I took my 15m cruiser into port de cruas. I was slightly confused by the information in the guide book about the entry. I ended up hitting a submerged wall just outside the port entrance . I wasn't happy about it because the yellow hazard bouys were also submerged.
Hi Raidar, I anm planning a similar trip to the Danube, my bbot is able to make 5,5 to 6 knots over ground. What maximum speed had the currence on the Rhone
Hi Peter. Do not know for sure, but locally some current-issues due to flooding before Gray, and 3-5 kts against in the start leaving Port St Louis, but never problems. Weekends can be best due to reduced power production if river is used for hydropower like in southern France on the Rhone. I know nothing about the Danube. I am sure you will plan and investigate well, just be pro-active and communicate with the river management offices and also the lock-keepers, they are always updated on local conditions. Even barges are important source of information, don't hesitate to make contact with them. The type of boat you have, keel, beam, weight also comes into play. Have your VHF and cell-phone ready (and your anchor). Have a great trip!
I made this trip in the other direction with a 30 ft boat 15 years ago, it was no problem to get the Maas up to the Canal d'lEst. Bur now a have a catalac 9m , a small catamaran and i would like to bring it to my hometown vienna for a refit and the danube up is impossible, the currance is to strong. I have time enough to wait for times with no high water. Thanks for your fast answer Peter
Thank you for another interesting and enjoyable video.

Peter, you get a pretty good picture of the situation before the Gray lock, see episode # 6 - approx. 9 mins into it.
