You have to be patient and consistent with your training, keep their little folds clean, watch their diet( what and the amount they eat is important) etc.
No creature on earth will love you like a pug. Their sense of devotion is unlimited. My pug is a velcro dog as he is stuck to me where ever I go. That alone is reason for owning a pug.
I am trying to train my pug not to be stuck to me haha, even though it is adorable when she does so but I am worried about her having attachment issues. How is your pug when you have to leave him alone?
I lost my pug today morning to acid reflux, he was 12.5 years old and could've lived more if he wasn't affected by this condition, he was very cheerful and unlike what is said about pugs, he was never lazy, he was always running around and was awake even after I slept, it was a brilliant 12.5 years with him but I'll miss him and he'll stay with me throughout my life
I didn't want a pug, the wife did....well you know who won that one. Now I am attached to him and I love it but not as much as he loves me. We love you Woody !
same here my dad passed and i asked my wife what she would like as a present from malcom (my father)....she chose to have a black pug which we named malcom ....i love him as much as my grandkids
I love my black pug so much. He has alot of issues and it's alot to deal with at times but we all have our issues. I consider myself to be a good pug daddy. I make sure he is happy and honestly work every day to provide for him
1. Mine is very very energetic! Even with an hour a walk a day he is still very active. 2. He knows all his commands! He was super easy to teach actually. Very intelligent! 3. He is my best friend and I’d do anything for him 🥰
Mine is also very energetic and follows commands! I love my baby. He's always following me around and even cries when I get home from work! 😭 He loves me so very much!
Just got my new 8wk pug puppy. Potty trained her to go in my backyard. She let's me know when she needs to go by whining or circling. She's a joy to have 🤗
I made the mistake of trying to bell train my pug. He figured it out quickly and then started to ring it all the time, but instead of doing his business he just wanted to stand in the doorway looking out.
Don't be surprised when the Pugster starts scratching at the Door... I got lucky my little guy was playing with a Big Black Lab... The Lab pee'd on a rock and monkey see monkey do, Bart copied his Lab buddy and from then on he wouldn't use his Pads... Instead, he scratched at the Door and he had me trained... He thought he was a Lab from then on... He used to lay in the light surf, dig'n the cool water!!!
We had to put down our beloved Pug 2 weeks ago. He would have been 10 years old last week. He had Diabetes and required 2 shots a day for the last 2 years. At the time of his death he was totally blind and partially deaf and he started getting huge absesses that were very painful to him. Quality of Life, not Quantity of Life made the decision for us. We are so thankful for him to have been in our lives. I'm a better person because of him. He taught me to have fun, smile, laugh and be myself and he showed me that I could love so much....
Had my pug for 3 years, he is a real gem of a dog, so friendly, well behaved and a real snuggler. The toilet training wasn't a problem at all and he's so good at letting us know he needs to go, bless him x He's a real cutie and everyone loves him, his diet is very set, he doesn't eat sweet things, a little cheese now and then as a treat but he is not overweight. He's our gorgeous boy 🐶🐾
@@sammmm7085 we were very consistent with food times and put training pads down as soon as he'd eaten and drank, we had a key word when he started sniffing round looking for somewhere to wee and we gradually moved the pads closer to the patio door and eventually a pad outside the door for him to use. We then used the key word when we wanted him " to go " outside , so about 15 minutes after he'd eaten we took him outside and said the key word. He is 4 years old now and we still use that same key word when we take him out. He's a very clean little dog and the only time we've had any mess from him was when he was very poorly earlier on in the year which really upset him. Pugs are clever little dogs and if you can spend some time in the first months getting them into a routine it will make yours and the dogs life so much easier. Good luck if you have a new puppy and hope this helps x
Have been a dog breeder for 40 years had different breeds loved them all but a pug is on another level. Unless you have had one it is hard to describe the joy these angels bring to your life. When I ask my boy do you want love he lays in my arms like a new born baby and I ask him if I can kiss his nose and he tilts his head back for me to kiss it. Life cannot get better than that 💕💕
Hi Kay can I plz ask a question, do pugs screaming/ yell /cry for attention loud? As we live in an apartment an would love a pug but afraid of the neighbours complaint..thanks in advance
@@gsaren8915 hi there. In answer to your question they are generally pretty quiet. But it depends on the individual dog. All mine make plenty of noise watching the tv. If animals come on. They do not like being left alone either so unless you do not work at all I would recommend you do not get one. . Hope this helps
@@kaycamille1544 thank you! Is there any puppy breed would you recommend for people work part time, prefer small size pet and not telling too much in case of neighbours complaint 😃? I did research an found that pugs, french bulldog etc. I would love to hear a professional breeders suggestions n opinions, thank you so much! 🐕🦮🐩
@@gsaren8915 In my opinion unless you can commit to staying home for at least six months with a young puppy it is unfair on a young put to be left. That goes for any breed. Puppies are like human babies they need to have human contact and should not be left for more than three or four hours at a time. Older dogs over a year old can be left longer. If you do work part time and really want one a beshon frese is a good breed choice. They do not moult like pugs and are not as needy. Pugs really do need human company at all times. Ideally if you have to work maybe consider getting two puppies as they would have company when you have to go out.
