  • Using Salt In Your Pond. How, When, Why and Why Not To Use Salt In Your Pond. What It's Used For, How Much To Use, And Pro's and Con's. It's all explained in this video. Salt can be used in both koi ponds as well as water gardens, but more care must be taken in water gardens because the plants are very sensitive to high salt levels.

Chris, I started my pond on July 5, 2023. So, far so good. I intend to run it as late into the season as possible, if not all winter long. I have used salt in aquariums over the years. This is my first outdoor pond. Built it myself. I would like to add salt. I found it to be beneficial in my aquariums. However, would u recommend doing so now ( First of October ) ? Or am I better off waiting til spring? 20:52 Also, I have plants that have started growing. I do want plants. Don't want them to suffer. My intent would be to go for a lower dose. Maybe the 1% that u mentioned. Ok thanks Chris, any help or insight u might be able to provide would be appreciated. Derek Drezek. Suffield, Ct.

Once I have my 3% solution of salt how long do I keep the salt in the pond during summer 90* air temperature.

Some people may keep that level maintained all the time in their ponds. I however would reduce the level after about a couple weeks or so by doing a couple water changes of 20-30 percent. It is important to keep the salt in long enough for the complete life cycle of the parasites that you are treating for. So as the eggs hatch, the salt is still active to kill the parasites before they lay more eggs. The salt is ok in hot weather, just keep the pond well aerated.

    When you say 3%,
On line Im seeing .3 and also 3.0
On a digital gauge am I looking for a reading of 3.0 or .3 ??

I'm not sure how your gauge reads, but 3% is .03 Just Add 3lbs per 100 gallons, or 30 lbs per 1,000 gallons. I like to add it in 3 parts. One part each day for three consecutive days. That is 1 lb per 100 gallons each day for three days. So after your third day, you've added your total of 3 lbs. per 100 gallons.

Can you drop down the brand of salt you buy from Homedepot. The solar water conditioning salt? Is the brand “diamond crystals”
