Reminds me of a story where a burial society from Seattle had to travel down to Tacoma to pick up a body and bring it back to Seattle for burial. There was the hearse driver and an attendant in the front. On the way back to Seattle, the driver turned to the attendant and said he needed to use a restroom and could they pull over at a service station. While the driver was in the restroom, a wino sauntered over and asked the attendant if he could get a ride. Hoping to scare off the wino, the attendant said there was no room in the front, but he could get in the back with the body. The wino, much obliged, climbed in back. The driver returned and off they went. A few miles down the road, the wino speaks up, "Hey buddy, mind if I smoke?" Completely shocked, the driver ended up putting the hearse in the ditch.
Ms. Jeanne Robertson, found you by accident yesterday (Saturday July 20, 2019) and I've been watching your videos...……….. you're very funny. You have proven that one can be funny without using a "profanity" in your jokes. As a Comedian myself, I find people like to hear clean "jokes". Yes, there is so much humor in everyday life and if you can take that and make people laugh...……….. well, what can I say? God bless you and Left-Brain...…….
I was known as "the Mexican's kid." I would politely explain that I was "the Argentina man's kid." ANd the clincher was, "Where are your people from." I had no idea why I left them speechless! It did them good to see an unashamed small child. Keep them laughing and they will all love you.

It's like sittin on the front porch talkin to you, so comforting, so familiar. You have more of an impact on people's lives than you'll probably ever know..it's so good to be able to go home again, and laugh and smile, even if it's for only 3 minutes at a time. Thank you...you're chosen career has brought such warmth and humor to so many! May God continue to bless you and yours!!
My father always used to complain that my mother dawdled when getting ready to go anywhere with him, and he used to say: "You'll be late to your own funeral." Pop passed first, and we all went to Tennessee for his funeral. Then, some years later, Mom died, and there was a lot of confusion concerning her funeral, but we had her remains cremated and due to some terrible mix-ups concerning the rather draconian rules at my work place regarding bereavement leave, and my two sisters' inability to attend due to their residence in nursing homes, no one was able to deliver her "cremains" to the site where her ashes and Pop's were going to be deposited. We finally managed to get the ashes delivered to Mom's cousin, but the delivery was not in time for the ceremony. Pop turned out to be right: Mom was late to her own funeral.
My uncle was late for his funeral at Arlington. It involved a blizzard that shut down the federal government in Washington. The powers that be decided to reopen the government on a sunny Friday even though the roads, like RT 66, weren't completely cleared. Major traffic jams resulted. The hearse was stuck in traffic and was late. We missed the service completely due to gridlock, and they couldn't actually bury him because there were 3 ft of snow on the ground. They did do the rifle salute and taps. I'm told they were nice. I think my uncle would have laughed.

My Granny’s hair dresser came & fixed her hair at the church just before the service, & it was closed casket. It was the weirdest thing seeing the blow dryer & curlers plugged in. Cathy, the hair lady said she’d been to the viewing & just couldn’t stand the thought of Granny going to her great reward with bad hair.
Great story. Love it. I watch and listen to the stories and I feel like I am home. Born and raised in North Carolina. Currently living out of the country.
One time, in the sixties, on a remote Scottish island, where we lived, one of the locals passed. My daddy was assigned to get him in the coffin, forgetting poor Rory was a hunchback. In my fathers words, "We tried him in the box sideways, frontways, puir wee fella, couldnae get him tae fit. I had tae add two extra inches a' the wey roond tae fit him." I was ending myself laughing, had to ask him to stop.

I first heard Jeanne on a chartered bus on the way to see the Ark in Kentucky last year. My wife and I laughed our heads off. It was so entertaining to hear someone who tells stories that are clean and humorous. She has a God given gift and my wife and I always enjoy listening to her.
I've listened to three videos and the grocery store cracked me up. The Rafting trip was killer (I'm Catholic and I'd have brought more wine). This was PRICELESS! God bless you ~
Nothing shows a family’s TRUE COLORS THEN A FUNERAL FLASH, OR A PERSONS DEATH. YOU CERTAINLY GET TO KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT PEOPLE. THIS WAS A WONDERFUL STORY AND I APPRECIATE HEARING IT. I UNDERSTAND THAT. JEANNE HAS PASSED AWAY, BUT I AM SO THANKFUL YOU ARE SHARING HER HUMOR WITH THE REST OF THE WORLD STILL❣️❣️🌈 My sister loved her & owned several of her books, and had them on display for anybody to read them wanted to♥️♥️♥️♥️
I have been following Jeanne for over 5 years after stumbling on her accidentally! I have watched all her videos several times and know the stories well, but she always makes me laugh and feel at home. I remember my father’s funeral well as my mother was a much beloved police office in our little down so they honored her by honoring my father and he was buried with great ceremony. My mother died many years later and had moved from the small town so her funeral was quiet and unremarkable, people forget you very quickly, except for the fact that when they opened the grave there was already a body on top of my father. An explanation here, in our small cemetery plots are vertical rather than horizontal due to lack of space, in a family plot whoever dies first goes on bottom and the remaining partner goes on top when they die. Well there was a women interned above my daddy when they opened the grave, seems they had buried her in the right plot but had put daddy in the wrong plot. They would have had to dig up Mr. who knows, and dig up my father switch them and rebury both plus rebury the woman over her real husband. After contacting me about the problem my solution was to contact the other families relatives and see if the would agree to switching plots with my family, that way both men remained where they were, and they only had to move Mrs. who knows over to be on top of her husband and put momma on top of daddy and move the grave markers. The other family agreed and that is how it was handled. I often wonder what momma would have said about all the years she put flowers on the wrong man’s grave and whether the other woman had put flowers on daddies grave all those years.