Any pug owner will tell you how amazing these dogs are! So affectionate, gentle and hilarious! There’s a lot of personality in a tiny package and they are happy to play, run and sleep whatever I am doing he wants to join me. My pug took his time learning certain things but if there’s treats around he’ll do anything I ask him lol. He’s always glued to my side and I can’t wait to start a family so my children can play with him and enjoy his endless cuddles 🥰🤗
I’ve had my Rocco for 8 years now and it was the best decision ever. They’re really the best breed of dogs. They’re full of personality and just so lovable.
Hi, i also have a Pug called Rocco, he is 6 years old. He runs me ragged, and its a relief when he sleeps ! He is very astute, and i love him to pieces, he is my love and friend. Pugs are fantastic dogs, i cant and darnt think about my life without him. I just live for the day, and make him safe and happy.
My first Pug lived 14.5 years, and this is not uncommon for Pugs. I now have a boy who is 2.5 years, and his neice, who is just 9 months. The two of them were bred by a breeder who tests for genetic, orthopedic and heart conditions common to the breed. They are beautiful babies, healthy and fit, and two of my very best friends.
I have had the honor of being the father of five adorable pugs. What was said in the video is true but every pug that has lived in our home has had a unique sense of humor, a varying sense of loyalty and they all differed in the amount of love they dispensed. It was my finding that the girls were more affectionate, ate less, and they snored equally. I love their breathing with each sleeping with us. They have all lived to an average of 15 years of age and were all slim due to the fact that I walked with them for extended periods and always avoided extreme temperatures. I have seven grand-daughters who have loved the dogs and I hope they carry on the family tradition. When life gets me down, I know I will go home to my pug who will love me regardless.
My pug was very quick to potty train & was very energetic until her elderly years. Pugs have the BEST personalities I’ve ever seen in a dog. Sweet, non-aggressive, gets along with everyone & everything, five stars baby! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
It sounds like you had a great experience with your pug and enjoyed their loving personality. Pugs can certainly make great pets for the right owner who is willing to give them the care and attention they need.
@@kiraastral230 Thank you for sharing that information about pugs. I appreciate your input and value your knowledge on the subject. Have a great day! 🐶🙂
@@ganymedehedgehog371If you feel that your pug's aggression is a concern, seeking guidance from a professional dog trainer or behaviorist may be helpful.
I have had three pugs through my life but Daisy, the first one, was still the best of them. She was queen of the house but still very loving. She was also the dumping ground the veggies from Ramen cups. She would start dancing and spinning when we pulled those out. Though among my brothers I was the only one who would rehydrate my veggies before picking them out to feed to Daisy. She lived 11 happy years and passed peacefully doing of one her favorite things, napping in the sun on the back porch.
I would say that a pugs lack of energy is NOT a con. It’s just how they are. They are perfect for the low energy people. Also, prone to obesity, yes, but that’s why it’s important to measure the dogs food and also feed them good quality dog food. Lastly, I look at the snoring as a pro! It’s so cute 🥰
My pug on the other hand..makes it clear she wants walks. We go for 3 a day. She refuses to use the bathroom inside or the yard. I must take her for a walk. But alas I love her so we do what she wants.
Most entertaining dog I have ever owned. Brought her into family after losing a child to help grieving siblings. She has helped immensely, especially during covid.
My Benji lived for nearly 15 years. He had just the right amount of chihuahua in him that he didn’t get all the health issues. It was the best 14 and a half years, I miss him everyday. One day I will love another pug but when the time is right. They absolutely have my heart.
Have had 2 pugs for the last 10 going on 11 years now. Growing up with them has been incredible. So much personality, so loving, so playful and so much fun. They’re perfect and I adore them.
We had our pug, Iggy, for 16 years. IMHO..,you could not find a more loving, loyal or hilarious dog on the planet. We're still in a mourning phase but when we are ready, we will most definitely being getting another pub. IGGY FOREVER!!
I'm truly sorry for your loss of Iggy. It's clear that Iggy was a cherished member of your family and brought immense love, loyalty, and laughter into your lives for 16 years. The mourning phase after losing a beloved pet can be challenging, and it takes time to heal and adjust to life without them. It's heartwarming to hear that you plan to welcome another pug into your life when you feel ready. Pugs are indeed known for their loving and hilarious nature, and each pug has their own unique personality that brings joy and companionship. While no dog can replace Iggy, opening your heart to another pug can bring new love and happiness into your life. When the time is right, finding another pug companion will not only honor Iggy's memory but also provide a new source of laughter, love, and companionship. Take the necessary time to grieve and heal, and when you feel ready, consider reaching out to reputable breeders, pug rescue organizations, or local shelters to find a new pug companion. Remember that each dog is an individual, and while they may have similar breed traits, they will have their own unique personality and characteristics. Iggy will always hold a special place in your heart and be remembered with love and fondness. May the memories of your time together bring you comfort and may your future pug bring you new joy and happiness.
