Shaham must have been 19 years old when he recorded this. He is a fabulous and very gifted violinist and always unassuming. There are several great recordings of this concerto but, unfortunately, it's almost never heard live. It presents great technical challenges and is useful for study purposes - expecting to present it in public is probably not realistic. TRIVIA: (1) There is another Israeli violinist named Shaham but he is a few years older than Gil Shaham and not as famous. (2) My grandpa wrote a piece for violin and presented it to Shaham's wife and she accepted it but asked him if he had anything for two violins because her husband was also a violinist. At the time, my grandpa didn't know that Gil Shaham was her husband (and she didn't tell him) so he forgot all about it. He said if he had known, he would have written something immediately and sent it along later.
Ray Chen just performed it live. There is also Camilla Wicks (with piano) and they are both electrifying performances. This was the recording (along with Perlman’s performance) which made me fall in love with this piece.
@@claudiaochoacruz Yes, I remember that. I think I made a comment about the acoustics? We might meet again since i often attend their concerts. :) Thank you Claudia!!
@@serodriguez Muchas gracias Sebastian!!! :) Me gustan mucho ambos conciertos! Es muy complicado encontralos, incluso me resigne a esperar el próximo concurso de Wieniawski para escuchar otras interpretaciones!! Que elegantes son estas composiciones!! Muchos saludos!! :)
