Haha yeah man! Thats how I feel exactly. The game didn't even last long enough for me to save up for a computer that could run it lol. KSP 1 has such a dedicated base & tons of excellent mod content to explore!
Awesome video man! If you want some extra deltaV, you should optimise your ascent. You should be banking 45 degrees at 10,000m and 70 degrees at 20,000m, then keep pointing 70 degrees until your apoapsis is as close to 70km as possible, any higher and you lose efficiency. Then you make a manuver node to circularise your orbit, so that you can see how long the burn will take, and then only start up your second stage when your time to apoapsis is the same as the burn time. That is a lot of work though and probably only neccesary for RSS, so its fine if you think it's more effort than it's worth. Anyway, looking forward to watching this channel grow.
I'm enjoying the series so far, and Kcalbeloh planet pack is really cool looking (I don't know if I will ever try it out or not, I haven't done a whole lot in KSP due to not having time to get good at it). It's fun watching you do the exploring!
Thanks!! There's a homeswitch option in the mod settings, that will reset the KSC to some of the planets with atmosphere already in the Kcalbeloh system. That might make it a little more accessible for newer players! But I'm glad I can show an entertaining portrayal of a kcalbeloh mission in the meantime!!
I recommend installing reviva and this other near future iva mod. It adds cool functions to the stock cockpits and the near future capsules like being able to fly in them first person
Huh. Haven’t really used the MPD thruster all that much, nice job. I’m actually returning to Sunorc from Kcalbeloh itself after landing on Iomena and flying by Roquea and Onrefni. When I went to the Kcalbeloh planets I found that I would be entering a relatively small sphere of influence travelling at about 20km/s and had 10 minutes to capture before leaving the sphere of influence. So I would recommend a thrust to weight ratio of at least 0.8 if you’re interested in actually landing on any planets (can’t land on Roquea because there is no land and I didn’t go to Uleg because it has like 40 degrees of inclination so I don’t know about it) and yeah, the inner planets of Kcalbeloh are very difficult to go to, but the black hole rise view from Iomena is gorgeous
Yeah, the MPD thruster is pretty good actually. I feel like it starts to cap out its dV capability at like 40,000 though if I remember right. That is good advice on the Kcalbeloh system captures. I'm going to need to have a plan for a high thrust burn with maybe secondary propulsion to be nice and clean. Definitely going to be using Far Future tech mod to get to the black hole systems though. I've already started planning the mission. Hopefully I can make it to as many as I can!
@@boguekerbal most Kcalbeloh manuvers require 20-30km/s of delta v, more for returning to star systems. I would probably use the 5m nuclear salt water engine if building a specialised craft for Kcalbeloh
Definitely the stock Nerv Nuclear engine. Only carries liquid fuel. since its just be a vacuum engine you can pack as much fuel as you can on there as long as you still have a positive thrust to weight ratio in theory, your craft will just accelerate slow. But it will be really efficient and you can go super far with it
and if you're HeffMk2 (who did a Kcalbeloh interstellar mission with stock parts, go check the dude out), then it's the ion engine and a Kerbol slingshot
Hey, I am a new player and inspired to play kcalbeloh when Im experienced enough, could you give advice? What is better to start, career, sandbox or science?
Welcome to KSP!! I would recommend starting in Science mode & unlocking more & more parts. Career mode adds a lot of repetitive contracts, & sandbox can be overwhelming with all parts available from the start that you over-build or have larger/more complicated rockets than is needed. Simplicity & efficiency is the goal in the beginning! Thats how you will learn the quickest. Science mode helps you to follow your own learning curve. It doesn't have orbital rendezvous contracts tho & that will be a game changing maneuver to learn. I recommend when you have learned how to reach orbit & maybe do a flyby or attempted landing of the Mun, try out the orbital rendezvous training mission available in the main menu. The whole solar system opens up when you learn rendezvous fr.
@@boguekerbal I tried rendezvous, quite hard with timing especially, so I use MechJeb 2's launch to rendezvous setting, which just pulls timer and when its done, I launch by myself
@@boguekerbal so like in ascent assistance theres button if you have target named Launch to Rendezvous, which only pulls up timer and nothing else, which should be used for pressing Engage autopilot, but I use it for just timing. But I do sometimes use MechJeb since Im lazy and testing some stuff like training docking
The reactor has a lifespan readout, which will essentially tell you how much time until it runs out of fuel. This particular craft doesn't use a ton of energy when it's not powering the engine, so when I'm not burning, I turn the power generation down on the reactor down to a point where it will be many decades before it runs out. And then I turn it back up to full power for a short time while burning. That combined with the rough idea of how long these missions will take help to keep it from running out of fuel.
So ideally you want to get rid of as much empty tank mass as soon as it is empty as possible. Realistically, the best kind of staging is called asparagus staging, where sets of radial tanks flow into the next set, & decouple in sequence as they run out of fuel, and move on to the next ones. It's probably worth looking up a tutorial! I also believe there's a stock craft that comes with the game called Kerbal X that has it if you need an example. Cheers!
Bro I think like since I was 14 I've been playing on & off. I am now in my 20s but I am way more into it now than I was then. I only really started playing super seriously like 3-4 years ago. I first landed on the Mun & returned when I was like 15 haha.
@@boguekerbal I was thinking you had to have been playing for a long time. Props to you.

Yeah! Everything has been stock parts up until this point! 😁I have discovered Aralc & Sunorc systems are entirely possible to explore with stock parts with the right patience & planning! The brown dwarf & black hole systems require insane amounts of delta V beyond the theoretical capability of stock engines, so I am using Near Future for the Brown Dwarf system & Far Future for the upcoming Black hole system episodes. Hope that's Ok! Thank you for the enthusiasm, It made my day! 😁

How do you do the maths to work out how much fuel you need for the nuclear reactor for these long journeys?
The reactor has a lifespan readout, which will essentially tell you how much time until it runs out of fuel. Make your payload as light as possible. Don't use struts or panels. Another way to max deltaV apart from staging.