We adopted a pug that had been used as a breeding dog at a terrible place. He spent his life in a cage so when he came to us he was very anxious, a little aggressive but we saw such potential in him. It didn't take him long, about 6 months to be my velcro boy. I can't imagine life without him 3 years on.
I have a 5 year old black pug named Edgar. He came into my life as a puppy during a very difficult time for me and his companionship and love turned out to be one of the great blessings of my life. Everyone knows that Edgar and I are inseparable and I never knew that a bond like this could exist with an animal. Because of Edgar I don’t even like to use the term pet because he’s more like blood family than some actual relatives 😃. He’s the most patient, benign, funny and playful creature in personality. He is difficult to take for a walk….he doesn’t like to be pulled or controlled lol 😂. He also NEVER tells me when he’s got to go. He seems content to hold it in all the time which is frustrating because I take him out often and find myself getting excited by bowel movements because at least I can be assured that he’s comfortable and not going to have an accident when I’m asleep. But short of those minor challenges, he’s a true blessing
A good basic overview of Pug Pros & Cons. And I am surprised that the CONS section for health did not include 3 other common problems I have seen in a number Pugs: loss of vision, hearing and teeth, over time. The following is based on my 8 years' experience in Pug rescue and Pug fostering, as well as the blessing of having been a 'Pug dad' to 5 Pugs so far. These are also things to watch out for: 1. EYE & VISION PROBLEMS Pugs' eyes protrude further from their skulls than many other breeds. And their eyes are not as protected by the bone of their ocular sockets as other breeds (including humans). So they tend to get more dirt and contaminates in their eyes. Regular rinsing with a sterile solution is recommended. See your Pug specialist or a pug-experienced vet for recommendations. 2. HEARING LOSS Seems to be a problem for the breed. NEVER stick Q-tips down inside a pugs ear canals. Yes, clean the 'skin folds' at the top of their ear canals regularly. 3. TOOTH LOSS/TOOTH DECAY Although tooth health is easily improved (yes, regular brushing!), Pugs are born with as many as 42 teeth in a mouth designed for less. Some loss is inevitable, and usually not noticed with regular oral exams (by you). They can not tell you if a tooth hurts, or is decaying or they have a gum infection. Ask your vet to show you what good Pug gum health looks like, as well as infection. Regular oral/dental checkups are required. And again: rain them early to accept YOU brushing their teeth, as often as daily. If you don't, you can count on expensive vet bills for extractions, since every extraction will require sedation. Figure on at least $300 for any single tooth extraction, plus extra $$ cost for each additional tooth that has to be extracted at the same time. VERY EASILY PREVENTABLE.
Of all the dogs I have had in my life, my Pug (Charlie) is the best. We got him as a puppy, he's 6 now. He house trained easily, he's well behaved (Pugs are easy to train as they're so treat motivated), I dread the day when we have to say goodbye. I often work in another country and even though we FaceTime, walking back through the door and seeing him, (He ignores me for like 10 minutes, just to let me know he's unhappy I left), and the joy on his face means more than I can say. He's not a pet, he's a best mate, a partner in crime and when he snuggles up to me its the best feeling in the world. I know that 99% of Pug owners will say the same about their best friends.
Spot-on! I rescued an eleven-year-old deaf pug and I can tell you every single fact is absolutely correct! But 5 years later I couldn't love my snuggle buddy any more!❤
My pug Freddy lived until he was 18. He was full of energy and demanded attention every second, he was definitely a joy and made me so happy also he loved kids.❤❤
That's awesome I just lost my pug he passed away in my arms I'm still trying to deal with it he was 12 and a half I had him since he was 8 weeks old he was my best friend
We just put down our pug Lucy. She was almost 16. The shedding is a legitimate problem, and health issues will surely vary from animal to animal. Lucy didn't have the typical health problems listed on pugs, but did suffer from spinal issues in her last years. But let me tell you, if you can handle the shedding you will never find a more loving, affectionate, and rewarding companion. Their temperament is unmatched. I miss my pug so much.
My pug doesn’t understand the concept of personal space but I love him so much. He makes me happy everyday and I’m constantly striving to make him the happiest pup in the world
Some breeders are breeding 'athletic pugs' they are reversing the breathing difficulties found in a lot of pugs (no flap of skin folding over their nose and snout slightly longer). I have an athletic panda pug and she is one of the best decisions I have ever made!
