Band Maid has a lot of prog elements in the music. I'm a 72 year old prog guy who has a gigantic and related Yes collection plus large amounts of other things. I love Band Maid.
Yolo is based on one of Kanami's piano compositions, so in a sense it pre-dates Band-Maid. There's a video that can be found on UA-cam of her playing it on piano.
Hey Dean, you react to some of my favorite all time 70's classic/prog rock bands plus BAND-MAID. There must be a connection there somewhere. BAND-MAID came to be out of nowhere and I now believe in miracles. Peace. 42.2
That second verse... I think the proggiest thing the girls have composed is the bridge of their song The Dragon Cries. Nice to hear Band Maid with you again! Thank you.
I know you have a separate video for the Live performance, but if you ever have the opportunity, check out the Shinkiba Studio Coast performance of YOLO. And pay particular attention to the left channel.
While I absolutely love the C-side of Yolo single, I also love Yolo for the wacky as 2nd verse! Also the recording quality is really good. The vocal is close to Saiki's live vocal. Happy birthday Sai-chan. Keep rocking!
Oh, and you're going to have to catch up on the uniforms. They've got new ones this year. They're even less obvious as maids, except Miku's. They're older and more mature so they've gone to a somewhat sleeker and more dramatic look.
About the chorus, I think you're on the right track. It does have an indie/alt rock feel to it. And it immediately struck me as unique and beautiful. It moves in big swings. I don't find it paricularly poppy--it's a bit melancholy but very melodic. Out of all the neat little things in this song, that melody line got me first.

I just LOVE Kanami's quick little swipes after her solo......she never leaves the smallest hole unfilled.

It's amazing how many guitar riffs Kanami can add to a four-minute song, not to mention the bass riffs, she is a genius.😲
Idk about beauty tips but Miku Kobato laid the foundation that make up the awesome BAND-MAID & that's a thing of beauty indeed :)
I can't imagine another band coming up with the instrumental parts that they do in the second verse. It's just unique and very cool.

YOLO -- You Only Listen Once, 🫨 and you've been Maid! 🎀😍🎀 Thx, Dean!
Do you suppose that even Robert Fripp might be impressed by Kanami's musical discipline and compositional detail? 🤔
I do

Still one of my top 15 songs. I can listen to it over and over because there's some many cool different things to focus on.
Instead of trying to pause on the exact millisecond between verses, just hit the left arrow button once. It rewinds the video 10 seconds. 😀
next time!

I don't if any of you heard already, but today's was Sai-Chan's birthday !!!!!
perfect coincidence. I can only think that it was meant to be.
