I just wanted to say how much your videos help me. I'm 18 and started skating last year only using UA-cam to teach me. I now have my waltz, Salchow, toe loop, loop, flip, and I'm working on my Axel. While my spins are harder to learn I have a scratch spin and I'm working on my sit spin and haircutter. Thank you so much for your help 💕
I recently started skating as an adult beginner at 23 years, and I have found your videos very helpful! I would love it if you could do a video on power pulls as I just can't seem to figure them out :-)
I tried a camel and flying camel spin yesterday I did it but I definitely need practice. Could you do a tutorial on this please. Thank you for all your information it helps me immensely. ❤️😊
I gave up years ago on ever getting my loop along with any jumps after freeskate 3 level. It's always been difficult for me, I'm one of few, I think 2 at the time, left handed skaters at our club and no one was able to help me understand how to flip the steps for these in a way that made sense. Now 10 years later, with this video, it makes sense. I just want to build my muscle memory, balance, spins, footwork, and strength back before trying jumps again. I would love to finish out my levels for learn to skate and help my daughter learn them as long as she will allow me to teach her.
Well presented and explained in easy steps and progression. I love and appreciate your free content. Your tips for loop jump have helped me out massively. Please please cover rockers and counters. Especially as a cool 1 foot step sequence.
would you be willing to do a video/tutorial on forwards and backwards power pulls… i’m really struggling and your videos always help with other things i’m stuck on :)
Hi. Can you make a video of: 1. difference between ISI and ISU level? 2. I'm taking ISI but why my coach didn't teach me Tot 1-4 requirements? Why did they teach me pre-alpha straightforward? Thank you 🥰
I can answer one of those right now, Tot is only taught to people under the age of 5. So unless you were quite young when you started, you would always begin with Pre-Alpha with ISI.
I said this on one of your other videos, but I'm absolutely amazed at the similarities between skating technique and Argentine tango. I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to start skating where I live, but the similar mechanics will give me more nerve to try if they open a rink here. Meanwhile these videos enrich my technical appreciation for skating so much, because it translates to something I'm familiar with. P.S. Also, from one teacher to another, you're great at this!
When I try to do the loop around one of the circles on the ice I can’t but when I just do an inside three turn I can, do you know maybe what the cause of this would be?
I’ve recently started skating as an adult and I just can’t figure out this jump haha I can do it from inside 3turn but the backwards I need to be able to do for my next comp coming up in 1week
Oh it can be such a tough transition to do it from back crossovers. Set up tall and then only compress your knees when you are ready to take off. You want it to feel like a spring. Tall and then bend-explode.
0:50 I was like: oh good I have all those! Then you mentioned a good backspin.... that I don't have.. at all. I hate backspins. I'm having more luck learning my sit spin than my backspin😭
Oh no! Well, still go for this job you still should try to learn at, just understand it will be easier when your body has better mechanics of the backspin.
You do jump off the edge, but you also have to roll from the outside edge up to the toe pick as you take off. You should not be jumping flat footed, but pushing from that edge all the way up through the toe as you take off.
Why learn a loop from a fwd inside three turn, instead of back crossovers? In the slo motion you are taking off fwd, rather than from a back outside edge.
From the 3 turn it is much easier for people to understand the way the jump rotates. With the back crossovers it is more of a challenge to create the rotation. With my in-person students, as soon as they are fully landing from a three turn, I start working with them on transferring those skills to a back crossover entrance.
@@joannm.1756 I did as well. But we had to go the harder rout with a lot of things. As coaching ideas change, it gets easier to for skaters to learn things. I mean I never imagined I would see people doing quads, but here we are!!! 😆
I've been doing my loop from I3T but I think I am ready for the advanced method, however, ive been away from the ice year and 1/2, what do you recommend i should start with since I have rerurned?
ive been skating for 2 years now and we were doing a loop but it was so weird bc she let me end on my other foot? i was so confused bc have i been doing it wrong ??? then this other girl asked what were you guys doing so i tell her loop and she just kinda looks and says didnt look like it at all,. amd im so confused lmao anyone ever done this as well? bc ive never been so confused about a jump

Pretty impressive but you should definitely still get some sort of coach reviewing you on the ice
@@stillx1211 yeah when I have the time and money I'll consider it
Brilliant! I have an online coach reviewing my videos only.

Hey! Thanks for watching my videos! I just posted a power pull tutorial today!
It’s all about skating knee action and a quiet upper body, especially arms. Keep practicing-you’ll get it!
Omg I‘m 24 and I‘m starting skating soon! :D I‘m happy to see that I‘m not the only ne

I am glad you have enjoyed my videos. I will get to those rockers and counters, I promise!
Quick question, what are good exercises to do off ice to practice the loop jump. I feel I can't get enough height.
This was really helpful for my loop jump! When will you teach the full (not half) lutz, flip, and axel?
I am so glad you found it helpful! I do hope to get to those tutorials soon.
I've started learning the loop in the last weeks and I'd say backspin is another element good to have before this jump, helps with the entry.
Coach Julia for president! sharing her knowledge for free it's such a big gift for beginners like me!! Congratulations and thanks
Awe, I am so glad you are enjoying my videos!
So cool! Thank you! You read my mind, just yesterday I tried loop, your videos are so helpful ❤ what will be next? Maybe flip? 😁
Great suggestion!
@@CoachJulia thank you for this!!!! i'd love to see you explain the single lutz and how to do off ice jumps if you're able!!
2:40 so 1/2 prerotation is allowed?
You make elements look easy 😮

Excellent tutorial again Coach, what is a "tapped toe" or did I miss it? Thank you
A 'tapped toe' is when you tap the ice with your toe pick during the jump takeoff. So Toe Loops, Flips and Lutzes all have a 'tapped toe' entry.
Mesmerising
Thank you!
Thank you so much coach!
You're so welcome!

Do you have a video on inside 3-turn? I have hard time exiting on good outside edge and holding it 🤔

Hi Coach Julia.
I hope you are doing well...
If you need to take a break, it's all up to you.

Well maybe those will feel like an easier once you get to them! 🙂
I'm confused about the part where you jump off the toe pick-I thought you had to jump off the outside edge? Can you clarify?
You do jump off the edge, but you also have to roll from the outside edge up to the toe pick as you take off. You should not be jumping flat footed, but pushing from that edge all the way up through the toe as you take off.
@@CoachJuliaThanks so much for the clarification! This makes total sense.
Hi! I have a question, is it possible to perform single jumps with dance skates?
It is! I have seen it done.
@@CoachJulia Interesting concept. Ok. In my day (a loooong time ago), we learned from back crossovers.

Try some from an Inside 3, once they feel confident again, start working on it from the more advanced entry.

I can loop jump but not back spin 🤦♀️
Good for you getting the loop! Have you made any progress on the Back Spin?
@@CoachJulia yes, it's getting there. I have 8 months of practice since this comment. 😅