@Blue&Green Pugs used to be fine, without breathing difficulties then through bad breeding they started to have breeding difficulties, shorter snouts, fold of skin covering their upper nose. So when people continue to breed pugs like this then yes it is cruel and it should be stopped. However some breeders are trying to reverse this process and they breed what is called the athletic pug. The are less stocky, have snouts that are a bit longer, no skin folding over their nose and no breathing difficulties. I travelled to another country to buy a pug from an athletic pug breeder and I hope this is the future of pugs ❤️
@Blue&Green no because when responsibly breed they do fine going for runs, hikes, and competing in performance events. A shorter muzzle just means poorer thermoregulation but a long and thick coated breed faces the same.
My pug is now 6. These have been my happiest 6 years in my life. Though she became a "trouble" when my husband stayed at hospital (as I didn't trust leaving her with anyone), she helped me so much in those moments that I appreciated even more having her with me. I cannot explain how funny, affectionate and loyal she has been durin these 6 years but even more so at that time. She is so funny that she made me smile when I felt like crying. Thanks God my husband is now back home and he's cured of his illness. They are now enjoying each other. I understand dogs are not wellcome at hospitals but I think that more than one might agree that in future there will be a space dedicated fir owners and dogs to meet.
What a beautiful testament to the joy and comfort your Pug has brought into your life over the past 6 years! 🐾💖 It's heartwarming to hear how she provided you with companionship and laughter during challenging times, especially when your husband was in the hospital. Dogs truly have a remarkable ability to lift our spirits and offer unconditional love when we need it most. 🐶❤️ It's wonderful to hear that your husband is now back home and enjoying time with your Pug. Your idea of dedicated spaces for owners and dogs to meet in hospitals is truly thoughtful and could provide immense comfort to patients and their loved ones. 🏥🐾 Thank you for sharing your beautiful story! Wishing you and your family many more years of happiness together!
I had my pug for 12 years. He was my true buddy. I was so devastated when he passed, that I couldn't think about getting another dog until over a year later. When I did, I had to get the opposite dog because I didn't want to feel like I replaced him. I got a female bigger dog, a beautiful Golden. She is my baby girl. Two of the sweetest breeds in my opinion.
I'm 51 and ive owned all kinds of dogs thruout my lifetime, now that I'm retired , my beautiful friend gotts me a black pug about 6 months ago ... and believe me, they're the best companions anyone could have , their love and affection towards us is truly unique , if y'all never had a pug, y'all are missing out on love and laughter !!✌🏻💚😚💨💚✌🏻
Our beloved pug Hunter is 9 months old, his as active as a Jack Russel 🤣. He dont like cuddles but he is always next to us. He can play hide and seek but not good at seeking ........... he is house trained and can sit and paw on demand but dont listen to anything else if desides against it. He is the joy of our lives and that makes up for all the doggy glitter in the house. We love our cute boy. ❤️🐾
I've had two pugs. One was a gift as a child from my grandmother that was a breeder. I adored this particular puppy and he adored me. He was very healthy and lived to be 13 years old and died from congestive heart failure. He really did well until his last year and had screaming fits at night and we didn't know why until he only had two months left. I felt bad he had suffered for so long, but he was happy up to the very end when it got more frequent so we decided to put him down as he only had two months left with medicine and he'd be in pain. Years later when I moved out after university I got another pug. You wouldn't even think they were the same breed. Totally different personality (a lot more dominate and protective). My current pug was a spitfire the second I got him home. He rarely snores. He has several inches on my first pug. Super long legs. He towers over other pugs at the park. I don't know if it was the specific line of pugs my breeder had or if this is a new trend in the breed. He has a slightly more prominent nose than most pugs. I am leaning towards this was done on purpose by the breeder to help combat health issues. There is one more con I didn't know about until my second pug. There seems to be a huge difference in personalities either they are very calm or Tasmanian Devils. They also are known for being mischievous aka naughty. They are a lot smarter than you think as they have selective hearing. If you don't have a treat chances are they won't respond to you. Unless you've worked very hard with your pug since it was a puppy. I've also noticed the European lines seem to be more petite and more smushed faces compared to the American counterparts. I'm not sure why this is.
I think you just described my 9 month old black pug 2 a T. He is definitely more Tasmanian devil than laid back. I had another one for 16 years who was the layed back one. Love them both. Would not dream of getting another breed.
I am planning on getting pug for my daughter mainly but of course it will be a family dog. The breeder have two left. Brother and sister. I am thinking to get both of them but i am also worried about the time when the girl gonna be on her "period" what if the brother gonna try to do things with her when i am at work etc. Excuse my english, its not my first language and i dont know some of the proper terms.
House training both my pugs was no problem at all. Honestly. They both learned tricks easily. Their temperament and adorable character is heart melting. They are so loving. Shedding is the only mild irritation, but all furry creatures shed, even my husband!
