Just picked up 20" sand-ride and 14" sand hi-hats. Absolutely incredible!! Best cymbals I have heard and played in over 20 years of drumming. Considering ?? Go get them!! Can use in any musically application. REALLY!!
I have an 25year old Zildjian 20" Crash/ Ride that was handed down to me by my brother some 15 years ago. It has many of same qualities that I hear in this Byzance Sand Ride, the ability to function as jazz ride with shimmer and great stick sound as well as a crash sound for rock gigs. Cool job by Meinl!
I’ll-timed ship horn @ 1:33 was awesome. I use the entire sand line for pretty much everything- great cymbals. Particularly like the 22” sand ride over the 20”.
Cymbal on the left is a 18' Byzance ex dry. Mike Johnston and other Meinl artists use the same one. It is a real gem! The ride seriously sounds incredible! I have been playing Zildjian for 20 years, and recently switched to Meinl. No one is producing the sounds Meinl is doing. Briliant!!
The Sand Hats were not available (and they may not have even been in development) until after the release of the 20" Sand Ride. I have had several sets pass through my hands, and they are quite versatile. However, I would not even consider using them in a Metal type setting. Anything else, they have the capabilities to do, but the 'hats and their sound are also subject to what your ears, hands (and the sticks the hands hold). I like them. You may, or you may not.
They are, in fact, very close in weight and sound. While they all don't sound exactly the same, they are better matched than any other signature type that I've played or owned. The 20" sand ride that I just purchased sounds incredibly close to this one Benny is playing.
@RockTheGABE The thinner it is, the less likely it is to break, actually. You will find that heavy cymbals without much give break the easiest, because they absorb the least shock from a hit. Think of it this way. What is more likely to break when you drop it, a sponge or a slab of concrete?
Has anyone had any experience with his sand hi hats? He is not using them in this video. Is that because they were not out yet? or, is it because they are not as multi purpose as ride??
Meinl Byzance Extra Dry Thin Crash 18". Whats the sand ride like? was at a music store (i live in Australia) and they had it fairly cheap, because they're closing down so everything in the store is being sold 25% off or more. would you reckon this would be a good ride for modern music and every pop stuff, because im in a popular cover band and wasn't sure this ride would cater for it. don't really want to miss out if someone else gets it.thanks in advance

It's sounds fantastic, I could really use one of these for some side projects I do.
Things sounds great with Benny playing it- I've heard other famous type dudes playing it,
they don't understand the character of the cymbal maybe?
yes

Great cymbal, great drummer.

Bought it! Beautiful ride cymbal!
I like the toms and the ride cymbal
4:11 That cross-over is sooo sick!!
He is using the Byzance Traditional Thin 14" hi-hats here. Typically uses sand hats.
This may have been before they exist
I'm impressed, Gordon Freeman is actually a pretty good drummer.
@Helslinky because this is a professional recording. this what it would really sound if recorded in a studio. not through a low quality camera mic.

The sand ride is so amazing, this video has yet to receive a dislike. I am a proud owner of one too!

So versatile!
It's probably a Meinl Byzance Extra Dry Series Crash, I guess between 17-18 inch diameter.
Mine should arrive today...
best ride on earth :)
Yeah, Turkey's master class in hand-made cymbal crafting...
yeah i know, but it's the sound of a fly being swatted. sort of cool!
that 7/8 riff at 2:00 kicks so much ass.
i like how its a ride, but still has the tone of a crash. its lagit
For Metal And Rock !!!
...The two people who disliked this video were actually using the computer upside down.
i hear its really thin so if you crash ride a lot will it break easily?
Bought one of these and its simply amazing!!
Does anyone know what cymbal is on hi far right he plays around 1:30?
lol
love the ride!!!
this gets me thinking, maybe I can sandblast my own cymbals...
Does anyone know what his crash to the left is?
It's a shame they don't sound the same as this one...
how would you clean/polish the sand ride?
Could you at least should pics of a nice beach???
What is that crash he is using?
3ergezimmer is awesome!
at 3:09 what is the name of the song ??
What happens @ 2:07?

bell's not cutting enough. looks amazing though

Pretty good?
Wow :D!
@xxddrummerxx Fuck...it's hard to break a Ping Ride, I had one for years and it was like a manhole!!!!
Bryan, you should get a dictionary..
i thought it was a well conceived and executed joke
i think i saw regret on his face after that sandblast joke.
Ok he is on the beach because it is sand blasted...i get it now. A tad corny maybe?
Why is this is terrible quality?
GOT IT!!! lol
you totally hear he's german xD
but one reason to be proud to be german ;D
unfortunately, if I put that on my set, I would probably jizz all over it. NICE ride.
Germans don't do comedy
Check out Sabians Jack Dejonette 21" ride... thats the one to get!!!
Mike
@RedOnChrome who cares, he's german
