap Trick got their sound. The Bass player is Steve he sings a lot of the memorable parts of songs and I think he is the lead singer later on with songs like Love is like Oxygen.
I'm 62 and I bought this when it was released. A brilliant band. I grew up with the best music. T-rex, Slade, etc. That's why I have the best taste in music of anyone I know. Ha!. Live it. Peace out.😂
Oh my god…can’t wait till you get to “Little Willy” and “Ballroom Blitz”! You will literally be bouncing off the walls! Hurry! Please HURRY! Now that you’ve jogged my memory with these 50+ year old treasures, I’m gonna have to find a fix to tide me over. Thanks for the memories…let’s make more!
I’m in Australia & I was 10 when this was number 1 for 5 weeks. Andy is the only surviving original member. You need to listen to other Sweet songs - they were the best ❤️🇦🇺
All 4 members could do lead vocals and they all did harmonies. Bass player Steve Priest took over lead vocals after Brian Connolly left although they remained a 3 piece band. Guitarist Andy Scott released a number of solo singles. Drummer Mick Tucker did lead vocals on one track only when they were 3 piece. Most fun track Ballroom Blitz. Best Classy track - the extended version of Love Is Like Oxygen, Best live track - Hellraiser Live 1973. Awesome vocals - Lies in Your Eyes. Toughest Hit - Action. Or Turn It Down. Most metal type album Sweet Fanny Adams. Best covers - Peppermint Twist pr My Generation. Mind blowing drum solo - Man With The Golden Arm. Sooooooo many great tracks.
All of these...PLUS, "Action"; Def Leppard even did a cover! Additional props to, "Hell Raiser", "Man from Mecca", "I Wanna Be Committed", "Teenage Rampage", "Peppermint Twist", "Anthem No. I (Lady of the Lake)", "Fountain" and "The Man With The Golden Arm" & "No You Don't" both Live at Musikladen 1974...it showcases Mick Tucker on the drums with Andy Scott briefly on the vocals and Bassist Steve Priest bangin' co-vocals on 2nd song!🤘🏻
Yowzza yowzza yowzza, the last night Stardust roller rink was open it was an all night skate until 9:00 am,there was an older male & a younger female who said the same thing at different times " I know & remember you!!" Say What?!!! It was 12 years later, anyways,Ballroom Blitz was " All Male Skate,in the reverse direction" if you a Roller Baller you know what I mean
🇬🇧 Loved this band back in the 70s & early 80's, they had quite a few hits too. "little Willy" "Love Is Like Oxygen" "Ballroom Blitz" "Wigwam Bam", & my favourite "Blockbuster" ❤🎶❤️🫂🇬🇧
Well, you're in for it now! People who love Sweet LOVE Sweet!! You're about to be inundated with more requests and suggestions than you know what to do with. Sweet never had a chorus that didn't get stuck in your head forever! My favorite is The Six-Teens (so melodic!). Throughout the 70s, 80s, and into the 90s, you wouldn't be in a bar or club that played Little Willie without the entire crowd banging three times on their tables during the chorus. And you absolutely, positively, need to hear Ballroom Blitz! A.C.D.C. is insanely infectious although, FYI, it's blatantly bi-risque, as the title suggests. Either way, $10 says you're going to be buying the album Desolation Boulevard before the week is out! Lisa 💖🎸
Wow, I'm back in high school! I used to play this over and over. My parents must of been very happy I had headphones. This is why I love your channel. You don't hear these songs anymore unless you dig out the LPs. You and your subscribers bring these gems out of hibernation. Love your reactions to the music I used to enjoy. Thank you.
Sweet rocks. They have a bunch of great catchy tunes, be it the hits and the overall discography. Action, AC/DC, Teenage Rampage are all and just a couple of bangers. They also had “bubblegum” considered songs. Little Willy, Alexander Graham Bell, and Wig Wham Bam, are all fun songs. Definitely dive deeper into them.
Please go down their rabbit hole. Action, Blockbuster, No You Dont, Man With The Golden Arm, and many others. Try to find the videos at Musikladen, they are the best! Thank you for reacting to this great band!
When I was a kid, Little Willy was my favorite song. Insanely catchy; that bubblegum hook was stuck in my head for YEARS. Ballroom Blitz was a a cool song when I was turning into a teen, and when I went to college, Love Is Like Oxygen was one of the most interesting songs on the radio. It was years later that I discovered that these songs were from one group. If, as you read, these guys have a dozen more songs worthy of being on a greatest-hits album... listening to this should be a priority. These guys make quality fun music. I'd like to learn more.
I was around 14 or 15 when this was released, and I became an I instant fan of "The Sweet." Apart from the catchy tunes, the drummer had a cool trick of spinning the drum sticks between his fingers while playing. And as a teenager, I thought that was really cool.
In the last years that Sweet was still a band. Brian (the lead singer ) left the band and Steve Priest ( the bass player doing back up vocal) did actually take over lead vocals for the band in Brian's absence.