My husband and I rescue pugs and a lot of them have been older ones that nobody wants. We live to give these dogs loving, forever homes. The only bad thing about adopting older dogs is that you don't have them as long. But you can still love them as much.
I had my Peanut for fourteen and a half years, all is true of most but not all. Not all snort! He was the star of his puppy class, and learned sign language, for all the commands, played tug with the big dogs, no fear. You missed cutting their nails, they can scream, hate them cut .You are right on the Pros. they are like having a little child, give so much love. After having one you will want another...
I have had up to five pugs, Chubby passed due to pug myelophty, a shattered heart is a understatement of what I experienced she was a big part of Sophie's grumble, the other four Sophie the Queen of our grumble, Remus and Tonks brother and sister and Princess Pea Pot all were saddened by her passing, pugs are the most loving companions, loyal and loving you would be hard pressed to find a better friend than a pug.!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Chubby. Losing a beloved pet can be incredibly heartbreaking, and it's clear that she was a cherished member of your pug family. It's touching to hear about the bond and love shared among your pugs. Pugs are indeed known for their loving and loyal nature. They have a special ability to bring joy and companionship into our lives. The loss of a pug can be deeply felt, as they leave behind a void that is difficult to fill. Take solace in the memories you shared with Chubby and the love that continues to exist within your pug family. Each pug holds a unique place in our hearts, and their impact can never be forgotten. If you ever decide to welcome another pug into your life, may they bring you comfort and happiness, continuing the tradition of love and companionship that pugs are known for.
They are a Unique breed. Intelligent and curious friendly and fun. Delightful company and love a lap. Playful and loyal and love attention. We have 2 and they are our devoted family.
Good thing I live in the north where my pugs don't get hot much. They were never trained to do their business outside, they were just so smart that they refuse to do it even in my yard, they patiently wait for a moment during a walk and find a good spot. They also know how to open fence gates, smart dogs. I love em.
I remember my whole life I begged for a pug and finally in 2020 our family decided to start looking for A pet since we were pretty much all home. But we got scammed with almost 3 dogs then we found A pug breeder that we just missed the litter but they were expecting one in April 2021 but that breed took a lot longer then expected. We ended up finding A breeder that had one female puppy left and we were able to pick her up just 4 days after finding about her. So 8n late April 2021 we got our puppy when she was 10 weeks old and now I swear none of us could imagine our life without her she has just completely changed our whole family for the better of it all our life’s just revolve around her now. ( she’s definitely got her fair share of spoiling)
True velcro dog and unconditional love. As a dog, a pug's superpower is love. My black Pug boy was born St Patrick's Day 2021 🙃 He does great with my 5 kids, 3-13 when I got him last year
I have a 9 year old pug named Vayder. He has hip issues and uses a doggy wheelchair ♿. He let's me know when he needs to go potty by whimpering and stays quietly by my side while I work from home. He's definitely my best friend and companion. I don't know what I would do without him ❤
The only con is the shedding lol. I love my pug more than anything! She’s my darling and she cuddles with me all the time. She’s probably the only reason I got through virtual learning because she stayed by my side or on my lap the whole time 🥰
We are on our third Pug…NEVER a housebreaking issue! And they can ‘hold it’ for hours and hours. Skin issues, eye conditions, ear problems, shedding, yes…but they are so worth it.
I found this article to be very fair. I love pugs more than anything... but I have found the health problems to be a heartbreaker. I have fostered and adopted quite a few pugs over the years. I've found the ones with longer snouts to have more energy and breathe easier. The ones that have super curly tails always end up with back problems. Loss of bladder/bowel control and paralysis. It's horrifying. I wish the breed standard would change to encourage people to breed healthier pugs. If you want them to go potty outside, you're just going to have to take them out regularly... of all the pugs I've had, only one would tell me when she needed to go out. Under the age of three they are VERY energetic! Pug puppies are full-on nutters! It's only when they get older that they chill out and become couch potatoes. Black pugs shed much less than fawn pugs. The really soft fluffy pugs shed the most. They really are the most amazing little companions and some are easier to train than others. Every single one I've had is my life is a little different.
Went to the pound once wanting a dog, i saw this little pug, and she was just looking at me with these needing eyes, I told her I’d come back, I put my name down it the raffle and I got her, my little miso! Best decision of my life, got a life long best friend, never in a million years did I think I’d get a pug and here I am!
Good balanced story on pug ownership. Pugs have a giant personality but are 'high needs' for the reasons this video explains. Don't have one unless you are willing to be a responsible owner - and understand what that means. For all that, are they worth the outlay and huge part of your life they will become? Absolutely.
I love my pug. I always loved pugs! And the bread! And after getting one I couldn't be more happy! All of this is right! But they are so much more than some pros and cons. I had other family dog when I was young and I must say pugs are different!
I love my pug, I did't see much of the cons, I take it for a walk at least two times in the day, It's very healthy and love to play with my kids all the time. We also enjoy the way it snores.
