    Hercules Movie Description:
Hercules is a 1997 American animated musical fantasy comedy film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation for Walt Disney Pictures. The 35th Disney animated feature film and the eighth animated film produced during the Disney Renaissance, it is loosely based on the legendary hero Heracles (known in the film by his Roman name, Hercules), the son of Zeus, in Greek mythology. Featuring the voices of Tate Donovan, Danny DeVito, James Woods, and Susan Egan, the film follows the titular Hercules, a demigod with super-strength raised among mortals, who must learn to become a true hero in order to earn back his godhood and place in Mount Olympus, while his evil uncle Hades plots his downfall.
Development of Hercules began in 1992 following a pitch adaptation of the Heracles mythological stories by animator Joe Haidar. Meanwhile, Clements and Musker re-developed their idea for Treasure Planet (2002) following the critical and commercial success of Aladdin (1992). Their project was removed from development in 1993, and Musker and Clements joined Hercules later that same year. Following an unused treatment by Haidar, Clements and Musker studied multiple interpretations of Greek mythology before abandoning Zeus's adulterous affair with Alcmene. The project underwent multiple story treatments and a first script draft was inspired by the screwball comedy films of the classic Hollywood era and popular culture of the 1990s. During production, McEnery, Shaw, and Mecchi were brought on board to revise Musker and Clements' script. British cartoonist Gerald Scarfe was recruited as production designer and produced over seven hundred visualization designs of the characters. Research trips to Greece and Turkey provided inspiration for the background designs. Animation for the film was done in California and Paris. Computer animation was used in several scenes, predominantly in the Hydra battle sequence.
Hercules was released on June 13, 1997, and received generally positive reviews from film critics, with James Woods's performance as Hades receiving particular praise, but the animation (particularly the visual style) and music received a mixed response. The film under-performed in its theatrical release notably in comparison to previous animated Disney films, ultimately earning $252.7 million in box office revenue worldwide. Hercules was later followed by the direct-to-video prequel Hercules: Zero to Hero (1999), which served as the pilot to Hercules: The Animated Series, a syndicated Disney television series focusing on Hercules during his time at the Prometheus Academy.

My favourite detail is that even though Hercules is trying to find where he came from, he never forgets the parents that raised him!

Also when the movie ends they're the first ones who reach him and introduces Meg to them.

It's also a really nice touch for his character too. Family is everything to him. He loves his adopted parents, but he loves his biological father too after meeting him. His entire goal isn't to be glorified, it's to find his way home. And having that, even in the background, shows how important family is to him. He stayed in touch and used a lot of his earnings to give them everything they probably dreamed of, because the money isn't what mattered to him. He says it later when he's upset how it's all just signs of how great he is, but the only thing that mattered to him was reuniting with his family even if it means becoming a god.

Danny devito is definitely singing. And the muses they actually had the women perform so they could accurately animate their movements as well as their clothing.
“I won’t say I’m in love” is my favorite song. And I have to say Hades is the best part of the movie. James Woods is so good. And you can tell he loves the role so much. To the point he came back for any iteration Hades was used for. He’s such a used car salesman douche.
Also also, love that they really had us believing that Zeus and Hera were good and loving parents, and Hades was the bad guy when it was the POLAR OPPOSITE. 😂 Hera literally ruined Hercules life in the mythology. And Zeus literally fucked anything and had mad illegitimate children. Hercules being one of them. Hera isn’t even his mom 😂😂
While Hades was a devoted husband and really stayed out of the shit. And just did his job in the underworld which was just monstrous amounts of paperwork. The most he did wrong was kidnap his life, but they ended up actually being a legitimately happy marriage compared to Zeus and Hera.

    • @jurtheorc8117
      @jurtheorc8117 11 місяців тому +6

Granted, Hera's got reason to be frustrated considering how promiscuous Zeus is and she's meant to be the Goddess of Marriage (if i remember correctly). SO she's in a rotten position, which while it doesn't excuse her lashing out to children, is deserving of *some* sympathy.
But when you've got something colossal like Typhon consisting of two snake tails for legs, hundreds of firebreathing beast heads, wings so wide that the shadows they cast make it night, and a beard/mane of even more firebreathing snakes, and also the father of most monsters in Greek myth and biggest threat to the entire pantheon just by himself, and THAT'S THE THING WITH A SOLID MARRIAGE...
the idea of divinities starts to lose its lustre.
      Reject Olympus, become monster.

