I really like your videos. You explain everything so thoroughly and clearly. Please keep making them. Your orchids and violets are beautiful! Thank you so much.
The charcoal info was very good! Your son was so helpful for having you show the caps..i will get them from the dollar store..i get alot of the soup size plastic containers their n put holes in them,or i save the clear plastic containers from fastfood cups, the clear ones..always repurpose and then ive saved money to buy new orchids and or supplies..i bought alot of sale orchids from supermarkets, the mark them down to 4 .00 ,some are in terrible shape, wrinkled leaves etc. And because i watched your videos and learned to immediately remove them from their death trap s..they are stuck in those peat plugs, and i find that the mini ones are shoved in peat moss.Usually the minis are in most need because they are in a peat plug and sphagnum moss and are over watered and easily rot.I also learned that if the sale orchids are not bought they throw them out! I was at the supermarket one day and "rescuded" 25 orchids..all sizes and colors. Some ,most had no flowers, and no ids so i gave them names to keep records and will be surprised when they begin to rebloom. Some have made mittens and are branching off on their spires. Some spires and flowers i did have to cut off and sacrifice to save the plant as i saw in one of your videos,i put the spikes in water and they bloomed! The orchid rehydrated after a few days ,but they have a bent shape now but are nice and firm and are growing new root tips on some and or new leafs.I "rescuded" them in december and now they are growing and recuperating. The orchids were very stressed out by many factors, but because of your videos I was and am able to bring them back to life.I have put many into water culture and found that some do better than others and again, the container size matters and their environment.my house is very dry so they like being in water culture and as it evaporates ,1 to 3 inches on glass beads or marbles,in glass jars, they get the proper humidity .i learned so much from your videos and love when you show all your other plants also..I am a beginner and always learning from you and from what other people post on your site.Thank you and your son! Keep up the great work!!
Emaan , you are great teacher! After watching a lot of videos by other Orchids experts and been confused as beginners, You gave me very good steps, easy and useful! I’ll follow up with your recommendation! Thanks a lot!
I just used this exact method with all 3 of my orchids. I never knew they should be re-potted right away. Thank you for the detailed information. 🤞fingers crossed they thrive.

OMG!!! You are the best thing it happened to me. Few days ago I bought a very expensive orchid ( 3 beautiful stems with lots of flowers). I did what you said, to check the insides, there were 3 orchids put together in one pot, most of the roots were rotten and the plastic pot was completely filled with a very wet sphagnum. My question is, do you use 3% Hydrogen peroxide? Thank you! You are great.