Very accurate video! We have 2 pugs. I'd say tho that the lethargic thing is dependent on the personality of the dog. Ours are pretty active. I'd also say that they are highly emotionally intelligent dogs. They will drop everything to come and comfort you when you are sad, and will bring you their toy when you're happy and ready to play. They read people very well!
It's wonderful to hear about the vibrant personalities and emotional intelligence of your pugs! 🐶💡 "Every dog truly is unique, and it sounds like yours bring a lot of energy and joy into your life. My pug quickly housebroken. Not hard to do if you do your homework. Fabulous and sturdy little dog. Excellent in training and clever. This has more to do with lazy us. They snore but not terribly. I sleep better with my pug. But you do have to feed them a healthy diet and give them some exercise. There is a reason the pug has been around since 400 bc. They rock and the breed is worth maintaining.
I've got two pug buds, Piccolo (black) and Krillin (fawn), and they give me life. They are almost always up for playing inside and up for SHORTS walks. I actually adore how needy they are and follow me and feel they need to sleep right up next to me. The personalities of these two, lol, smh. They love our morning routine. Krillin wakes both me and Piccolo up with his nibbles and we instantly go into playtime. Love them so very much! Soooo, sooooooo, very much.- After a couple of years, I do plan to bring a third one into the batch but because of the potty training issues, I'm taking my time.--- The cons: they are barkers, and Krillin has major health issues and takes seizure meds 2 times a day ( for the rest of his life).
I've had 3 pugs, and lots of other breeds. There is something about a pug, their love of you, sassy characters that far and away make up for any minus. There is nothing more loving, funny and full of joy then a pug.
It's good to know the breed before owning one. Pugs are pets and that's it. Definitely not there to work. They are entertaining clowns. Cute AF. One thing the video didn't cover is that pugs were bred to be 24 hour companions and they are. Privacy isn't a thing with a pug. Sleeping alone is something a pug doesn't do well.
NO pug owner talks about the down side of them constantly under your feet, tripping you up, chewing up everything in the house when they are puppies. All puppies chew but not like this. Our shoes have to be out of reach or he tears them up. This dog chews on the steel bolts on my swing chair on the deck. My trim in the house is destroyed. Every wooden piece of furniture is chewed on. I have him gated out of the living room because he started tearing into my $2500 couch and so at night you can watch TV in peace because he wont just lay there and go to sleep like a normal dog, he wants to bite your hands or run over you like a racetrack. My family wont come in the house because he jumps on everybody scratching there legs up. People dont even try to pet him. I have to put him in the crate to have people over and they all ask what's wrong with that dog, why is he so hyper. I thought my Jack Russell was hyper. This dog blows the JR out the water. He requires constant attention. His whole life is spend crying after you. Its very sad they are breed this way. He is 14 months old now and getting better. Hopefully, he will calm down in the future so we can enjoy him more.
@@mattsbrute He will, around two, they slow down. They are full of energy, so I take mine out twice a day for roughly an hour. We play fetch until she sits next to my feet, that's the "can we go home?" sign. She's 15 months, so she's of an age. It's important for pugs to be around other people so they can break the jumping habbit. Your boy needs to learn that other people around are normal and there's no need to get hyper. A good trainer can help if things get too much, though. Luna is schedule for training starting the second week of July.
I had a pug before. My pug learned pretty fast for potty training. I didn't really do outdoor training until he was 6 months old because I was told it would attract bugs if he was a baby but I wasn't sure about that. I just wanted him to be safe. He did learned in training pad and he did really well. After he started doing outside and we had a schedule for him. He usually wakes me up around 7am to let me know he needs to use the washroom. We kept it the same schedule everyday. I really miss him :)
I'm in the process of adopting a pug in a few months time. Due to the current owner not having enough time for him. Trying to get enough information and understanding the breed.
My Pug was my greatest companion. We had him from 6 weeks to 13.5 years. It hasn't been a full year since we had to let him go, and I'm wanting a new baby soooo bad!
I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved pug. It's never easy to say goodbye to a cherished companion, especially one who has been such an important part of your life for so long. It's understandable that you may be feeling a strong desire to bring a new puppy into your home and heart, but it's important to take the time to grieve and process your emotions before making any big decisions. Adding a new furry family member can be a wonderful and rewarding experience, but it's also a big responsibility that requires careful consideration and preparation. When you're ready, I hope you find the perfect new pug to love and cherish. 🐶💕
My Pug, Bear was really good at letting me know when he had to go out. The only accidents he ever had were due to me getting home late on occasion due to traffic or if he had an upset tummy. They truly are the best dogs.
