"She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man" gets my vote for the Biggest Hot Mess Anime of Winter 2022 based on how bad the last 4+ minutes of episode 1 was.
Oh man! I couldn't finish the first episode. The final five minutes of unexplained scenes sans dialog with music that didn't fit just pissed me off. I felt insulted lol
Ikr like did the person editing the audio just run out of time. So they were just like "eh sure lets just add some royalty free background music over that part. I'm sure no one will notice."
It is however the only series I think I've ever encountered where the people playing on a roleplay server actually sound anything like roleplayers talking about it after the fact. Maybe that's just limited perspective though?

I want to say I appreciate your positive and diverse interests that matches mine. So many content creators focus on just Shonen or just trashy stuff so having a very leveled and honest approach to the shows is refreshing.
honestly Akebi got straight robbed being put in the 'maybe' section. the animation isn't just great, it's kind of godly outright. like almost every frame is a painting and then it *moves* on top of that. i couldn't even believe how consistent it was. that on top of it being just so relentless wholesome and pure, just filling my cold dead heart with love. it's already given me an experience few anime have in just a couple of episodes. the feet whatever was basically not a thing from episode 2 on, and honestly let's be real anime have been pushing much much nastier fan-service our way for a long ass time. this is not the deal-breaker at all that it was portrayed as.
Im surprised so many people are talking about a BL anime like Sasaki and Miyano, i thought i was more of a niche genre. Not really my type of anime but still interesting to see the "hype".
Rust Eater Bisco is EXACTLY my kind of anime and I've missed that sort of desert punk aesthetic from older anime like Trigun and well, Desert Punk! lol
Self proclaimed Isekai savant here, I'm watching all the isekai I can this season, a few gems but a few busts. Knockout 1st ep was funny. Strongest sage with the weakest crest seemed to be trying to speed run every trope known to anime.
Its happening, i already watched pretty much everything that got out the past 20 years some shows more then 3 times, i read the mangas and even novels of the better shows, thers basicly nothing left beside the ongoing and new animes. I learned Japanese to read raws but thats still not enaugh, im losing my mind.
06:2909:58 I just find it funny that you showed two scenes from two different series of girls fumbling with their smartphones. If you could've found and added a third, it might be a running gag.
I'll admit, this season had started very...poorly, and as a result i was ready to just skip My Dress Up Darling but man am i happy i didn't. An absolutely outstanding opening episode and i already love the main protags
Please do a video on Sabikui Bisco! It falls into that awkward category for me of you described it really well and appealing *but* there’s one or two things that just push me away from it (in this case that it’s a post-apocalyptic/Sci-Fi setting, which generally is a genre I cannot stand). One more video may give me the motivation to watch, or a better reason to step away, and since previous anime in this category include both Oddtaxi (WONDERFUL!) and Wonder Egg Priority (dropped it less than halfway), I would really appreciate more detail on why I should check it out.
Currently mostly watching current stuff with the occasional couple of episodes of Bebop. Also rewatching Ancient Magus Bride and I'm planning on finishing Classroom Crisis at some point. The AMB rewatch is because I want to reread parts of the manga due to recent developments which referred to something that happened which I cant remember. Also the new OVA.
I forsee Leadale being my comfort food anime of the season. Silly isekai premise with an inoffensively chill plot, sorta like I Killed Slimes for 300 Years.
Ah, Girls Frontline. A very silly concept, which has a LUDICROUS amount of worldbuilding to justify it. For example, he's wrong, world war 3 isn't fought with T-dolls - They were developed BECAUSE WW3 happened alongside a zombie apocalypse, and there's just not enough people left to justify human soldiers being used if at all possible. But why are they all cute girls? ...They're not! Military dolls don't look even a little human! The protagonists are instead a bunch of domestic service bots retrofitted with combat mods by a mercenary company. Economical, and technically legal!
