I enjoyed visiting the Irondale Cafe this past Sunday with everyone! The food was very tasty with that southern hospitality feel. Thank you Christy for sharing with us a little history of the cafe and the train station of Irondale. I would give it a big thumbs up and a swirly of the fork!
This looks great! Love fried green tomatoes! I have been to the Whistle Stop Cafe in Juliet, GA. The food is great. You sit on the porch and wait for them to call your name. They have servers. I prefer that to cafeteria style and don’t like the idea of standing in line. I’m 76 so not easy to do for very long.
First off I'm a little older than you and Brooks my favorite game show growing up was Match Game and Fannie Flagg was always on there her books are amazing I think I've read all of them know to the food Christy you know how much I love you and your opinions from the pork chops to the pie everything looked wonderful especially those fried green tomatoes my mom used to make a sweet potato souffle when we were kids and she would put baby marshmallows on top we thought we had died and gone to heaven.Have a great week give Brooks a hug and give one to baby Mo I love you guys ❤️❤❤❤
Oh my gosh this is so cool! I pass by Birmingham on the way to beach every year and this would be an awesome lunch stop. I love that movie so much and had no idea this was there!
I grew up 1 block from the Cafe...the original one and the new one...Miss Bess Fortenberry owned and ran the Cafe...the Fortenberrys were an old time family here in Irondale. I grew up there from the 40s, 50s, 60s until I married... mother lived there until she died in 2004 (Daddy died young in the early 70s) Our family was an old family with roots in this town...my maiden name was Massey...Bess was a beloved character...she was a friend to all...she attended the First Baptist Church with our family and her family home was across from the church...yes, the RR was a big part of our town and I was lulled to sleep each night with the sounds of the trains passing through... Bess was a good friend to the men who worked for the RR and the Cafe was a gathering place for the men with good BBQ and beer!...with all of the home cooking too!...growing up in Irondale was a magical time of innocence with great memories!!!🦋
My wife and I live about 45 minutes from the irondale Café been there many times never left disappointed or hungry. Loves your video. Keep up the great work. God bless.
Glad you liked the Irondale Cafe. I grew up going to the original when I was a little girl because my Aunt Bess owned it. I love that its history is being honored and enjoyed still today. Thank you for this video.
The fried green tomatoes looked amazing!!! I usually like those with a good homemade ranch dressing! I was also shocked because the cream corn is homemade! A lot of restaurants cheat on that.
I buy their fried green tomato batter all the time. We LOVE it. My family loves the battered more than the breaded. I have never used a dipping sauce. Might have to try it sometime. I just sprinkle the tomatoes with salt after they come out of the fryer.
Wow! We live in Oxford which is about 50 miles east of Irondale. I didnt know the story of the cafe. We will have to visit there! Thanks for a great video!
I have never in my lifetime had fried green tomatoes. Never. I didn't even know one could eat green tomatoes!! I loved the retro atmosphere of the Irondale Cafe -- I'd love to go eat there some day, but I've a long way to go to try it out! There's nothing like it in Ottawa, Canada.
Has anybody compared the fried green tomatoes from the Irondale cafe to the movie inspired ones from the Whistle Stop cafe in Juliette, GA? Edited: looks like 200 miles apart.

Meat and 3s are falling to the wayside. Irondale is awesome 😊

Green maters are good anytime 😊
If you make a good meatloaf, could you show us one day how to put it together? I love meatloaf!