The Muses were all stars in their own right when they were cast:
    - Lilias White (Calliope, the eldest Muse who possessed a great voice and was Goddess of Epic poetry and Eloquence...the tallest one with her hair up) - Tony Award-winning actress-singer in musicals like The Life (which won her the Tony), Dreamgirls, Hadestown, Cats, and Chicago.
    - LaChanze (Terpsichore, the Goddess of Choral Song and Dancing, in crop top and mini skirt) - won the Tony for Best Actress as Celie in The Color Purple, and did shows like the original cast of Once On This Island (as Ti Moune), Dreamgirls, The Wiz, and Ragtime.
    - Roz Ryan (Thalia, The Goddess of Comedy and Bucolic Poetry...the funny one) - mainly a stage actress with voice-over work in cartoons.
    - Vaneese Y. Thomas (Clio, the Goddess of History) - An R&B singer with several albums to her name, she also did voice work for the animated film Anastasia.
    - Cheryl Freeman (Melpomene, the Goddess of Tragedy...who kind of has the long Beyonce hair) -Another stage actress, but best known for her role in the original 1990s Broadway production of 'The Who's Tommy' as The Acid Queen (a role played by the late Tina Turner in the 1970s film version by director Ken Russell, which also starred members of The Who...Roger Daltry, Pete Townsend, John Entwistle, and Keith Moon.).
There are 9 muses in all...this film only used 5 of them, as the other Muses were more geared toward other arts than drama, music, dance, and song.

Ok, I ALWAYS hate when characters don't explain things. However, Zeus not explaining to hercules what a hero is is one of the few times that it makes sense. You can't just tell someone "Saving people just because you have to isn't what a hero does, Save them because you WANT to" because telling someone to want something just isnt how it works. You can't just tell someone to care about something and that just means they magically will. If Hercules knew he had to save people out of the goodness of his heart it would be far harder and would take far longer because he would still be saving people just so he could get into olympus.
Its a hard thing to try and explain, even i did a terrible job of it here. This is one of the few movies where a character just "not explaining" something that they could explain actually makes sense.

I absolutely love this movie! It's not even close to the Greek mythology story of Hercules but I actually like the changes they made. I'm glad they made it that Hercules stays with Meg and choose to stay on earth
Megs and Hercules love is literally the definition of true love. The fact that Meg dies for him is her way of apologizing and showing her love. And Hercules be willing to die to save her is his way of forgiving and showing his devotion and love. Also that Hercules choose to stay with her then be with the God's shows that he is different then other men. Most other men would choose fame/power over a woman
This is seriously top 3 favorite Disney movie for me

2:13 Speaking of Hercules and milk... That's where the terms Milky Way and Galaxy come into play.
Galaxy comes from the Greek "Galaxias" meaning milky way. It comes from a story about when Hera tried to breastfeed Heracles... and the little bastard bit down. Hard. So hard that she sprayed milk everywhere in the sky, and that is how the ancient Greeks explained what the Milky Way was, and why it has those names. Also the words lactose and galactose share similar milky etymologies.

19:06 Fun fact: they incorporated elements of Superman’s story in this:
From zero to hero, “Pa & Ma Kent” adopting him, him moving to the big city, his whole “sweetheart” persona, Lois Lane x Clark’s dynamic with Herc x Meg, meeting his biological father Joe-El (Zeus) in the fortress of Solitude, him giving up his powers, his little hair curl…
As a Greek mythology & DC fan, this makes me happy.
It’s funny that Hades is always portrayed as the “villain” in media when in Greek Mythology, he’s more of an introvert that likes to stay at home in the Underworld minding his own business and being a loyal husband to his wife Persephone. Zeus on the other hand…
Also yes, watch Clash of Titans!

In the beginning, Hercules was a demigod. He was the son of Zeus and the mortal Alcmene. He had superhuman strength and was known for his many adventures and labors. He became one of the greatest heroes of Greek mythology. He was granted godhood after his death and became associated with the Roman god, Hercules. He was worshipped by the ancient Greeks and Romans who believed he could protect them from evil. Also, Zeus had many other children that Hera knew about. Hercules had got his name from Hera, the jealous wife of Zeus. Hera had become angry with Zeus for having so many children and had wanted to punish Hercules by making him do twelve tasks. The tasks were difficult but Hercules was able to complete all of them and was eventually granted god-hood. He is called Heracles not Hercules as they both stem from different things. It is well known that Zeus never took good care of his bastard children, especially Heracles. He was only interested in his eldest, Athena, and favored her above all. Heracles was especially neglected and often had to face difficult challenges that Zeus set for him. This led to resentment between them and a difficult relationship. Hera often made things even more difficult for Heracles by trying to sabotage his missions. Her actions led to increased animosity between Heracles and Zeus, which put a strain on their relationship. In Heracles' case, he did have a wife, but his relationship with her was hurt as a result of Zeus' interference. Eventually, Heracles was driven to the point of madness and killed his own family, an act which he deeply regretted afterwards. The Disney Hercules is a happier version of the Greek mythological hero. He is portrayed as an ordinary teenager who goes on a quest to prove himself a true hero. He also has the help of his friends and mentors to help him on his journey.

It was the whole "I feel like I have potential" coming to something. Not going into all of the backstory where is was a effin god etc. The music don't hurt, though I do enjoy it more in Norwegian, but I guess everyone has that for their version from childhood..... For those that are grown now and still haven't seen it, I recommend to watch it in your own language if a dub is available, it will connect your culture better to the story.
