      Also, blame the trip planner for being incorrect. It's not done being worked on, so as shorthand it takes the delta v needed to reach the Mun and doubles it. He probably only needs a fraction of the thrust it takes to get there to return, but it's still fine to be overly cautious

    If you unlock the fuel transfer lines, you can have all the layers of boosters firing at once, if the outer boosters transfer fuel to the inner ones. That way, every booster is drawing fuel from the outermost fuel tanks, and when they’re empty you can just drop them and keep going. It’s called onion staging because of all the layers, and it lets you drop fuel tanks as you use them up so you only have the tanks you need, with no extra weight

    Just so you know, SAS is what is draining the electricity, and is what uses the reaction wheels. RCS relies on monopropellant thrusters, which you don't appear to have unlocked yet. Good luck with future missions!

    I have a tip, the Tripp planer is not yet perfect, because it calculates the same delta V for the way back as for the way there, but on the way back you can break in the atmosphere and you don't need a low orbit bevor doing that. For me 3500 delta V in low kerbin orbit is enough to go to mun and back while still having 500 left just in case

    Imagine being a Kerbal and command tells you that, no, you don't have the energy stores necessary to run the lights in the control pod for you to see amid the infinite blackness of empty space while you're desperately trying to make sure you don't accidentally either fling yourself into infinity or slam into the Mun and die on impact. I can hear the rabid OSHA screams already.

    a tip: the RCS toggle will not do anything unless you have RCS thrusters (which use Monopropellant fuel) on your craft, when RCS is toggled on they will help to rotate or move your craft
    what's actually orienting you for the most part is reaction wheels, which can be their own parts or built-in with command pods, probe cores, or lander cans. these use electricity to produce rotation
    also, to capture at another celestial body, you want to get as close a pass as possible using the least delta-v possible
    the closer the pass, the more you benefit from what's called the Oberth Effect, essentially it takes less dV to manipulate your apoapsis when you're at periapsis and vice versa. the closer to a body you are, the more efficient your capture burn is
    don't worry about being slingshot out of the system as well, in fact that's generally a sign of a good encounter. it means the mun's gravity is slingshotting you a lot, meaning big oberth benefits. also a sign that you're going with the mun's rotation rather than against it, when you do capture into an orbit

    I'm like 99% sure the first failure was due to not just being top-heavy but because I don't think struts decouple in sync correctly, so when the boosters pulled away, the struts connecting the top to the boosters pulled on the top before breaking/releasing, resulting in a massive axial tilt that got out of control quickly. Unfortunately, without higher levels of gear that can mitigate problems of being too top heavy, I don't know that struts will work at all for the current configuration. At least, optimally, that is. KSP is still massively forgiving compared to real science so you can get away with some failures and recover.

    Going to point out a misconception you had at start here which many make. It isnt about being top heavy. It is about aerodynamic drag. Think about a badminton birdie. Which is heavier, the weighted ball end or the feather skirt?
    Is why rockets have fins. They can help steer, but primarily it gives drag to keep it pointed the right way. Spoilers on race cars? Same thing. Not just downforce but keep it from spinning out too.

      @ph8429 Рік тому

      I have had some trouble with ladders too. I have only unlocked the first type of ladder(the small segments). When I exit the capsule, I cannot climb down onto the ladder bits. But, once I am on the vertically placed ladder bits, I can move up and down the segments IF I press "F" each time to switch from one segment to another. This also works going up from the top segment of ladder to the capsule. I just can't come back down without jumping/dropping. so at least I can get back into the ship

    My guy, you have been playing KSP for years and you're still doing simple errors like not engaging the thrusters long enough before releasing the clamps, causing you to drop sharply, collide on the way up, and screw over the whole run. It doesn't sound like much, but I bet this video is cut down from hours of gameplay, so saving a few minutes now is also saving a few more minutes editing later on.

    I really love ur content and everything but i just have to say that u look like a person that cant make an orbit, bc first u have got to make a big angle in the start so that the solid fuel thrusters are more efficient (bc they work best in an atmosphere) and then u wait to 70k meters of apogee and then burn everything so u can have a safe and efficient orbit😊
