Great video man. I recommend reading the dmc manga: Visions of V. It goes even deeper into Vergil's psych and more details on V's thoughts throughout the story of dmc5.

Thanks for the recommendation. I may check it out. I’m not inherently against media outside the game that gives you more story. My issue is when that outside media has important information you need for the main story to even make sense.

In regards to Mundas, he doesn’t have his powers in the human world, most of it got sealed into his swords because otherwise it would have been sealed along with the other demons. He also passed those swords to his sons at an early age, so it’s completely possible that if something slipped through it could have merc’d him

I know but it’s not explained how. Considering he’s the strongest being on Earth, Hell is closed and demons are immortal it’s very suspicious that it isn’t explained how this is even possible.

@@liltone829 True, but that plot point never made sense even if you just look at DMC1. 2000 years ago he revolted against demons in favor of humanity. So, he sealed his power into the sword, closed the gates, and lived for 2000 years before getting a wife and having kids? Then either he was immortal and weak when the demons attacked, of Dante and Vergil are immortal and been alive for 2000 years. Well, the games let them age, so they're not immortal. It's just a bit sloppy.
Honestly, I'd love a sequel to the DMC reboot where Vergil goes to Hell, frees Sparda from imprisonment, and discovers Sparda is mad from torture, and the brothers need to face him together.

@@r.babylon2885 You can't really say it's "sloppy" dude.
Sparda DID age after he sealed away his demonic power along with the Underworld. We can see it in the Sparda family portrait from DMC5. It's because he had been living as a human, thus he aged like one.
The same way that Dante looks older than Vergil in DMC5 because he's been living as a human, as opposed to Vergil who has been embracing the life of a demon.
Can't really say the lore is sloppy because Dante and Vergil age when Sparda aged as well.
And if you're wondering why Sparda aged yet didn't die in the span of 2,000 years, it's because technically he's still a demon. Either that or he sealed his power a while after he severed the Underworld from the human world, and THEN lived as a human.

    • @r.babylon2885
      @r.babylon2885 6 місяців тому

@@liltone829 They state specifically in DMC3 that after Sparda's revolt, he used the amulet, his sword, and a priestess to seal the world. Lady is a direct descendant of that priestess. That was 2000 years prior to the games. If all of his power was put in the sword and removed from him, he shouldn't be alive for 2000 years. And yeah, Dante and Vergil age, but they age like normal people as long as they remain in human form.
It's really the only problem I have in the entire DMC lore

