You know, I always liked this particular series of videos. But, because your sticking with the same formula for each comparison, I’m starting to love them. Well done Bobby.
Are we sure there’s not paint on Dunerunner’s arms and legs? When I touch then they feel like die cast, so I assumed they were painted with metallic flecked matte blue.
I have to disagree on the alt mode. FT just made it up where as XTB actually made their's look like a real world Chenowth hellfire, which beachcomber's toy was based on. In 2016 reall world alt mode was still a focus of the MP line and they nailed that.I agree totally that the arms are a mess but I also think the engine is way better on the xtb. Great comparison as always. Thanks for putting in the work.
I still prefer the XTB version. I'm a sucker for interactivity with the MP humans and it's wonderful in that regard. It doesn't hurt that I haven't had the trouble you seem to have had with yours.
Bobby you've got Arkose's forearms mistransformed. They have a much more similar sculpt to FT at the forearm, it just doesn't look like it the way you have him (which is wrong -- sorry big guy!)
The paint is interesting, as I'm a self confessed sucker for a good paint job, but if the metallic fleck plastic looks good I'm OK with it, and there's no risk of wear. Its a little muted for the blue on FT but doesn't look out of place so I'm good. The articulation discussion is coming tho.....
By all means the FT is probably the better figure, but the XTB just looks better for what I want out of an MP for me. I don't even mind the back because I like my Transformers to have some kibble to show they actually transform. Not a fan of the toon"hide every other vehicle bit" aesthetic". Supposedly the later arkose runs have better QC and engineering too. I'm going FT for every other minibot option but this one just didn't resonate with me.
Normally I prefer real world alt modes, but in the end the real vehicle Beachcomber is supposed to be doesn't look like Beachcomber. I've found it to be fairly consistent that minibots seem to be an exception for me in my desire for real world alt modes (Huffer and Cliffjumper 3P figures both come to mind). I don't really know why.
I hope we get a versus video soon that doesn't include a FT unit so there can be a modicum of suspense as to the outcome(I know you can only review what is released).
Didnt know yall were recovering from COVID man,its good to see things are good. I kinda want the G2 Arkose still. Not sure why. Apollyon kinda turned me away from Xtransbots. Though their Trailbreaker has my interest.
Just watched your afterthoughts video on Patreon. I'm glad you posted that because I felt you had been harsh in your initial review (harsh in a way that made me wonder if I missed some things, and like it too much for what it is). So, I see where you're intending to drive the conversation. Here's my two cents: I think Goose is thoroughly mediocre, the joints on my Sheridan's arms are so loose that it can barely hold a pose, and I broke the plastic on Hunk's backpack in both places just putting the tabs in. And would it have killed FT to include a couple of plastic birds to go with the "I speak Bird" visor gimmick? I think you're right--it's time for "the talk."
For me it comes down to , idc about beachcomber that much same with others. I have the xtransbots one and prob will never buy another bc agin. For me the diff is not enough. It’s getting to the point where Fanstoys just beats everything. I got the hunk bc I needed that character. Yes they are always better than the others but to me not so much I need to switch. Thanks love this stuff , even tho we kno the outcome lol.
I think you could make the argument that while FT won a significant number of points, each one of those points was only a small difference from XTB and when you consider how old Arkose is now; maybe it's nor quite the landslide it seems to be? I have both but currently XTB is still on the shelf, mainly because I'm waiting to be in a good head space to have a go at using waterslide logos for the first time haha.
Waterslide decals are amazing. I've been using them for years. I totally messed up my first set though as I dunked the entire sheet into the water and they went everywhere. After that, I just cut them out 3 or 4 at a time and apply. I'm picking up Arkose as he's super cheap now. Plus his alt mode is superior to Fans Toys as he actually looks like a Chenowth Hellfire.
Here's the thing. You put all the Xtransbots minibots with the Badcube minibots with old MP Bee and with DX9 Powerglide and you have a group of minibots that look like they came from the same line. Scale and aestheitcs of all modes, flaws and all, are similar enough to pull that off. You start mixing in the more toon accurate new MP Bee and FT minibots, that group shot looks far less cohesive. Not saying one or the other is better, just that there's options now. I can't bring myself to replace my minibots with the new FT options. It's going to commit me towards going full toon, which I'm still kind of "eh" on, and I kind of already have what I want sitting on my MP shelf.
