Never looked liked that while Jaque was alive. The people in charge of this wonderful piece of exploration and television history should be flogged for letting it sink and end up in this condition. My most magical TV time when I was a child was watching to see where this wonderful little ship was going next. Then she put in once in the Key West ship yard (now gone) on stock island with an electrical problem. My father was the resident electrician there and got to work on it. Fixed their problem and they left. It was a weekday. Had it been a weekend I might have been there to see it in person. Big disappointment for a 12 year old. When I found out she sank in harbor I almost cried. Felt like a part of my childhood had died. Hope she gets returned to her former glory.
I know the emotional response overrides the practicality. Why would you rebuild a research ship if its not going TO DO RESEARCH. Absolutely not practicle cost wise . If its going to be used for what it was built for OK. If not waste of money. Any body who owns a large piece of machinery like airplanes , boats , farm equipment , knows it takes large amounts of cash to keep them running.
Could you imagine for a minute that the restoration of the Calypso is complete: The countless children who would grow up to be researchers, scientist, engineers, and contributors to the world thanks to the inspiration of Calypso? Where is the restoration? Where is the Cousteau Society? This seed is dying and I wonder where they are?
What she and her captain has thought the world its a shame to see this magnificent ship steeped in adventure, during the 70s she was our sea adventure and televised classroom ...all of us should be ashamed to see calypso so neglected ...project calypso ago fund me why not
Latest news I found it is just rotting away due to non payment to the yard that was restoring it. Lots of legal courtroom drama (found in favor of the shipyard) so now she is a barely recognized skeleton rotting away.Latest news I found it is just rotting away due to non payment to the yard that was restoring it. I've seen the bio movie "The Odessy" (2017) I am deeply inspired. There's gotta be another way to make oil-fueled propelled exploratory ships into electrically-propelled ships today as they do with e-cars except with ships. That would eliminate a lot of the problems we have in the NOAA and waters today. Even electrical Hover ships can go across land amphibiously without having to tear up the land upon the islands from turbulent waters. I'm sure Nasa is getting ideas as I type this. That would eliminate the issue of breaking any part of the ship when hitting land in shallow waters such as the coral worlds of the southwest Pacific.

Que devient le bateau? Plus de nouvelles depuis des années. Où est passé l'argent des donateurs? Tout ceci ressemble fort à de la magouille financière. La mère Cousteau a certainement des choses à nous avouer.

How right you are and lovely sentiments, how shameful for those in charge of her keep

Anyone know the status of the Calypso restoration ? Seems to be nothing on the Cousteau Society that is current.

They basically replace the entire boat,so the original no longer is around.
no they removed the whole wooden layer of the hall
due to the collision
the whole wooden layer of the hall will need to be replaced with new wood

Jean-Michel Cousteau has visited Hawaii many times. Did the Calypso ever go there?
Печально, видеть корабль с такой историей в таком виде...

Ce bateau a-t-il finalement été restauré, voire remis en état de navigation ?
