To be very blunt, I'm not sure he sees female characters as having much value beyond thinking about dating them, the way he talks about them. It comes off badly, to say the least.

For context, you should look at the history of Garlemald (from the time before they developed magitek), and how they were driven from their homes to where they live now because they didn't have magic and couldn't defend themselves. From the historical context, the Garlean hatred of Eorzeans is justified as, although it wasn't the Eorzeans themselves that persecuted them, they can wield magic just like their historical enemies could, which is why for Garleans it really is "better to brave the wilds than trust in their magic". Also, to Garleans the WoL is a legendary figure who they probably think is ten metres tall, can destroy houses with a punch, and wears a necklace of Garlean skulls. Most might think that the WoL's current look is him in disguise.
sadly, while the feud start with just between Garlean and those in Corvus (from which the Garlean were driven), their campaign grew to encompassed everyone, even on so far away from them yet are in the conquering paths. the fear and mistrust, while justified, also get ramped up to the scary degree.
@@tsuribachi The first Garleans lived in Corvos before it was called that, when it was known as Locus Amoenus (which is Latin for "pleasant place"), before the time of Allagan Empire. At that time they were little more than farmers, with no actual military might or magic. The ongoing fued with Corvos came much later in their history, after they'd been driven to the Northern wastelands of Ilsabard by successive people who wielded magic. Some of the Garelans tried to fight, and if you do the reaper quest line you get more of that history. The Kingdom of Corvos was founded after they were driven from their ancestral lands, so the area is probably a bit of a sore point for modern Garleans.
@@tsuribachi Well, don't forget one additional wrinkle to this situation..... Solus ensured the empire was built on the driving necessity of eliminating all Primals and ensuring they cease to exist. The danger a rampaging primal presents is equal to a placid one draining the land of aether, and so all who would summon Primals must be subjugated to ensure they are never summoned. Of course, we know that was really just a ruse to ensure conflict so the great work would continue, putting things in place to cause rejoinings. But you have to imagine the initial plight of Garleans has only a little to do with the propaganda Solus would have spread to spur this on in pursuit of calamities.

They are victims of propaganda and when that's all you know, your view of the world is very warped. They are in shock coming in contact with the rest of the world for the first time. Why should they trust when they've been told you're the enemy, here to kill them? I get the point you were making but Zenos actually IS there to kill people in Ala Mhigo, is the difference. He's an actual monster. The Eorzeans are boogeymen to brainwashed Garlean citizens.

Believing that your way is the only valid way is a trap, and will be in your way to ever understanding why other people want different things than you do. And pointedly, you are accusing the Garleans of that while doing the very thing yourself?
This reminds me how much I hated this part of the MSQ. They're at their lowest due to their own choices (manipulated or not, they still chose their way into a civil war) and are still too prideful to stop being biggots and accept help. And then I'm supposed to feel bad that their stupid choices led to their deaths? I'm more worried about how many innocent lives were lost during their "glorious" war, and suddenly were forgotten because "POOR GARLEANS!"
