#friedgreentomatoes #happinesstravelz #WHISTLESTOPCAFE
My dad roofed the “Threadgoode” house in Senoia! Also, the scene where Kathy Bates says, “face it girls, I’m older and have more insurance” was filmed is in my hometown of Fayetteville. I used to work at that Winn-Dixie.
That's awesome, I had planned on stopping by the stores used and the retirement home but ran out of time. Maybe next time? Thanks for watching 👍
That is SO cool! That has to be one of the most legendary movie lines of all time!
Thank you for telling us the location of the Winn-Dixie. I have been looking for the filming location of one of my favorite scenes in the movie.
No matter how many times I watch this movie(which is a bunch) I love it even more every time! My grandma and I loved Jessica Tandy!
I have seen it many many times too! Great movie, I was super excited to visit that little town 😀 Thanks for watching 👍
Jessica Tandy's the best
All this time, I thought all these buildings were set built for the movie. So cool that they really exist. Now I want to visit.
It is a great place to visit. I plan on going again next time I'm in the area. Thanks for watching 👍
@@HappinessTravelz me too! My mom would love it. Take a secret trip as a surprise and get pics with her there. That would just blow her mind. I hope she doesn't see this before I get a chance. That would make it that much better.
My Mama grew up in the mill village there and I played many a day with my cousins at Granny and Grandaddy's house in the curve. There's nothing like hearing a screen door slam and sitting on the front porch drinking sweet tea and hearing the train whistle blowing in the distance on it's way thru town. You should have taken a trip thru the village across the river. Some of my family still live there and many are buried in the cemetary on the hill. When I come home to visit and stop to hear the wind thru the trees, I can still hear our laughter of playing outside. We never even wondered if there was anywhere else to live, because we felt it was always home. Thank you for the video. Safe travels to you and your family.
That's awesome! Seems like a great place to live. I definitely want to go back again and explore around more. Thanks for your story and thanks for watching! 😀
Love this. I can only imagine the fond memories ❤️ I love the movie becuz of the town and the era!
Great video ❣️ I always wondered if the town still existed...now that I'm in Tennessee I think I'm gonna take a drive ...loved the editing...Thank you
My daddy was born there in 1919.
Is he/the family the reason the street is named J.H. Aldridge Drive? My Mama lived in the little white house in the curve on the right for many years before moving to take care of family members.
We visited there today! Absolutely loved being there. We travel in our RV full time and visiting film locations is a hobby of ours.
That's awesome. We also try and visit as many filming locations as we can. Thanks for watching 👍
Both sets of my grandparents lived in Juliette so we were there many many times over the years. Mom and Dad met there
and eventually married. Dad's dad was the telegraph operator at the station before he retired. Mom's Dad was the meat cutter in the store (the restaurant) and at the cotton mill across the river. Mom also worked there while she was pregnant with me.
Very cool. Your family must know the owners of the restaurant good. Thanks for sharing that and thanks for watching 👍
What a Nice Tribute to this _WONDERFUL Film !!! As far as the town turning into a 'tourist trap'.... you can't blame them... it's like Gatlinburg, back in the 60's where Family's rented 'Summer Cabins: Bohanan's? hanging over the Little Pigeon River.. right in the heart of downtown.
Enjoyed this tour & now am craving some good ol' BBQ with a side of Fried Green Tomatoes :) *hold the Frank*.
Lol... its a great little town to visit. I want to go back sometime. Thanks for watching 👍
Fried green tomatoes at the whistle stop cafe. Amazing read by Fannie Flagg. 👏🏼
I haven't read the book yet, only read what differences are between the book and movie. I will have to read it soon. Thanks for watching 👍
@@HappinessTravelz The book is pretty awesome, though you get a feeling that she (the author) does not always have a complete grasp of the time lines. This gets a lot worse with the second book The Wonderboy of Whistlestop - the dates do not match up anymore in some cases. Which somewhat kills a good story, unfortunately.
It's one of my favorite books 📚 she's a wonderful author ❤
One of my favorite movies. Such iconic town. Fried Green Tomatoes is a timeless movie. The only reason I would go to Georgia is to go to Juliette and see the town and eat fried green tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe' and get some Georgia peaches. Great video. Thank you soooo much!❤
Thank you! ... It is a awesome little town and the movie is fantastic. I want to visit again . Thanks for watching 👍
You'd never regret the experience. Hope you do it someday. 🥰
I absolutely had to make my way too Juliette Georgia about twelve years ago due to my long love for this movie.
