Outstanding videography! I have spent 7 months cruising the canals of France and the UK, and the Nivernais remains my favorite. The first time was a 4-week trip (solo) in 1987 on the western Burgundy loop and the second in 1990 for 5 weeks on the eastern loop. Your boat looks like a retired Locaboat Penichette 1107 like we had. Things were not very crowded back then, and I was able to maintain my position in the lock without lines, just using the throttle. Nice to see the "artisans" are still thriving at the locks near Baye.

Fantastic stuff Stephen.... I agree with the previous comment possibly the BEST French Canal video we have seen. One thing I have to ask when you and your wife were steering and doing the locks who was shooting the video ????. Who ever it was did a great job. very smooth, nice foreground shots and well thought out and well edited. i think I will watch it again in a couple of weeks time. Max from Caloundra Queensland.

Hi Max, I am that guy who did the video. The husband and wife team who owned the boat were Gary and Robyn from Maleny. The boat has since been sold and replaced by a large cabin cruiser based in Tasmania.

Hi Stephen, we have just finished watching your Canal du Nivernais video again, each time we watch it we notice different things we had missed. One question I notice the Lock operator follows your boat through quite a few locks in your journey. Would you normally TIP the operator when he/she has finished your group of locks or is it just their job and they dont expect a TIP ????. Max.

Hi Max, we did not tip them. Most of the operators were uni students getting a fab place to holiday in exchange for the work. Others were there for the lifestyle. :)