That's Steve Priest singing that part you like, also playing bass. Brian Connolly on lead, and lead guitarist and the high backup vocals are by Andy Scott, who is the only remaining living member of the band. Mick Tucker, just an awesome drummer...Try Wig Wam Bam, or Ballroom Blitz next. Then there is Little Willy or Love is Like Oxygen......so influential was this band, hear a little Queen in there? Sweet did it first. The beginning of heavy metal leads back to this band...
Sweet have been my favourite band for over 50 years, more than three quarters of my life, so I love watching these reaction videos by relative youngsters who are hearing them for the very first time and are getting blown away by them. It's nice to know my taste in music is vindicated so enthusiastically. 😁👍
This always puts a smile on my face. They were damn good in concert. The album(long) version of Love is like Oxygen is my favorite. I saw them open for Cheap Trick 1978 I believe
13 hit wonders. So under rated. Suggest you check out a few more clips. They charted and toured the USA. The single version is different to the original album version.
I saw them in the mid 70s. They were an extremely loud band! My ears rang for three days. I know it wasn't from the headliner Eric Carmen. By the way, back in the day, a really cute person was a fox. A REALLY cute person was a stone-cold fox.
After all these years I still remember all the words. Used to have long hair up to '74 [when this came out] as was all the rage [at 13]. Then a couple years later came Punk and I switched to that music. Those where the days, the best times in music 60-90's [50's were ok too but was not around then lol but heard it later from my parents] unlike todays fake easy forgotten music!
Sweet is one of those bands that you sort of forget about until you hear one of their songs again. Then, you wonder how the heck you ever forgot them! I graduated high school in 1976 and I loved this music. Still do.
Soundtrack of my youth. You have to go down the Sweet rabbit hole, they have some great songs. Wig Wam Bam, Little Willy, Blockbuster, Love is Like Oxygen. Glam rock at its best.
Steve Priest (bassist and guy who sings the backup line "Foxy on the run"), actually DID take over as lead singer in a bunch of concerts just before the band with the lineup here ended, because Brian's ever-worsening alcoholism prevented him from performing at times.
This song was on the first ever various artists compilation cassette I bought here in Australia in 1975. British Jigsaw - Skyhigh AC/DC- High Voltage Suzi Quatro- Michael Stevie Wright- Black Eyed Bruiser Bay City Rollers- Give A Little Love Peter Shelley- Love Me, Love My Dog Jessi Colter- I'm Not Lisa Austin Roberts- Rocky Roger Whittaker- The Last Farewell Pilot- It's Magic Glen Campbell- Rhinestone Cowboy Little River Band- Curiosity (Killed The Cat) Gilbert Becaud*- The Importance Of Your Love The Glitter Band- The Tears I Cried John Paul Young- The Love Game Adrian Baker And The Tonics - Sherry Bimbo Jet- El Bimbo
I agree with pretty much every comment, just one other song I haven’t seen suggested is called “ Action. “. Most people will remember it once they hear it. 👍
Such a fun song! Brings me back to memories of blasting the radio in my Mustang back in the day. If you get a chance, take a listen to Sweet's hit "Love Is Like Oxygen" (the 6-minute, 45-minute extended album-length version with the instrumental section in the middle, not the shorter 3-minute 45-second radio-edit version). It is sooooooo awesome and trippy and fun! You will also like their hit "Ballroom Blitz."
Great band. listen to them always in early 70's. Other great songs: The Six Teens, Action, Set me free, Burn on the Flame, but most are asm. BTW I really enjoy your ABBA vidz as well.
0ne of the first records I ever bought as a kid! It was a back-to-back Capitol Records hits re-issue with "Ballroom Blitz" on the flip! Please do "Blitz" along with the album version of "Love is Like Oxygen" soon!
Great band, gotta hear Ballroom Blitz and Love is Like Oxygen as well!
Agreed. For Love is Like Oxygen, make sure it's the album version. ua-cam.com/video/oc1sgCT7X2c/v-deo.htmlsi=SbLkrIRqSmnsMVNm
"Love Is Like Oxygen" was a deejay's delight, as it was long enough to allow for a break.
Yes,yes. The long version of "Love is Like Oxygen" "Ballroom Blitz" is a must listen
"Cockroach". You crawl into my bed like a cockroach. You beeatch... lol
Gotta throw in Little Willy while your at it.
Ballroom Blitz is a must!!!
It's the total glam rock experience!!!!
Ballroom Blitz is sooooo high school for me! Love them!
Sweet - Ballroom Blitz - Teenage Rampage - Block Buster - Love is like Oxygen
Steve Preist - Bass and backing vocals and mega style genius
The smile on my face when I saw you were reacting to this! So good!
Yeah! 'Ballroom Blitz', cannot wait for the day you do that. Everything they did was fun, you're going to love them.✌❤
I just realized where Cheap Trick got their sound. The Bass player is Steve he sings a lot of the memorable parts of songs and I think he is the lead singer later on with songs like Love is like Oxygen.