I love my Pug Ted. He saved my life and my fathers life. He's smart and loving and tough as ol' boots. I did hear something interesting about Pugs though. Apparently black pugs have a single coat while apricots and fawns have a double coat that traps heat and they shed more. I certainly know about Ted's shedding... I have to hoover the house twice a day for half the year :D He suffers in high temperatures and it's not easy keeping them cool, he likes ice cubes but i put them in his water instead of giving them directly to him so that he doesn't break his teeth trying to chew them. Sometimes I'll wrap some in a towel and use that to cool him a bit which seems to work. When i first got him he HATED going out in rain, was terrifed of the shower and took a lot of patience and love to get him through that. Now rain doesn't really bother him unless it's really heavy and even then if I go out in it he follows and bath time in the shower is seen as more fun. Fireworks and thunder... he doesn't care at all, he's really chilled out. He loves visitors an deliveries because he gets a fuss off new friends... he's awesome! We've had a few accidents in the house but it's part of owning a dog to clean up after them, I try to not be aggressive with him about those but at the same time make him realise it's not good behaviour... since then it's stopped. Dogs are not stupid, they just need to be taught the rules, just like you would with a child.
We've had pugs for over 20 years now. The first two were true gentlemen. Now we have two brothers and they are so different yet charming boys. I can't recommend the breed more. You are literally buying your soulmate when getting one!

I am trying to train my pug not to be stuck to me haha, even though it is adorable when she does so but I am worried about her having attachment issues. How is your pug when you have to leave him alone?

Hi Diane! Thanks for sharing your pug's story..😊

@@jasonbrown467 Absolutely, he's a gem 🐶
How u gave toilet training?
As a Dachshund owner I beg to differ:-)
You're a fantastic, responsible owner Robert Orser! 👍

What a moving story S M! 😊
Black and Edgar - just like Peediepie’s dog!
These are also things to watch out for:
1. EYE & VISION PROBLEMS
Pugs' eyes protrude further from their skulls than many other breeds. And their eyes are not as protected by the bone of their ocular sockets as other breeds (including humans). So they tend to get more dirt and contaminates in their eyes. Regular rinsing with a sterile solution is recommended. See your Pug specialist or a pug-experienced vet for recommendations.
2. HEARING LOSS
Seems to be a problem for the breed. NEVER stick Q-tips down inside a pugs ear canals. Yes, clean the 'skin folds' at the top of their ear canals regularly.
3. TOOTH LOSS/TOOTH DECAY
Although tooth health is easily improved (yes, regular brushing!), Pugs are born with as many as 42 teeth in a mouth designed for less.
I love my Pug so much. He has Napoleon Syndrome but he's very loving 🥰🥰
Show him who's the boss during training Daughter of Athena ..🙂

Some breeders are breeding 'athletic pugs' they are reversing the breathing difficulties found in a lot of pugs (no flap of skin folding over their nose and snout slightly longer). I have an athletic panda pug and she is one of the best decisions I have ever made!
Wow! Rare and exotic pug! Excellent choice Elena Perez..👍
Snout length has nothing to do with breathing, those dogs are at the same risk for BOA as short muzzle.
@Blue&Green no because when responsibly breed they do fine going for runs, hikes, and competing in performance events.
A shorter muzzle just means poorer thermoregulation but a long and thick coated breed faces the same.
@@mavel2038 what about pugs that have a snout so short that the flap of skin folds over their nostrils. I hate seeing that :(
My pug is now 6. These have been my happiest 6 years in my life. Though she became a "trouble" when my husband stayed at hospital (as I didn't trust leaving her with anyone), she helped me so much in those moments that I appreciated even more having her with me.
Thanks for sharing your pug story/experience Jasmine Kettledon.👍
I think you just described my 9 month old black pug 2 a T. He is definitely more Tasmanian devil than laid back. I had another one for 16 years who was the layed back one. Love them both. Would not dream of getting another breed.
@@adelletaylor1858 Beautiful story!
I own 3 pugs, and I can say they’re one of the best dog breeds to own! Super relaxed and love to be near you!
I totally agree! Thanks for the lovely comment Lindsay Penney. 😊
NIce one Leela Turanga! 😄😄😄
My husband and I rescue pugs and a lot of them have been older ones that nobody wants. We live to give these dogs loving, forever homes. The only bad thing about adopting older dogs is that you don't have them as long. But you can still love them as much.
Excellent comment Candance Linzay ! 😊
Thanks, Linda for sharing your pug story and for being a good pug Mum!👍
A great option is a pug mix. My pug mix has a proper snout and thus no health issues but she still has the pug loving personality.
Pug mix breeds are very popular today.
Snout length has nothing to do with breathing. Your mix is at the same risk of BOA as a regular pug.
I love my pug

Good thing I live in the north where my pugs don't get hot much. They were never trained to do their business outside, they were just so smart that they refuse to do it even in my yard, they patiently wait for a moment during a walk and find a good spot. They also know how to open fence gates, smart dogs. I love em.
Nice Grizz of EU !
