Nice, informative documentery. Am going up the midi canal next year, in mee little Westerly Cirrus, back to Brexitland. The boat is now in St Madrier, near Toulon, after coming down through the canals from the English Channel four year ago. France is quite simply; perfect. I presume one does refer to going 'up' as going north and 'down' as going south.

I'm English and thinking of buying a boat in Burgundy and doing 6 months on the canals. I have the CEVNI and a VHF radio licence. Do I really need the ICC?

Yes you do...unless you hire a boat then you need nothing.
Yes you need a ICC or permit but you're unlikely to get stopped by the pigs unless you're on the Mediterranean.
