Just for the info... Saint Sava was a member of the most powerful and most influential Serbian medieval royal dynasty. The Nemanjic dynasty. This family, which ruled Serbia for more than 200 years, produced 3 grand princes, 8 Serbian kings, 2 emperors and 2 archbishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Saint Sava was born in 1174 as the youngest son of the founder of the Nemanjic dynasty, Stefan Nemanja (born in 1113, grand prince from 1166 to 1196). When he came of age (in the Middle Ages this limit was 16 years old for boys) his father gave him a province (Herzegovina) to teach him how to be a ruler one day. But after only one year Saint Sava literally said: "I don't want this. I don't want power, money, titles and crown. I want to become a monk and devote my life to God". And so, at the age of 17 or 18, Saint Sava went to Mount Athos in the then Byzantine Empire. His father was against it at first but eventually accepted his son's wish. In other words, a prince just voluntarily renounced his power and went to a monastery! This is an almost unimaginable scenario in the entire history of the world, then or now! Especially now. As a monk, Saint Sava became the greatest Serb of all time... Not because I say so, but because other Serbs who can carry that unofficial title said so. The greatest Serbian scientists, Nikola Tesla and Mihajlo Pupin, the greatest Serbian writer, Petar II Petrović Njegoš, the greatest Serbian athlete, Novak Djokovic... They all agree that Saint Sava is the man. So what did he do? Saint Sava wrote the first Serbian code (with both civil and church laws), he wrote the first Serbian constitution, and he was also a writer (he wrote several books as well). He was a world-class diplomat, a polyglot, a great theologian and spiritual man. He was also a teacher, an enlightener and a man who built a large number of churches, monasteries, schools and hospitals. His most famous monastery is Hilandar, which is located on Mount Athos and which Saint Sava built together with his father, who also became a monk after he gave his crown to his son Stefan in 1196. Hilandar is also the first Serbian university. But most important of all... Thanks to his diplomatic skills, Saint Sava managed to get recognition from the Byzantine Empire for the creation of an independent Serbian Orthodox Church in 1219. He also became the first archbishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church (Serbian Church became a patriarchate during the reign of Emperor Stefan Uros IV Dusan Nemanjic, but no Nemanjic was ever a patriarch). Because of his great contribution to Orthodox Christianity, Saint Sava was declared a saint Equal to Apostles, which is the greatest possible honor in the Orthodox world. Despite the fact that the Turks, the Catholic church and the communists tried to destroy the memory of Saint Sava among the Serbian people and Serbian people in general, he still remained our spiritual father and the most important figure in the history of Serbia.
It is interesting Crypt was painted by standard temporary icon painters (painters specialized for religious fresco-painting), gathered for that from every corner of orthodox world, and they were under supervision of experts from Serbian Academia of Arts and experts from Bogoslovija (theological faculty of Serbian Church). But it is interesting there was a whole legion of artist and consulting experts working in the Crypt, and the real divine miracle is that they succeed to achieve unity of style and consistency of motives as if it was done only by one painter :))))) Mosaic is another wonder... it was fully prepared in Moscow, under supervision of Russian Academy of Sciences and academic Muhin, but there was actually 280 mosaic artist working on it 4 years. It has 15.000 square meters, and that is the surface of two football fields, and every piece of that mosaic was made separately: with natural colors and glass, that were baked on high temperatures in order to achieve specific shade of color for every piece... Then 40 mosaic experts was putting that together working day and night 9 months. Every detail of Saint Sava Temple has its own grandeur that take the breath. The lifting of dome (4.000 tones) you mentioned was revolutionary engineering brake through, something that were never done before, and today it is one of the standard procedure for lifting enormous weights in constructions. The complete outside walls are of real marble (not just decorative trick) and granite, and the weight of that stones are about 3.000 tones (and that is just exterior, not counting marble used inside). etc. etc. Every door, bell, pillar, chandelier have their own unbelievable story... I am not religious much myself, but I feel awe every time I think about facts surrounding the building of Saint Sava Temple... what people can achieve when they have the goal and the will, it is real wonder, and although the temple is built to resemble medieval orthodox temples, actually, it is from bottom to top built with high end technology and engineering, and if it is not enough, it also represent master piece of modern art (artwork resembles old medieval spirit, but it is all done with modern art techniques). I guess that is another hidden symbol built in that temple, because Saint Sava is The Enlightener, the patron of knowledge and education...
I am proud because this temple is serbian, although of course it belongs to whole world. And I am not saying this because I am serbian, but because this is reality: the temple of Saint Sava is one of the most beautiful and most impressive religious buildings in entire world. Such a wonderful piece of both religious and artwork. Period.
Most of the mosaics are finished but construction is still underway, for example soon they will open viewpoint terrace at the top around the doom, with 4 elevators to take you there. Also after they finish that round white paved area around the temple, that whole park in front of the temple will turn into a mix of big paved entrance square (also with similar white stone) and smaller park area.

Yes difference in the dates are because older Julian (from Julius Caesar) calendar has a flaw, namely doesn't have a leap year however since 1920 the ortodox calendar is synced with the Gregorian calendar so the difference in the dates since remain the same.

One recommendation - Savski trg ( Sava's Square), it's a place of Stefan Nemanja's monument. Stefan Nemanja (1113-1199) was a Saint Sava's father. Nemanja founded the Nemanjić dynasty, Serbian Empire and the national church.
All of the paintings in the crypt tell of a certain story throughout Serbian orthodox history. For example there is one where Saint Sava is negotiating with the Ottomans to spare the Serbian people