That's a touching story Shay M. 😢
True velcro dog and unconditional love. As a dog, a pug's superpower is love. My black Pug boy was born St Patrick's Day 2021 🙃 He does great with my 5 kids, 3-13 when I got him last year
Nice! Thanks for the comment Donald Louie. 😊
Honestly, pugs are wonderful and great companion dogs for someone older, my grandma had one for right at 15 yrs but passed due to her age
Yes. They are good therapy dogs Lance Hammons. Thanks for the comment.
I have a 9 year old pug named Vayder. He has hip issues and uses a doggy wheelchair ♿. He let's me know when he needs to go potty by whimpering and stays quietly by my side while I work from home. He's definitely my best friend and companion. I don't know what I would do without him ❤
Please say "hello" to Vayder for me Karla Crockwell.💕

The only con is the shedding lol. I love my pug more than anything! She’s my darling and she cuddles with me all the time. She’s probably the only reason I got through virtual learning because she stayed by my side or on my lap the whole time 🥰
Was she "muted" all the time during your virtual learning MultiverseTheory? 😏
We are on our third Pug…NEVER a housebreaking issue! And they can ‘hold it’ for hours and hours. Skin issues, eye conditions, ear problems, shedding, yes…but they are so worth it.
Thanks Susan for the comment!
Thanks April Walters! I'm glad you liked the video. ❤❤❤
Great info thank you for sharing
Went to the pound once wanting a dog, i saw this little pug, and she was just looking at me with these needing eyes, I told her I’d come back, I put my name down it the raffle and I got her, my little miso! Best decision of my life, got a life long best friend, never in a million years did I think I’d get a pug and here I am!
They’re amazing dogs but one con you guys forgot to mention is that they’re the biggest lickers in the world. LOL
Yes, they are affectionate dogs...

They really are, and my husband is more tolerant of it than I am so he goes to him for a good salty taste
I have had pugs for over 30 years. I currently have two and in my opinion, they are the best dogs ever. PUGS RULE!!!!!
Good balanced story on pug ownership. Pugs have a giant personality but are 'high needs' for the reasons this video explains. Don't have one unless you are willing to be a responsible owner - and understand what that means. For all that, are they worth the outlay and huge part of your life they will become? Absolutely.
Thanks for the lovely comment rosco1pug!
I have suggested to people who work away from home not to get one. They need a company.
My pug Sophie is my life. Love her more than most humans. Loving, affectionate, sometime mischievous, she has brought so much joy and laughter
Awesome comment Ralph Alonso ! 😍😍😍
I love my pug. I always loved pugs! And the bread! And after getting one I couldn't be more happy! All of this is right! But they are so much more than some pros and cons. I had other family dog when I was young and I must say pugs are different!
I totally agree SMDOS ! 👍
Shedding, mischief, constantly begging for treats. Nothing compared to their playfulness, loving attitude, and endless amusement. Love my pug!

I love my pug, I did't see much of the cons, I take it for a walk at least two times in the day, It's very healthy and love to play with my kids all the time. We also enjoy the way it snores.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful pug story José Alberto! 🙂

Thanks for the comment, Elisa Smalley! 😊
I have a pug called Bruno and we are lucky to have him in our lives. At night we both snore together.

Nice pug story. Thanks courtney jones-laweka! ❤👍
Wow. I must’ve really lucked out. My pug was house trained within 12 weeks and it was little to no effort on my part
Good on you R.P. 👍
I've had 3 pugs, and lots of other breeds. There is something about a pug, their love of you, sassy characters that far and away make up for any minus. There is nothing more loving, funny and full of joy then a pug.
Lovely comment Kris Berry!😍
It's good to know the breed before owning one. Pugs are pets and that's it. Definitely not there to work. They are entertaining clowns. Cute AF.
One thing the video didn't cover is that pugs were bred to be 24 hour companions and they are. Privacy isn't a thing with a pug. Sleeping alone is something a pug doesn't do well.
Hi, Thanks for the lovely comment R Woodward! I have a video about "Home Alone" dogs here: ua-cam.com/video/3JfINuxciA4/v-deo.html
True, pugs will follow you everywhere they can. Can't handle more than 4 or 5 hours alone.
@Consultorio 107 Thank you so much for your feedback!
What a beautiful pug story! Thanks, LunaraLiao. 😢

Yeah, that's the sad part about pugs Franky Villa.
My Pug, Bear was really good at letting me know when he had to go out. The only accidents he ever had were due to me getting home late on occasion due to traffic or if he had an upset tummy. They truly are the best dogs.
What a beautiful comment! Thanks Jen. 😊
Love my pug. He’s taught me patience.
Thanks for the lovely comment Ryne Siemon. 😊
I have to hoover the house twice a day for half the year :D
He suffers in high temperatures and it's not easy keeping them cool, he likes ice cubes but i put them in his water instead of giving them directly to him so that he doesn't break his teeth trying to chew them.