However i did not walk around and explore as much as i would have liked, because i could not tolerate the heat. To be honest i don't understand how people live in that heat. But of course people would come to my Canadian town and wonder how I tolerate the cold.
Anyway...thanks for the video. Fried Green Tomatoes was/is such a special movie.
Thanks for watching! It was great to go there. We went in December and it was cool in morning but muggy in evening. I'd go again of we were in the area again . Great movie. 👍
The actual Whistle Stop Cafe is in Irondale AL, where the location in the story actually was. It was a place and the Bar B Q restaurant was renamed Golden Rule Bar B Q and still exists. It is now in Trussville AL, by the train tracks. I know because I lived there.
That's awesome, I didn't know that. I'll have to check it out sometime. Thanks for watching 👍
The gentleman said that there was a cafe called Mable's Table but he did not want to open his cafe because it would hurt her business, but when Mable's table closed, he went ahead and opened up his cafe. What a heart he has.
Ya he seems like a good guy. I'm happy the place is doing good for him . Thanks for watching 👍
It wasn't Idgie who thought her house had been stolen. It was her sister in law. In the movie she explains how she married into the family.
Ya I realize that now. Great movie though and was so cool to see in person. Thanks for watching 👍
They had to have been the same person....or else, .....how would she be able to call every little detail in the movie!!! This was the obvious,.. give-a-way!! Evelyn was drawn into her story, because Iggy took on a "fake" persona in order to tell the story. But even Evelyn figured it out by the end of the movie. And why would the jar of honey on Ruth's grave be signed "the bee charmer" if not by Iggy??!!
The old lady IS idgie!
The book goes more into that
The investigator was from Georgia, and the movie was supposed to take place in alabama, that's why it was the best damn barbecue in the entire state of Alabama
Oh that's right.. hard to remember everything when your standing there kinda in awe. It's such a cool little town to visit. Thanks for watching 👍
I grew up in Macon, Ga and ate fried green tomatoes way before the movie! But, since Jessica Tandy (and her husband, Hume Cronin) are my two favorites, I watched any movies they made! I still fry green tomatoes, but, it's so hard to get any decent sized tomatoes here in Wyoming!!
Thanks for sharing 👍 I've only had fried green tomatoes that one time from the Whistle Stop Cafe, and they were very good. I'll have to try making them sometime. Thanks for watching 🙂
Well, you’re just gonna have to grow your own!
I'm glad that I came across this video it was interesting ❤ I love the movie I've watched it a thousand times.
It's a great movie 🙂 Thanks for watching 👍
I have eaten fried green tomatoes at the whistle stop cafe! Magic!
Yes they are! Thanks for watching 👍
Delightful little town and yes many of the buildings are little shops. The cafe is still serving some mighty fine fried green tomatoes as well as a mouthwatering apple pie with ice cream.
A great place to visit and wander about in time past.
Yes it's a very cool little town. I will visit again someday. Thanks for watching 👍
I watched this again yesterday. My mom may she RIP loved this movie❤ they will never make movies as great as this.
It's one of May favorites. I haven't found another one like it. Thanks for watching 👍
@@HappinessTravelz Thank u so very much for posting this beautiful nostalgic video. Many Blessings and happiness to you.
🧸🌹❣️❣️❣️
Secrets in the sauce 😂
Yes it is 😉 lol.. Thanks for watching 👍
Jessica tandys character is NOT Idgy! Suggest you read the book and rewatch the film!
In the book they are 2 different people. But in the movie it's not 100% certain. Most believe she is. But it's however you interpret it. Here is a link to read. Thanks for watching 👍
www.the80sgirls.com/80s-movies/are-ninny-and-idgie-the-same-person-in-fried-green-tomatoes
They should have the Theme music as ambient music throughout the Town! LOL How cool, I always wondered about the Main Threadgood house! Seems they found a Gem to make one of my Favorite Movies! The music fits even today!