Want to bet on that,I'm 67 and seen them all live for 2 pounds a ticket.Fortunr then dream on,beat that lol.
LITTLE WILLY, LOVE IS LIKE OXYGEN, and BALLROOM BLITZ
My favorite band since childhood.....viva la Sweet 🎤🎸🎸🥁
The album version of “Love is like oxygen” is amazing a lot of talent in this group.
Sweet is seriously underrated. Steves backing vocals really made the song. RIP Steve Priest
PS every member of the band can actually sing.

You didn't want it to end...Imagine going all night dancing to the music of this era like we oldies did❤

The drumming was killer
Mick Tucker was a drumming beast !!! 🥁
@@brandonio_granger❤
Sweet were a major influence on the metal of the ‘80’s, dig a bit deeper into the catalog and you will see why so many sited them as influences
I didn't know that thank you 😮
Wow, I'm back in high school! I used to play this over and over. My parents must of been very happy I had headphones.

The best Glam rock band ever and great musicians and singers too
A lot of girls dreamed of having hair that lush!
Criminally underrated. I'm not their biggest fan, but I've loved every song I've heard.
I haven’t heard that in so long! A lot of fun. I was just a little kid in primary school in Australia but I do remember it, singing along.
Action is my all time fav Sweet song .Fab band and music
I had a kiss on the cheek from Brian when they stayed at a hotel my mother was working in. I was just a kid, but remember it well!
Sadly, I believe the only surviving member is lead guitarist Andy Scott. The Sweet were the very definition of 'Glam Rock'....Totally Fabulous.
And he is still touring, keeping the music alive.
SWEET! Gotta hear some Hell Raiser and Ballroom Blitz. Super, super band back in the day.
I was around 14 or 15 when this was released, and I became an I instant fan of "The Sweet." Apart from the catchy tunes, the drummer had a cool trick of spinning the drum sticks between his fingers while playing. And as a teenager, I thought that was really cool.
such a fun song & band ! ♥
In the last years that Sweet was still a band. Brian (the lead singer ) left the band and Steve Priest ( the bass player doing back up vocal) did actually take over lead vocals for the band in Brian's absence.
I was 9 years old when this dropped in 1974 and I loved this song! It had tons of airplay and I loved to sing along to it while roller skating! LOL...
❤SWEET!!! -Ballroom Blitz -Little Willy -Hell Raiser -Love is Like Oxygen
Everyone in this band had an exceptional singing voice. The high pitched voice you can hear is the grumpy looking lead guitarist.
Dude. They’re so good! Keep going!!