Sounds like a lot of plot to justify gameplay mechanics. I'm guessing the zombies are used for the PvE, while the rogue units are part of the PvP parts of the game. I started playing Princess Connect Redive after hearing good things about the show, and that has some of the most convoluted story I've seen. After the intro, there's a one month timeskip. When the story continues, all the other characters are already familiar with you, since you apparently spent that month meeting and getting familiar with 30+ girls. All without your guide Kokoro knowing about it.
I don't know how he can say something like "dumbest premise ever" when it's not even an original premise. The premise is "Chinese citizens: can we have that battleship girl anime? China: We have battleship girl anime at home".
I watched the first episode and was absolutely baffled on why anyone who hadn't played the game was meant to care about anything going on. I mean, I picked up that the protag squad was meant to be a barrier to entry for Sangvis... but with zero character introductions, zero squad backstory, and the completely disposable way they treated literally everyone else in the episode, they were kind of also a barrier to entry for watchers and the plot too. Bold choice for the series writers to alienate anyone trying to give them a chance.
Sasaki to miyano was really one of the anime I was looking forward the most, mostly because I’m trash for all this author’s manga. Their characters and sense of humor is just THAT good. Obviously because of what type of anime it is, the animation might not be as good as others and the rhythm might be a bit off sometimes, but the jokes always fall right, it’s very soft and the voice actors are reaaaaally good. Also you can see a lot of love and care went into the making of the anime, with lots of respect to the original book. Between this one, Given or donghua like mo dao zu shi, you can definitely feel how the BL industry changed and is still changing over the years (for the better)
@@AshCinis huuum I’m not quite up to date with all the anime and I personally feed more on BL with gen anime that give a lot of shipping content like sk8, or BL drama (like word of honor) tho there’s some old ones that might strike your fancy: - spiritpact: also a donghua with magic and the like. Enjoyed s2 more than s1 tbh. - doukyuusei the movie is very nice, I’m less found of the sequels. - kono danshi series: it’s a little hidden gems. Not for everyone tbh because it’s very peculiar both graphism wise and story wise. It’s 4 short movies (+ 1 bonus if I remember correctly) with each time a different cast and different story. 1st story is about aliens, 2nd about a mermaid, 3rd about a high school boy who as a jewel like illness and 4th a magician. Bonus story is about robots. Because each are pretty different you might like some and not the others too (personally my fave is the mermaid one ‘cause it was very soft) It’s been a long time since i’ve seen them so my opinion on them might change a bit but they’re pretty different from what has been done so far and I believe they’re worth checking out! I know there’s also the movie of twittering birds never fly which has been released in 2020 too but while I really enjoy the manga for the dark plot centred around yakuza, I didn’t watch it yet so idk how good the movie actually is. That’s kinda the only ones I can think of at the top of my mind right now, but I’ll add others if I remember them
@@lebonlucie510 Thanks for trying, I've watched all of these except for Spirit Pact and the Kono Danshi bonus thing. Do you know where I can watch that bonus? BTW the wizard one was my favourite, the merman one was my second favourite. Also I thought the wizard one was the 3rd one and the crystallisation one was the 4th one.
This is my first BL anime and I'm enjoying it. Gonna sound vain, but I was randomly looking at the winter stuff for Funimation and noticed that Sasaki's hair reminded me of Tartaglia's from Genshin Impact. Since I read Tartaglia / Zhongli stuff I figured what the hell, why not? This is cute and fluffy and awkward and all the feelings that having a crush--or dealing with the "OMG do I have a crush?" sensation should contain. The blond guy who keeps poking his snout in needs to bugger off. I realize he's as close as we've gotten to a conflict engine (I'm still in the beginning; we'll see what happens) but DUDE. Probably a mild hit of culture shock.
It’s also incredibly educational about cosplay as well as Gojo’s dolls. As a reader I can promise it’s wholesome and charming 75% of the time and super watchable ecchi the other 25%.
I'm so excited for another BL that doesn't center around rape and or toxic relationships, omfg. Given was a rare treat, I'm hoping Sasaki and Miyano is just as refreshing.
@@ovahlord1451 it's shorthand for Boys Love. They notoriously are depressing and have horribly abusive or rapey relationships - see the trash list for "The night beyond the tricornered window" which was really only rapey for the first two or so episodes before it turned out to be a bit wholesome, but also forgot it was a BL.