Yes it's a great movie. Music playing would be cool 🙂. Thanks for watching 👍
I remember my family fried green tomatoes. The taste was a delicacy. Days of my childhood, that I wouldn't forget. 😊
Nice! The only time I have ever had them was at the Whistle Stop Cafe and they were delicious... Thanks for watching 👍
One of my favorite movies!
It's a great movie! Thanks for watching 👍
One of very top favs movies. 💯💯💯
Everyone that knows me know how much I luv this movie....ive got this on VHS & dvd both! ❤
I still remember wen it came out where I watched it at & who I watched the movie with.
Me n my sister watched it at her house n she rented the movie on vhs.
Back then she wldnt rent movies on VHS from blockbuster! 😱
Just beautiful. This reminds me of my daddy and his family. We just lost him the end of 2020. It's a comfort to see such places being cared for and visited.
Sorry for your loss. This is a great little town. Go visit if you ever get the chance. Thanks for watching 👍
Very fun to watch, now I gotta watch the movie again
It's a good movie
Great video and narrations! Loved it! My Grandmother and I loved this movie! I never get tired of watching it! Great friends are everything and the movie shows that on so many levels.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. This is one of my favorite movies too. Spot on with the friends 👍. Feel free to share this video with anyone you think would like it 🙂 Thanks for watching 👍
In the making of FGT, they state the train depot was rebuilt and moved to the film location. According to the video, there were trees growing through it before filming. After, the railroad deemed it an insurance risk and they removed it to preserve it..
Interesting , that may have been what happened. The owners told me it was there before filming and it was fixed up some for the movie . And after the movie it was relocated to where you see it now in my video. It's great that it is still around though. Thanks for watching 👍
The original restaurant from the book was - and still is - in Irondale, Alabama.
That's awesome I'll have to checknit out sometime. Thanks for watching 👍
Not sure if it's true but heard they covered the road in tons of dirt to make it look like an authentic dirt road m
They did! I also heard that and asked Frankie while talking on the porch with him. It's a very cool place. Check it out if your ever in the area. Thanks for watching 😀
So then Jessica played eggie threadgood. Because nothing is ever mentioned about her character.
Well.. thats up for debate lol.. in the book she is definitely not same character but in the movie she just seems to know to much. And at the end with the honey.. Really makes me think it's her. Thanks for watching 👍
I watched FGT many many years ago, probably when it came out.. At the library the other day I saw Fannie Flagg and FGT.. Never knew she was the writer, loved her on tv,wo I picked it up,and took my time reading... I felt like I had stepped back in time as everything in it was pretty close to my own childhood in the deepest part of south Alabama close to the Florida line... This book had me tearing up at Buddies death, laughing out loud at Idgies doings, and crying again when each character passed on... I didn't want it to end,and wished that someone had written a sequel to the earlier years with morw doings and going ons with everyone from FGT... I believe that had Hollyweird stuck closer to the book it'd have been a much better movie, not saying it wasnt a great movie, but maybe just a little bit better.. Thank you Ms Flagg ❤❤ and thank this guy for putting these images with the story I just completed earlier today,Sat,Jan 6th,24..
I haven't read the book yet but plan on it. I've only read the difference between the book and movie. Great movie though. Thanks for watching 👍
My favorite comfort movie. I watch it on UA-cam and even with ALL the ads its stood the test of timw. Im inclined to believe Idgy is Ninny. She knew too much and Sibsy wasnt privy to.
Great movie! And I feel the same way, im thinking that was her too. Thanks for watching 👍
It would be even cooler if it all really happened.
Feels kinda real when your there standing in the town. Cool place! Thanks for watching 👍
The original is in Birmingham Alabama , that the movie is based off of❤️
I Love that movie Freid Green Tomatoes 😊 I like old stuff and that café are Nice. Thanks for this video clip 😊
Your welcome! It's a great little old town. I hope to go back some day. Thanks for watching 👍
Thank you so much for this tour!
Your welcome! Thanks for watching 👍
Awesome video! I just watched the movie again for the first time in quite a few years and come across your video! And let me tell you, you're video was 1 million or 100 billion times better than the first one I came across. It was some SJW giving a lecture on how great BLM is. I was like what the literal F is this woman talking about? The video is supposed to be about filming location. 🤣 thanks for doing a really good filming locations video on this great movie, big thumbs up!
Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it. I really like filming locations and I have more coming soon. Thanks for watching 👍
The movie FRIED GREEN TOMATOES is my favorite movie 🎬 i love this movie 😊 and i have ever since i was 9 years old
Yes it is a great movie.. I was so happy to visit the town. Thanks for watching 👍
I love this movie. I saw it when I was a kid and I was turned into Kathy Bates acting. She does some damn good acting in this movie. Thank you for making this video. I’m 42 myself and so when this movie came out I wanted to see it. Jessica Tandy is in it and I loved anything with her. I think my Aunt had bought the movie on VHS and let me borrow it or we watched it together. It just was written so well. I didn’t realize all the buildings were mostly there still altogether close by. I also love trains and it is right next to train tracks. It looks like they moved the tracks a little. You have a great on camera presence. I really liked your interaction with the old timers. Your wife is a lucky woman lol I wanna know how those fried green tomatoes taste!
Thanks! Yes it's a great movie, one of my favorites! Very cool little town to check out. The fried green tomatoes were delicious 😋 thanks for watching 👍
Big thumbs up on this ..especially the history lesson by the two town patriarchs ..excellent!
Thank you! It was great talking to them, very nice guys and I loved learning some history from them. Thanks for watching 👍
I have had the fried green tomatoes at the resuraunt there. The food is good but not that great. My wife's green tomatoes are so much betterr. We did a video there a few yeras back.
It's a great little town. We likes the fried green tomatoes we had from there. Thanks for watching 👍
My daddy was born and raised there. My Grandparents are buried across the river on Aldridge Road.
It seems like a great little town! Thanks for watching 👍
They may have fed Frank Bennetts body to the pigs, pigs , from what I heard will devour most anything
You never know they could have. I've heard that before too. Thanks for watching 👍
LOVE this movie! It has a very enjoyable "down home,,,back in the day" vibe to it. It does flow well and even with the flash backs, it gets you hooked into watching it all just to see what happens next. I watch it every chance I get. I "have" to get a disc or whatever player so that I can buythe movie and watch it any time.....Thank you for your great video on this!
Glad you liked it. This has been one of my favorite places to visit so far. Thanks for watching 👍
I live an hour away from julliette growing up we would go to lake julliette every summer.
Awesome ! That's a cool little town. I had a great time visiting. Thanks for watching 👍
They got the dates for "stump" wrong. It was 1933 to 1938 I think
Interesting. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching 👍
My algorithm must have put this in my path today! I have always wanted to know if it was a true town or a Hollywood set! Thanks!
Awesome! It's a cool little town. Thanks for watching 👍
I’m planning a trip there soon, was wondering if there any must sees while we’re there? And is it worth the drive to Senoia also bc I’m taking FGT’s #1 fan to visit.
Not sure what else is around there except for the Fried green tomatoes stuff. We enjoyed visiting Senoia as well. Right around the corner from the train tracks and house is Alexadria from the walking dead and some Stranger things locations there too. Thanks for watching 👍
That's not Idgie sitting on the suitcase as you described. Nanny Threadgoode was married to Idgies older brother Cleo. Thought I'd set the record straight.
I realize that now. Hard to remember everything when your standing there in awe of how cool that little town is. Thanks for watching 👍
I disagree. I think idgie is the old lady. She just won't admit it. It's obviously the same person. The old lady is recalling the memories of her youth. I think it's obvious that the old lady is idgie. Just my opinion
The Secret is ALWAYS "in the sauce." Loved the video!
Yes it is! Lol .. thanks for watching 👍
It drives me nuts the movie implies that Ninny is Idgie Threadgood at the end. At the beginning they fully explain that Ninny was a neighbor adopted by the family and later married Cleo Threadgood brother of Idgie.
Yes kinda confusing especially if you have read the book. But either way it's a great movie. Thanks for watching 👍
I enjoyed your video but it was made quite clear in the movie and the book that Ninny Threadgood is not Idgie. She states when talking with Evelyn that she married Idgies brother Cleo.
This has been debated many times lol.. many think she is the same person and many think she is not. In the book it's been made clear but in movie it's mentioned but she knows just little to much in my opinion to not be her. And the honey at the end.. Idk either way it's a great movie and my family and myself had a great time visiting the town. Thanks for watching 👍
My husband and i stopped in a few years back. It was an hour out of our way and my husband was so annoyed with me for making him go. The Whistle Stop was closed due to some water issues but we ended up having the best time. We both loved it and if you are a fan of the movie, i can't recommend it enough. My husband had to admit it was worth the drive.