Great band - one of my favorites! My fav non-single of theirs is: Solid Gold Brass. It goes from rock, to jazz, & back to rock. ❤
One of my all time favorite songs from the 70's. Used to blast this while driving down the road. Great memories!❤
This always puts a smile on my face. They were damn good in concert. The album(long) version of Love is like Oxygen is my favorite. I saw them open for Cheap Trick 1978 I believe

Power pop at its finest! A real gem.

Love Is Like Oxygen, Little Willy, Action, Ballroom Blitz!
Now the chorus is stuck in my head, just like it was 49 years ago.
After all these years I still remember all the words.
Used to have long hair up to '74 [when this came out] as was all the rage [at 13].

Just went to see Sweet in Brisbane Australia last week. Great great show. Had a blast. New album out called Full circle. Great album.
You have to do the long version of Love Is Like Oxygen! It's epic!
I luv Sweet if I want great sound and beat to vibe to.
As a teenager I grew up with the music of sweet and my favourite album is give us a wink and sweet fanny Adams
One of my favorite songs when I was growing up:)

He actually took over when Brian was sacked from the band.
Last surviving original member guitarist Andy Scott is a Wrexham lad ! Up the Town
Great song and a great group.
Was 15 when this came out. Loved Sweet, great songs for the disco!
Great reaction! You have to do "Ballroom Blitz" Silvester Tanzparty 1974! 😃
Little Willy was my first introduction to this band. They have a great sound.
I was 15 and everyone had this on 8-Track. Life was beautiful in the 70's.😁

Amazing harmonies. Sadly a much underrated band at the time.
This song still rocks after all these years!
Sweet had so many great songs
You should do No You Don't, live Musikladen version. This wasn't one of their big hits, but it is IMO one of their best songs. It rocks.
I remember in 1976 instead of our National Anthem they played Fox On The Run at primary school, I thought our school was super cool
Love Sweet. Lots of great songs. The Bassist (Steve), was actually the lead for a while in a later version of the band.
LITTLED WILLY is soooo fun. My fav
Four Top 40 Forty hits in the U.S. and all them made Top 10. All super catchy.
So sad only Andy Scott lead guitar is the only one still alive. This was my youth.
I agree with pretty much every comment, just one other song I haven’t seen suggested is called “ Action. “. Most people will remember it once they hear it. 👍
She was a whaco and followed them to all their shows as the song says it all
Such a great song!!❤❤❤
My fave Sweet song.
I agree with others that Ballroom Blitz, Love Is Like Oxygen and Little Willy are all Sweet must sees!
I Adored this song as a Kid 🙋♀️👊💥🫓
Me too!
In the 70s us Guys Called sexy ladys in the 70s FOXES ,
They had some great bangers!
Such a fun song! Brings me back to memories of blasting the radio in my Mustang back in the day. I loved Brian Connolly. I wanted my bangs to curl down like his hair.. and I loved Steve Priest.🫶🫶🫶✔️🎶🎵
Do next "Love is like oxygen"
In 70s there was no party without Sweet 😆👍👍👍
Great band. listen to them always in early 70's. Other great songs: The Six Teens, Action, Set me free, Burn on the Flame, but most are asm. BTW I really enjoy your ABBA vidz as well.
Flashback tune for sure...thanks 🤘🤘🤘
great reaction love this song my fav sweet song.
New to me group and and song! Loved it! thanks Jenny!!
I forgot all about this song! A lot of great songs in the 70s. I don’t think it was played too much on the radio in So. Cal. Good review SaloG✌🏻
I've always loved this song a d since fix is my name I always took the song to say I was always on the run and I do that emotional
0ne of the first records I ever bought as a kid! It was a back-to-back Capitol Records hits re-issue with "Ballroom Blitz" on the flip! Please do "Blitz" along with the album version of "Love is Like Oxygen" soon!
Takes me straight back to my 7th grade dance. I am 62 now, so you can do the math. The entire night is on flashback.