I have cut and washed in potassium permanganate and applied some ground up charcoal. I will do everything else and fingers crossed I can save her.
Hello Emaan! I love the color of your opening orchid. The pink/purple dalmatian spots! Lovely! I just started orchids and violets last year. I propagated my first violets this year, with my first batch in the GH right now. The orchids are not going as well. Root rot and fungal infections (I think) are most of my issue. Please do more video about roots, anatomy and proper moisture levels. Please!
You have such a kind voice. I think a person's voice says a lot about them. I'd bet you're a wonderful caring mother who has green fingers too! You are soo gentle, even with the orchids lol. Thanks for the videos.
I loved your video!😌🙏💖I have been using charcoal for fish filters into my phalaenopsis mix. I didn't know it kills fungi. Thanks for the tip!😘I'm using fungicide to clean my phalaenopsis roots. So far it is working well. It killed the fungi.
This happen to me for my 1st phalaenopsis i did a repot immediately found out the whole root system was rotten she was not doing well i was so stressed because i spent lot of money on it as orchids are very expensive in my country i lost 3 leaves and i decided to repot it again i replace spagna moss with coconut media and in 1 month she got 1 leaf and a root.
Hi, I love your videos! I know this one is 1 year old. Have you changed your technique? Is there anything that you do different now? Can you please do more videos?
Fabulous video Emaan, I love your orchid tips for beginners like me :) Can you use charcoal that is available for usebon a barbecue as that is the only type of charcoal I have seen here in the UK or maybe I can just buy charcoal capsules if I need them? I really wish I could buy some of your home made bark/soil as your orchids are so beautiful! Thank you for taking the time out from your family to make this video, much appreciated :) ♥
Love your informative video . Thoroughly and slowly explained, I am going to accept your concept, I shall buy one from Lowes and try this way. I have lost so many Phil’s after repotting. I am going to use the charcoal and keep you posted. Thanks much again. Cheers and happy growing.love🙏💕💕this video. I live in Sooth Florida with hot weather only? What kind of weather do you experience. Cheers again. . have lost so many Phil’s
I find your video very practical & informative. I can’t get flowers in my orchids & get root rot in many. I will try to boil my medium then. What shall I do with my Catleya leaves that turned black suddenly. I bought it healthy from the orchid show last January.
Wow! Thorough information and the patience to watch is well worth the effort. I love phaleonopsis. My other favourite is the magnificent 'Star of Bethlehem' orchid; a fussy and temperature sensitive creamy white flowered orchid. Perhaps you can touch on how to encourage flowers on the challenging epiphitic, Agraecums sesquipedelea. Just beautiful!
Thank u so much for ur information I was really worried for my orchid. I don't have any idea abut orchid .I just bought blooming orchid from store and kept inside my room ..now it's going worst the root was totally gray and roted Charcoal will be halpful for me .... Now my orchid will service .. once agan thank u so much ...
As the plant roots use photosynthesis (that’s why they turn green) they like to see daylight through the walls of the pot yes? So why place the clear pot in a ceramic pot , keeping them in the dark?
I let my phalaenopsis dry a bit, I waited too long to replant it and now that I was about to replant it I see some dead roots but mainly some black roots. Some are black in the central part and green at the tip. should I cut them all? not sure if it could be a fungus. A new root is growing and it seems there is a tiny black spot at its tip. All the aerial roots are healthy. Should I cut all the black roots and let the rest and all the aerial roots? Thanks for your simple but informative video!
Like your videos however. If we could get better lighting that would be the only thing I have an issue with. A top light that is above your videoing area and is super bright would be perfect.
Thanks a lot for the information. As beginners I want to ask you where can we get the sphagnum moss from and can we use the same medium for all kinds of orchids?
Hi, loved your video. I am from India. I was gifted a tiny orchid sapling with white-ish thread like roots. How to revive them? I don't want them to die. Please answer.
Hello I’m new to orchids. My plant is still in full bloom however I am concerned due to the following reasons… algae is growing on top of the moss, root rot is occurring, and lastly it is in a pot with one drainage hole. Overall the plant looks healthy but I’m sure the roots are suffering. Should I do a emergency repot in this situation? Since I’m new to orchids I fear that I may put my plant in shock.
Dear Emaan, I have just found your channel. I have to tell you how much I am enjoying it. The love you have for your orchids shines through and so they reward you with their beautiful blooms. I have always bought the orchids for their blooms and when they finish I throw them away. So now I have two which I will try to keep alive and get them to bloom again. One is looking very sick because when I checked the pot it was packed with moss and all the roots were dead or dying. I will now make some medium and plant in a transparent pot and see what happens. I’m worried as there are no roots. Do you have any advice? Put in greenhouse? I live in Sydney, Australia so I am in a nice climate...not much cold weather. Thank you again. 😘
Hi thank you for explaining. One of my Orchid get one of the leaves black spot then leaf turn yellow and then dry die. Then next leaf. I can't control it.
Thank you so much. Excellent video. Do you make your own charcoal? Would appreciate if you can share where you get pine bark (you need to boil it?), Charcoal , vermiculite and sphagnum moss. You always find economical sources. Thank you again.

Hi I was wondering what bark you use? Every time I try and find a good bark it’s ridiculously expensive or killing everyone’s plants or people reported it having mould in it. I’m just really lost as I accidentally overwatered my orchid and now I feel bad because it’s slowly dying.
Please can you tell me what is the bark that you use and where do you get it from???? It would be very helpful for me to know as my orchids are not happy in what I use
I have 6 orchids all potted in bark medium with spagnum moss, they are in clear vented pots as instructed to do in another video. All roots are black and dry on every single one however the plant continues to look really healthy. I water once a week as shown on a video. I have no idea why this is happening as I've done everything I've seen. What is causing this root rot and what am I doing to cause it ?