I loved visiting that place and will definitely visit again when we are in that area again. Great movie and a great little town! Thanks for watching 👍
I actually run a Boarding House for 7 years now and I tell everyone because it is; this is the Whistle stop.
Its a Great place to visit!
The guy who got his foot caught in the train tracks latter appeared in NCIS las Vegas
I didn't know that thanks for sharing and thanks for watching 👍
I have a question and maybe you know it... the model t truck being pulled out of the lake or pond.. where is this located ?
It's located right there close to the Cafe in the Ocmulgee River on other side of the train tracks. Thanks for watching 👍
I love this movie,i always thought the town was a set or something hopefully one day i can visit as well.
It's a great little town hopefully you can check it out. Thanks for watching 👍
Secrets in the sause 😂
Yes it is 😆 thanks for watching 👍
Oh, this is fantastic! I love this film, as many others do..but I'm a 61yr old Southern Boy, and shouldn't like 'chick flicks' (I actually hate the term) at all. I think the reason I love the movie so much is that I grew up in the rural South, and I can place the name of a real person upon almost every character in it. I know that Georgia is a huge favorite of production companies these days (my career was TV), I just didn't realize production here had started that long ago!. Geez, I live in Atlanta now, I should go visit these places.
EDIT: And yes, I love fried green tomatoes. I still have my mom's recipe.
It's a great movie chick flick or not! Yes go visit, great little town. Thanks for watching 👍
Thank you for every thing Amen.❤
Thanks for watching 👍
What a beautiful little town with lots of history. I loved the movie and then seeing the actual filming locations was a treat. Fried green tomatoes is special to me as its the last movie my mother asked to see before she passed in 1992. I will have to come visit in Juliette and try some fried green tomatoes ! Great video and enjoyed the interviews.
Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed. Definitely go if you get the chance. It is a great little town. Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks I appreciate this I love this movie bless u
Your welcome ! Thanks for watching 👍
Fried Green Tomatoes is on my top five. The junk they make passing as good movies fail me.
It's a great movie.. and i agree about newer movie today. Thanks for watching 👍
Thank you for sharing all of this!! Seriously cool to see!!
Your welcome! Thanks for watching 👍
That guy at the end, he didnt want to open a restaurant because he didnt want to hurt the other guys business.
The owner was a nice guy! Thanks for watching 👍
So awesome I loved the movie and knowing the town is still going
It's a great movie and to me it's even better because you can go visit the actual town. It's so awesome to see! Thanks for watching 👍
Now I'm going to have to go watch the movie again for like the upteenth time! haha It is my favorite movie of all time. I've been to Senoia and did the Walking Dead tour but never made it to Juliette. (Will have to go!) Years ago, I visited the original cafe that Fanny Flag based the cafe on in the book, in Irondale, AL outside of Birmingham. Still have my Fried Green Tomatoes Cookbook I got from there. Great video! So neat that you got to talk to the owners!!
Thank you! People have been telling me about the Cafe in Irondale Alabama. I will definitely check it out sometime. It was awesome to talk with the owner. Thanks for watching 👍
Thank you for doing this video! This is one of my all time favorite movies. I've seen it so many times (I watched it again recently)! I love that you stayed & ate at the café & met the two gentlemen. I'm so excited that your video popped up in my feed. Thanks again!
Awesome I'm glad you enjoyed my video. It was great talking to the owners and the fried green tomatoes were delicious 😋 Thanks for watching 👍
I grew up here lol church and whistle stop isnt far from where I lived
Thats a awesome little town, I hope to visit again. Thanks for watching 👍
First time I saw this movie was at 35,000 feet over the Atlantic... the in-flight movie on a return from Ireland.
Thats awesome! Thanks for watching 👍
To,,,WANDA
Idgie alter-ego.. nice 🙂 it's a great movie thanks for watching 👍
Secrets in the sauce 😅
Lol yes it was 😉 lol.. thanks for watching 👍
Seems to me they ought to be selling Fannie Flagg's cookbook.