O this was great! To be honest, i will - for now- still be biased towards Fanstoys releases. But when i first saw dunerider in your last video, standing alone, - in my mind--Arkose was the far more interesting one, an XTB release mind u!! 😂😁also that parrot was a musthave now 😂, and i was pretty bummed that i didn't get Arkose and already ordered Dunerider. Well, after seeing them side by side.... 😅 I am so glad i waited for Dunerider. The scale and the White sit better with me, and Arkose now seems like a little halloween skeleton, with that chest now 😂. Thanks for all the work. Washout indeed.
Man from the point these are separated in years, there should be a light years gap between the 2. I love Fanstoys, but they use certain aspects of their releases from 3 to 4 years ago. With the way figures are evolving each day Ft at times don't get with the current times. They should be starting trends not following out dated ones.
At this point I’m done replacing figures unless it’s light years better and so far FT’s recent stuff just isn’t. I bought Sheridan and Hunk and wish I hadn’t, not because they aren’t good - they are - but just because they aren’t THAT much better. Here, XTB still wins for me because despite the mess on the back it’s more visually interesting than FT’s flat toon look. And as others have mentioned it blows my mind that you didn’t knock FT for their one piece girdle they’ve been giving so many figures.
I totally agree. With the big price difference, you would expect FT would be MUCH better than other brand. But the fact is that they are only slightly better....FT is probably the worst when comes down to value for money.
Been out of the loop. I didn't know you got COVID. Did it affect the kids? Hope you all recovered fully with no problems. Great video as usual. Keep up the great work.
06:45 - There's no way you don't mention the terrible uniflap hip piece on the FT as a detractor. ... Annnnd you didn't mention it. Nor at 08:50 when reviewing hip articulation. Unbelievable. :P
There are a lot of things I prefer on the XTB over the FT and vice versa, but if I was to buy one today, it would probably be the FT offering. That said, it doesn't offer enough for me to sell my XTB to buy the FT one.
That's pretty much my feeling on both this one and Hunk, honestly. Side by side today, FT wind the day. Not enough there to make me switch out though. Maybe I'm just winding down this collection and don't want to spend another small fortune constantly upgrading...
I like your comparisons better than others, we know you preferences, but you try to be impartial and fair. Not just, 'I like this more so it's better'. I'm personally undecided on this character... Both have their pros and cons... But I'm leaning towards Arkose because he not a cartoon character and looks more robotic, and I prefer his colors... But he's a bit wonky, but i like the mechanical back of Arkose..which of course you find funny... But I am tiring of this cartoon aesthetic slavery
Nice Redman rip. Love it!!! As far as the toys. I don't think the FT is that far ahead of XTB, considering when the XTB was released, and where the company and industry stood at that point. I don't find FT attempt to be indicative of the current standard, or what a FT should be. Just my opinion though
Despite FT being objectively better i still like my Xtb a little more, i do not really agree on scale and FT feels too big for me, also from the front it looks too plain and uninteresting, while the xtb had that car kibble that breaks the all white body.
It would be nice if we could buy just the accessories from one company or the other, so that way we could get the figure we really like, and have all potential accessories without having to buy the figure we don't want.
Bobby, I do enjoy your comparisons, however, as I already knew from previous videos, you are openly BIAS towards (high pitched squeally voice) Fans Toys. I will disagree with the SIZE comparison according to the chart, Fans Toys comes up to Primes waist & above the bumper on Smokescreen, where as XTs kisses Smokescreens bumper and is above the knee/mid thigh on Prime. As you say, it is subjective (which I find at times you have difficulty with, due to your bias w/ (high pitched squeally voice) Fans Toys. This, being subjective makes it 6-4, still a loss, but closer than one thought yet still. I do agree the Fans Toys is the better choice. Of note, it will be interesting when/should you get a Sea Spray/Spindrift 2.0 & do a comparison with the current champ (XTs Neptune), b/c normally (high pitched squeally voice) Fans Toys products sell out quick everywhere, yet one can still pre-order FT45 2.0, which is very unusual. The FT 1.0 seaspray looks terrible, he’s 1 of the 4 FT figs I’ll never get for sure lol, I also have the MT seaspray and I like him as well, cuz the bulky look that kind of similar to the hasbro toy look. Your outburst of laughter when comparing the backs of both Beachcombers made my day. Seriously.
Absolutely. That and his little one's SUPER high pitched voice killed me.
I just picked my FT brawn from toy dojo I thought my day was good his laugh did it for me too
Your laugh at the back part was amazing and I loved it
I totally prefer the XTB vehicle mode for looking more realistic. Toonish bots and realistic alts in MP for me.
Love the nod to Redman in the beginning. You,my kind sir,are a hip hop head💯