Jeanne is just too funny. What is sad is the fact that the 4 people who gave her a thumbs down don’t have a sense of humor or understand plain English.
@Kyril J that's so true. I laughed reading your post since when I lived in CO, I saw that a lot. My ancestors from Missouri are this way! Now, I'm back in MO (30 years older, mind you) trying to arrange my own end-of-life "affairs". It IS hilarious and serious at the same time! JEANNE'S counterpoint is brilliant!
Just when I was feeling real low you came along with this video and brought me back up. Oh how I laughed! I know that you think this was a Southern thing but family burials like that happen up here in Wisconsin. With us it is usually ham sandwiches with the potato salad. Why didn't you send a 7-UP pound cake? Maybe LB didn't want to go shopping for the ingredients? Hope you are feeling/doing better. Luv and Hugs.
My Mom and Dad are buried beside each other but instead of her being on the "right" side whichever that is she was buried on the wrong one because her uncle by marriage would have been next to her and she did not want to spend eternity by that uncle she disliked. So she had Daddy agree to the grave by him. It is the South and no u cant make these things up
Got the same story! Mommy laid to rest on Daddy's left side (to be at least a plot away from Granny, Daddy's mama). Had to reconfirm w/the funeral home 3 times but PRAISE THE LORD my Uncle Billy was on the Coolidge Cemetery board & got the orange cones (just for the diggers, NOT the day of funeral). I'd MUCH rather have her here but I'll see them Glory. I'm stuck in NoVa (LONG story) so I've MADE IT VERY CLEAR I'm to be cremated & sprinkled on (or 'urn' buried next to) Mommy's grave in Limestone Co TX. NOT gonna have Cousin Rudolph's multiple interments! But 7-UP pound cake, fried chicken & potato salad WELCOME @ sprinlking!
My great grandmother took against her lawful daughter-in-law. (Incidentally, great-grandma was perfectly ok with the illegitimate granddaughter.) But great-grandmother decreed there must be a wall around her plot so that she would not be in the same cemetary with the daughter-in-law. I'll have you know there is a 6" wall around great-grandmother's plot to this day. We call it a "tripping hazard."
Love how she has her friends, family and people in the audience. It just adds some realism! Yes, I believe chicken n potatah salad is also called rib stickin food! Had many cousins in NC and I was born and raised in CA my whole life... the South is different, but so much fun when it comes to their vernacular! Love it!

What a master story teller....it just flows out of her and carries me along. And me sitting in long way off Bangalore, India can feel the atmosphere like it is here.... Thank you Jeanne R.
Jeanne, I am a shut-in by the Covid-19 virus and discovered you for the first time. You are hilarious! Although I am a 3rd generation Oregonian, my roots are in North Carolina (Caswell, Person & Granville Cos.) Your story about digging up Cousin Rudolph Elroy took me right back to a distant cousin from Leasburg, NC and her story about a Great Grandmother some time after the Civil War. When Solomon died they buried him in the family cemetery at the back of the property and even then it was real chore to get him back there for burial. His younger 2nd wife lived long after he died. As she neared the end of her life, she made her children promise they would inter her next to her husband in the family cemetery. Eventually the day came and she passed away. When the family thought about battling chiggers, mosquitoes and dense brush they decided it would be so much easier to bury her in the Leasburg Cemetery right inside the town. And they did! Four or five families live on the home property and family members started seeing a light in the night floating from the Leasburg Cemetery down and across the fields before disappearing in the brush in the direction of the family cemetery. The family began to talk and they were sure she was telling them that they hadn't followed her instructions. All this time her little log cabin had set empty with other families nearby. This story was brought to a climax when several family members were out in the yard and a chicken wandered into her house. There was a lot of squawking and the chicken came out of the door and fell over dead! That did it for the family! As soon as feasible they dug up Mom/Grandma and moved her body to the family cemetery. The moving night lights ceased.
Wow! Thanks for being a fan!! I just wanna appreciate you in particular for being a fan and you should keep supporting me it brings me so much joy that I'm able to put smiles on your faces and hearts.
Ive listened to this story more than once and shown it to friends and re watching now after Jeanne has passed I broke out in tears. I miss her so much. This story is so beautiful if you get the respect and beliefs of a family. My mom had never been to her grand dad's grave b/c it was 50 mi away at a huge military cemetery instead of in the small town family cemetery.