I agree, one of the gift stores probably does but they were closed when we were there so I don't know for sure. Thanks for watching 👍
That movie was a “feel good” type of movie for me.
It is for many 🙂 thanks for watching 👍
When ever we have friends a family visit especially from the UK we visit. Plus we have friends that live in Juliette. It's a cool place
Went there in 2018. awesome food
Good food and great little town. Thanks for watching 👍
I just booked a trip to Julieta so excited.
Awesome! You will love the little town. Thanks for watching 👍
nobody ever finds the location of the "river club"
I looked with the time I had available, but no luck. Maybe next time. Thanks for watching 👍
UA-cam has it free with ads now. My favorite movie 2nd is steal magnolias
Steal Magnolias is a great movie too. I have it on my maps to check out as well. Thanks for watching 👍
I pass the Threadgoode house all the time and never put it together!!
I'm sure many people do. A lot of people don't realize only a couple blocks away is Alexandria from the walking dead as well. Thanks for watching 👍
Ty for sharing this is my favorite movie.
Thanks for watching. That's a great movie 🙂
One of my favorite movies. We stopped at the koa for the night and found out we were very close to this area. We did go but it was late and closed up. Susie
It's a great movie. Hopefully you got to checknout the town some. It's a very cool little town. Thanks for watching 👍
Just discovered your channel, so you may have already filmed here, but if not y'all should come to Natchitoches Louisiana, & show all the spots where the movie Steel Magnolias was filmed . It was actually based on a true story about a family from this town.
As a great reader of Southern Literature, "Fried Green Tomatoes" is definitely in top 5! Love Fanny Flagg.
We visited here when we were travelling through several years ago. It was virtually empty but for me, as a fan of the film and book it was amazing. I hate to be picky but Mrs Threadgood wasn't Idgie, she says in the movie that she was married to Idgie's younger brother.
How was the food, and did you have fried green tomatoes?
Yes at the very end of my video I show the fried green tomatoes.. they were delicious! Thanks for watching 👍
I wish you could have gotten a close up more on the treadgood house
Ya, everywhere I go I always think I should have done more. Thanks for watching 👍
Enjoyed the video, you did a Good job. Do you travel throughout the south capturing the film locations of movies or just capture everything?

I can count on all of my fingers and toes how many times I’ve seen Fried Green Tomatoes. Lol It is one of the best, (if not THE best), movies I ever saw. I think I’m going to watch it again tonight. 😂 Thanks for the tour of the town. 🩷❤️
Yes great movie! Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks for showing.
Thanks for watching 👍
So cool! The movie is great, but the book is amazing. ❤👏🏼
Love the movie, but have not read the book yet. Only have read about differences between the book and movie. I will have to read! Thanks for watching 👍
@@HappinessTravelz definitely 👍🏼 😁
It's funny how the movie blew up. Even with the hidden meaning behind it. ❤
It's a great movie! Thanks for watching 👍
That is a very good movie and never knew where the location the movie was made its pretty awesome they left everything the way it was
Yes very cool its all still there! Thanks for watching 👍
why don't you ASK about the train station ?
I did while talking on the porch waiting to go in the cafe. Was not on film but I put up the info on screen after checking out the train depot . You must have missed that. Thanks for watching 👍
One of my all time favorite movies! The music really set the tone and it always affects me when I hear it.
It's a great movie!
Visited there on our way to Florida and had the fried tomatoes, so good. They said the bbq was going out back, nope weren't eating that. 😂
That was such a great movie :)
Yes it was! Thanks for watching 👍
You’ve got it backwards lol. It was shot in Georgia but it was set in Alabama. It was a Georgia sheriff that came to Alabama and ate the “barbecue”
I realized that later when editing 🙂. Thanks for watching 👍
This isnt true. its in irondale alabama
There is a whistle stop cafe in Irondale, but the movie was filmed in Juliette Georgia.
How is that Idgie sitting on the suitcase? Her name was Ninny Threadgoode. They are two different people.
Um, are they?
Well in the book they definitely are, but the movie makes you wonder. The honey at the end and she knows to much not to be in my opinion. Hard to know for sure. Many believe they are the same person. We may never know for sure. Thanks for watching 👍
@@HappinessTravelz 😀👍 I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. Thank you for posting.