The way you addressed my arguments in the previous poll is pretty much EXACTLY how I expected you too. To reiterate why many fans including myself don't like how Vergil is represented here:
1)Vergil had the belief that "Might makes right" which is the the idea that those in power can determine what's right in wrong in society, since there no one to oppose them. with Vergil himself having arguably having his most iconic phrase used not only in the mainline games, but many cross over games as well. which is the phrase that " Might Controls Everything" And this belief that Vergil believes in explains EVERYTHING about him. WHY did he idealize his father so much and spoke so highly of him to Dante and Arkham in DMC3? Because his father was STRONG, and was powerful enough to be arguably the strongest being in the DMC unniverse, and since Vergil values strength, of course he respects his father and puts him in such high regard, and is why he CONSTANTLY talks about him in front of Dante and even Arkham to an extent. And why Vergil's ends up being confused at Dante for not pursuing power giving his legacy and asks Dante directly in their first fight in DMC3.
    2) Vergil values his lineage and looks at it like nobility- since Vergil knows he is the son of the strongest being in the unniverse being Sparda, aka the dark knight. And fitting of a knight, Vergil thought him self to be the heir of royalty, and found fighting lesser Demons beneath him. And we see this mindset displayed in Vergil's FIRST introduction in the beggining of the game, where he seemingly ignores the first boss fight in the game that even Dante failed to kill with named Hell Vanguard, with Vergil walking past the demon when he challenges him and then once the demon gets to close he cuts him down without EVEN making direct eye contact. Another example of this is in DMC4 special edtion, where a bunch of demons try to jump Vergil, and an arguably irritated half breed takes a deep breathe of annoyance before making quick work of them. Heck, He values his lineage wrapped around tradition so much, that he doesn't like using guns, because he believes it's in poor taste, and ONLY does it once against Arkham when he fought him alongside Dante.
    3) Vergil is cutrhroat and selfish- since Vergil's goal in the original game was to achieve his fathers power and was prepared to do ANYTHING to get it. This includes murdering his brother to get the amulet. And summoning a tower in the center of the city killing countless innocents in DMC 3.
These three things are all aspects of his character that have been CONSISTENT for years now spanning multiple titles and crossovers.
IN DMC 5, Vergil loses a lot of these character traits. For instance in the previous games Vergil is more Stoic and reserved throughout the series, with the only thing on his mind is the pursuit of power, and doesn't give damn about anything else or who to kill to get it. This is why the reveal of Nero being Vergil's son makes zero sense . Since Vergil showed ZERO indication of being attracted toward anyone throughout the series. Not only that, but a human? WHY? Vergil sees humans in general to be inferior to demons. I say this because his whole goal is to become a complete demon because he believes being a pure demon is the way to ultimate power, and we see Vergil get PISSED when Arkham calls him an imcomplete being in DMC3. So why someone so goal oriented, and with a superiority complex would spend time with ANY human, especially with what his goals were feel completely out of character. Worse, it wasn't even forshadowed in the games prior. With the only hint given to us is a character design that is similar to Dante's in DMC3. Which the producer at the time in an interview around DMC4's release saying that the ONLY reason they chose to use that character design they did for Nero was because he thought lit looked cool after DMC3 was made. That's it, No deeper meaning than that. The only reason fans had speculated for years before the release of DMC5 that Nero was Vergil's son even without foreshadowing is because of how similar they looked.
And it is INCONSISTENT character writing for Vergil to turn good at the end of DMC5, since Dante LITERALLY made the same argument of trying to stop Vergil from achieving power in 3, essentially telling him that their the sons of sparda, and their obligation is to defend mankind like their farther did, since it not only was the right thing, but also honors his legacy and due it together, and tells Vergil that he'll will stop him if he continues to go down the wrong path in their dialouge before the final battle at the end of DMC3, and again, Dante shows he values Vergil as a family member like Nero by trying to save him at the end of DMC3 after their fight, but in that game Vergil REJECTS Dante, by slicing his hand for trying to save him from fall into the darkness of the demon world. The problem in DMC5 is that Nero DOESN'T make a new argument on why Dante and Vergil shouldn't be fighting each other. Only EMPHASISING the family aspect during their convo.Thats it, And was STILL something that Dante alluded to at the end of DMC3 based on his words and actions. hence why I say it's inconsistent.
You also FAILED to address the writers potentially hand waving all the deaths that Vergil caused in both DMC 3 and DMC 5. Since even if Dante and Nero forgive him. I doubt the hundreds upon hundreds of families murdered by his schemes would forgive him. So how they expect to operate their shop in modern society without MASSIVE push back is silly, And it would be unrealistic if EVERYONE did. It's a Tekken 8 Jin situation all over again... Hopefully, if there's a DMC 6 that ends up not being the case, but we'll see.
However, the Primary problem I have with this video though is that you seem to imply that there was always more to Vergil than what many fans perceived to be true, which where the traits/aspects I just mentioned, but the problem I have is that ALL of the arguments in your video showing that Vergil is more than just those three aspects I mentioned above are shown ONLY in DMC5, NOT what came before, there is ZERO foreshadowing from the previous games to show that Vergil does not believe these things and have not these three character traits before DMC5. Now, you could argue that the Capcom owns the story, and their writers and can develop the character how they see fit. But that was NEVER my argument to begin with. When I said they ruined his character. I simply meant that they pretty much removed the character traits/ aspects that I and other long time Vergil fans found him to be a fun villain, since the writers showed those character traits unapologetically through the man's dialouge and actions . Only for all of that to go to the wayside in 5 by the end. I'd argue that it's completely reasonable for fans of Vergil's character in previous entries to not be on board with this direction in 5, based on everything I'd laid out. Now, YOU may like this direction for Vergil's character, which perfectly fine, but I DIDN'T, which is just an area where the two of us will just have to agree to disagree, which is fine by me. But you CAN'T be surprised by peoples reaction to the character in this game given the EVIDENCE I just laid out.