This isn't just a "Southern" thing. I think it's more of a rural thing no matter where you live. The only difference is that we have hotdish and jello salad...
You always make my day!!! I have tremendous respect for you and to me, you' have tongue and cheek, like my hero Carol Burnett. Thank you for doing what you do!

When she said that, I actually began thinking about what I would want to be buried in; I'm usually in jeans. But then my next thought was, "That might get uncomfortable after a while. Maybe pajama pants."
My father in law was very, very distraught over my mother in law's death. They had been married 65 years at the time of her death. At the funeral home he went over to touch her hands and said "she is cold".One of the staff got a small blanket and put it over her hands.
When my sister-in-law’s son was little, she asked him what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday. He said “funeral cake.” It was the one she always brought to the church basement dinner when someone died. We still just call it funeral cake, named by a 5 year old.
B Dub I can relate to that. I started making a wonderful jello salad to take to funerals or the home of the bereaved. It was finally named “Pam’s Funeral Salad”. Now it’s expected at every funeral or church function we have. If anybody asks about it or for the recipe that’s the only name it’s known by around here. The original name on the magazine clipping was Lazy Day Quick N Easy Luscious Lemon Salad so we just shortened it! 😉😳 🍋
Pam Priddy Nothing wrong with having your own claim to fame! What’s funny to me is the funeral cake has coconut, your dish has jello. Coconut and jello are the two things on this earth I will not eat. I’ve never even tasted Jello, and only have tasted coconut by accident. I guess I just can’t have dessert at the funeral dinner!
A friend of mine mentioned funeral beans once. I asked what she meant and she said the green bean, mushroom soup, and French fried onion dish that is ubiquitous at potlucks everywhere. They’ve been funeral beans ever since.

I'm from the South and I understand perfectly. I'm not sleeping with strangers!
My mom did my grandmas hair for her funeral bc my grandma always said nobody else could ever do it right.
Jeanne is a classic. A true, clean humorist which is hard to find nowadays. Go Jeanne, you're the best.

Jeanne is an excellent humorist ... she is so talented at telling stories, so engaging and funny ... I can watch and re-watch her videos all the time!
😆 TOOO FUNNY!!

Yep! We do it right in the south, we have the potato salad and the chicken and sing “Amazing Grace” and I wouldn’t change anything.
Soon the new generation is going to ban stuff on pretext of racist or mysogyny or whatever new crazy stuffs, stay strong.

God bless you ~
My my, my, Miss Jeanne Robertson, i haven't found anything funnier. Your video's crack me up everytime.
Too funny. I do hope the other family did well by your daddy! ;)

I have tickets to your show in Paducah, Kentucky this coming Sunday! Can't wait!

Jeanne is just too funny. What is sad is the fact that the 4 people who gave her a thumbs down don’t have a sense of humor or understand plain English.
I'm convinced those people have fat fingers and hit the down thumb accidentally. Please forgive them, and ask God to help them lose weight. 😊
They just don't understand how burials can get complicated down here
@Kyril J Bless it, that just breaks my heart.
I tell you what, that's cuz they're not from these parts.
LOL! LOL! LOL! Listened to again 10-21-21. I lost it at the end. So funny!
So fun to listen to your story telling. Such a gift! 💕
Thanks for your love and support. ❤️

I think this is one of me favorites! Thank you Jeanne!

Love how she has her friends, family and people in the audience. It just adds some realism! Yes, I believe chicken n potatah salad is also called rib stickin food! Had many cousins in NC and I was born and raised in CA my whole life... the South is different, but so much fun when it comes to their vernacular! Love it!
Love this lady and would love the chance to see her in person

What a master story teller....it just flows out of her and carries me along. And me sitting in long way off Bangalore, India can feel the atmosphere like it is here....
Thank you Jeanne R.
THIS story is a real classic. I like it every time I hear it. I just sent it to my cousin!
That punchline was so well-executed it could wake the dead.
This is one I have watched many times, so funny, I love it!
A master story teller. How anyone could give you a thumbs down is beyond me.

Oh we get it, alright. Just some get it better than others.
That's normal in the southern Midwest! We have a specialty called funeral potatoes.
A friend of mine mentioned funeral beans once. I asked what she meant and she said the green bean, mushroom soup, and French fried onion dish that is ubiquitous at potlucks everywhere. They’ve been funeral beans ever since.
