"Is the RS model worth the extra $2600 versus the R model?" Yes! Despite the higher price point, it's actually the counter-intuitive 'value' buy. The part content fully justifies it.
The more important question is: will you utilize and 'get' what the RS up-charge buys you?
I went with the 'R' ...a conscious (yet tough) choice, especially since I previously had the '20 'RS.'

Good job of making the crucial point that it is important to buy the bike that suits your actual needs, rather than simply the one which provides the best "numbers". All too often, riders are wooed by marketing and hype into buying something they don't really need, simply because the experts say one is better performing. Everything is relative. Sometimes, the less exotic choice is actually the best one.

The strange thing about the suspension is most reviews I have seen say that the R is better for the road with bad road surfaces etc….
This was due to the plushness of the ride, the handling stability presumably due to the 10mm lower ride height of the rear where as the RS is firmer, quicker to drop in to a corner and therefore better suited to the track.
I’m not sure if that contradicts your thoughts or not and let’s face it both bikes have fully adjustable suspension and different tyres for a start

  • @MCGMB
    @MCGMB 9 місяців тому +3

Kip, I mean Ian, you mentioned the higher quality suspension on the RS. Can you comment on the relative stiffness of the springs and how that affects comfort for daily riding? I mentioned because other reviewers have said the RS suspension is noticeably more firm and might be less friendly to street riding. What are your thoughts?
    Oh, and very good review!

I have a 2022 RS and I put 7000 miles on it, 60% urban 40% canyon/highways. It came with standard damper settings ("road"), and it felt a bit stiff to me because the pavement here is appalling. Then I set the dampers to "comfort" settings (less bump/rebound up front, less rebound at the rear), in the same pavement I got a significant improvement, I´d say it became tolerable for frequent commuting.

So you bought the MT09 SP instead of this. Can you tell us why? (I know you have a 660, is that it?)
Can you tour at all on either? I'm not seeing much/any aftermarket wind protection. Living in rural Oregon my Svartpilen 701 didn't like hwy miles much and wind was an issue for me so that's why I ask.

IMO the RS is worth the cost, it has better suspension, a bit more power, nicer display...
What is needs is both head lights on for hi and low beams, a way to flash the hi beams, some grab handles for the rear, cornering head lights and legible information on the display.
I have a 22 and love the bike, but it seems that some of the cost was for track related features, maybe there should be a Street Triple RR for those looking to do track, and then the RS, for street use.

Great review, thanks. Must be something with US laws that prevents Triumph from giving us the LED turn signals that Europe and the UK get. I believe their profile is too narrow. That really sucks. And don't forget, the much cheaper Trident DOES come with LED signals here. But they are not the same as UK. They are wider.

I don't understand the manufacturers, Triumph included. Fuel injection is pretty much standard on all new model bikes. Cruise control should be included on all of them. What could it cost? $50? Who wouldn't want CC? Once you've ridden a bike w/CC, you never want to ride a bike w/out it.

I own this exact bike right now in this cosmic yellow, I would say if you care about the sitting position, go for the mt9sp would be more up right, the street triple is just a tiny touch more leaned forward. One thing I would say about the mt9 is that the breaks are not the finest, the street triple is definitely better at that part, but you could upgrade the brakes on the mt9 and it’s probably cheaper overall. I was debating between the two but I just can’t get over the looks of the mt9. I would say the street triple is definitely better on track, the mt9 engine is more fun on the road.

The Ohlins and Showa forks are brilliant, the Brembo M50s on mine ('22) and the Stylemas on the version being reviewed can stop the earth, but for me the selling factor was if there was any bike that can be described as telepathic in its handling this is it. It does what I want, when I want it, with as much or as little throttle and lean angle as I'm willing to provide. The handling is without a doubt the best of any bike I have ever ridden and that right there is why it came home.
