Up until recently yes, however the shoulder straps have become a major weak point now. Plenty strong enough, just not enough padding, basically non existent at this point. That means it now cuts into my shoulders way too much. I'll be switching to one of my other packs with better padding. Hope that helps answer your question.
Thanks for the very thorough review . I appreciate how in depth you went and how you actually showed the interior of the pack and gave your thoughts on the quality and features. I have not seen a review as good as this anywhere else so thank you! all the best ! Felix
Thanks Felix for your excellent comment. This kind of feedback is massively appreciated so thanks for taking the time to do so. Apologies for the shakey camera work, still learning all the little camera tricks and tips 😅. It's heartwarming to get comments like this and I'm really glad the video helped you. Again many thanks 👍
@@MulhavenBushcraft No worries, it's really helpful how much it informs people to choose the right kit. Good luck with the video projects for future keep em coming!
I like that pack. The removable sides are a great way to size down, as you said. Great adjustability to it as well. Good choice getting that one. I like the color too. Good hiking partner. Military packs are so robust. They'll last a lifetime.
Your right about it being robust that's for sure. I use this pack a LOT! I've taken some heavy loads on many days and the straps and stitching etc shows no signs of tearing or nothing. Really solid and versatile for sure 😊 Thanks for watching brother, much appreciated 👍
@@MulhavenBushcraft Almost bought one myself the other day, $35, but I have so many packs and other gear it's getting had to justify buying a spoon or strap these days 😁 When you're retired you have too much time to think about equipment.
You'll get sweaty swamp feet trekking with those wellies. 😂 Nice review by the way and gave all relevent details. I regard 2kg as a really lightweight pack. My main rucksack is almost 5kg empty, but I value srurdiness, quality and protection above featherweight and fragility.
I can't win either way, soaked if I don't wear them and soaked if I do 😅 Ye everyone is going for lightweight these days but it nearly always comes at a price in some way or other. For me as yourself I just want I pack that will haul some decent weight when needed and that will last a long time. The pack is still holding up well for me and use it multiple days a week. The only fault so far is the plastic coating on the inside of the pack material around the lid area is starting to fray and fall off. Due to constantly opening and closing I guess. Prefer if the plastic coating was never there in the first place but not a massive deal for me anyway. Thanks for watching and commenting my friend 😊
I think that most mountain bags sit higher on the back so that you can wear a harness while on the mountain. Good bag im just about to buy one from military 1st
Absolutely correct, if you're used to wearing longer packs it will feel a little strange at first. I don't really notice it anymore though. Thanks for watching my friend 🌲😊🌲
How you getting on with this pack ?? Still using it ?? With the rocket packs when zipped together .....fit the shoulder straps diagonal so wide at the bottom and narrow at the top, that makes the rocket packs fit better as a day pack 😉🤙
Have used it every day I've gone out since I got it, so a lot in other words. It's held up very well, no tears anywhere and I have a pretty heavy load in it most of the time. My main criticism of it now would be the lack of padding in the shoulder straps, certainly feel it on longer hikes with heavy loads. Good advice about the day pack straps, I will definitely try that out. Thanks for watching brother 🌲🇮🇪🌲
@@MulhavenBushcraft ah nice one, thanks for updating me re how the pack is holding up 🤙 taking mine out this weekend for its first outing. One other thing I noticed is the side pockets zip upwards and the zips seem to slip down an inch or so......do you have any issues with them coming unzipped when loaded ?
Noticed it a little but never to cause me any issue if I'm honest. Pack is usually jammed so tight with stuff it's hard enough getting the zips down anyway if you know what I mean. Definitely no issue for me or danger of zips coming down and side coming off or anything like that when loaded up. But ye some kind of zip lock would make sense alright to stop it happening altogether.
Good review. I bought a similar pack a few years ago. I believe that the pack's waist belt rests higher up because, like the British Army PLCE bergan, the waist belt is to rest atop a pistol belt or similar combat belt. Overall, it's a good pack for weekends or overnight. For long-term survival use, a British PLCE bergan or Dutch Army Lowe Alpine "rugzak" is better, i.e. stronger material (1000D Cordura).
Agree 100% on why the pack rides that little bit higher than your average hiking pack which are usually longer and sit that bit lower on the hips. Makes perfect sense. Takes a little while to get used to just. Good solid packs are hard to find and I've gone through more than I should have at this stage. So far this one seems to be holding up not bad, no fail points ....... yet 😅 Thanks for your input and thanks for watching, I do appreciate it 👍 Oh and thanks for the info on the British PLCE Bergan.
From my own experience I can say it's as tough as the issue rucksack I had when I served and those where very sturdy packs. As for other forces issue rucksack I can't say as I don't have any personal experience with them.
I would think it's not the same pack. From what I've heard though those are a quality pack anyway, possibly even better than this one. However, I don't have personal experience of using one. Thanks for watching my friend 👍
The biggest problem I've had after 2 years of hard work is that one of the zippers that attach the side pouches bent open and failed. For me that's a big problem as the main selling point of the pack for me was the ability to attach/detach the side pouches as and when required. Another issue is lack of waterproofness and no kind of cover comes with the pack. If your gear is not WELL sealed inside the pack then expect it to get soaked in heavy rain. Last issue for me is that the shoulder straps are too thin, with not enough padding. Aside from those above issues it's a good enough pack. I hope that helps and thanks for watching 😊
I OWN THE DUTCH VERSION AN MOST PEOPLE ARE TO WEAK OR DON'T NO ABOUT THIS BACK PACK'S. THE BANG FOR THE BUCK IS THE DUTCH ARMY STRIKE VERSION. IT'S 40+20 AN THE DOESN'T HAVE AN FRAME. PEOPLE DONT REALIZE THIS PACK'S US THE SPACE VERY WELL.

While in the military, I grew up on the U.S. Alice Pack with the external frame. Military packs have certainly come a long way since those days.
They sure have. Better in some ways and worse in others.