@@notationmusical I'm sad, I haven't gotten to watch the movie yet, just the one season of the anime. And honestly even that had some trauma in it, though thankfully it didn't relate directly to their relationship. But it's no BananaFish or most of the other things I've seen.
I definitely am giving Land of Leadale a watch from the first two episodes. The animation is rough, that's for sure, but the Protagonist and her family members seem to be a lot of fun. Plus, the MC feels a lot more natural in an isekai for some reason. Being trapped in a bed for years makes her finally getting away from that feel more deserved to me.
Lmao feels a lot natural?? Being a teen who only plays video game but acts like a parent? Yeah right. Her interactions with her children is also bland. She either tease the dwarf or beat up the two elf. That's the only interactions you can get throughout the series.
Watching the two episodes convinced me to pick up the LN. It looks like they trimmed a bit from what we've seen so far, but it didn't seen like it was detrimental (unlike two other adaptations this season). So I'm sorry, Anime Pope, but I must protest your feeling that this was insufficiently cute. I don't have 95 theses but something's getting nailed to the door of the Anime Cathedral somewhere.
Agreed. It doesn't feel like a generic self insert. Instead, it feels like an isekai with all the good parts (wholesome hangout with an op pt) with none of the weird creepy sexualizing stuff, aka the bad parts.
I don't know. I watched the 2 episodes and didn't really like it. It's a pass for me. It's just another in a sea of isekai. Not really good in anything and I feel it's not even trying to be.
To be honest I like that this is a slow season because the April season is going to be completely insane. Kaguya, Komi, Mob Psycho, Spy x Family, woa Edit: not mob psycho
ex arm best show, some people don't even inhabit the same dimension! don't let ex arm's amazing cgi distract you from the fact that bungee gum has both the properties of rubber and gum
Wait, I've heard that AOT might get a movie considering Part 2 will end on chapter 131. The rest of the 8 remaining chapters would take around 5 to 6 episodes. I don't think Part 3 might be a series but rather then a movie. Also yes, Ex-Arm S2 really NEEDS to happen.
I've been hyped for an anime adaptation of dress-up darling for so long but what really gets me about the anime is how well they've retained the art style from the manga, i still can't wrap my head around it. it was one of the things i wished for INTENSELY if it was ever adapted, mostly because of how GOSH DANG CUTE MARIN IS DRAWN a;ldkfksjd
My Dress-Up Darling had me hooked with just how wholesome and appealing it is to me specifically (a female cosplayer without a lot of cosplay friends or seamstress knowledge), so I'm really excited to see where it goes.
Currently watching Ranking of Kings and I can only recommend it. There are no words to describe the emotional rollercoaster the first few episodes were. You'll grow to love and root for my man Bojji
i read the Sasaki and Miyano manga and i love it to death, it got me laughing, crying, and blushing like a tomato at the same time. it's really fluffy and gives you this warm feeling inside. And if you like Sasaki and Miyano, read the spin-off "Hirano and Kagiura" featuring Sasaki's classmate/Miyano's senpai in the Disciplinary Committee, Hirano-san and his Kouhai/roomie, Kagi-kun
@@grandon4507 they're probably going to employ most of animation twitter again if it goes to that point. I hope they learned their lesson from the travesty that is WEP
I know that Akebi's sailor uniform is weird with the feet thing. But it has some really wholesome content that I'm otherwise digging. And just as you said, it's REALLY beautifully animated. Sabikui Bisko (as an extra tidbit to my comment) looks fuckin awesome. And I don't think they could've picked a better voice actor for Bisko. The deeper tone of his voice just fits the characters appearance and overall impression given in the first episode.
I mean feet is one of those things that unless you have a foot fetish, you won't find it sexual. so, unlike other kinds of fanservice, you either get good looking feet, or you just don't care. so I would honestly say that even the feet thing is not a problem to 90% of the people.
This anime made me pause the video multiple times because I couldn't stand the second hand embarrassment. Between those instances, it's really engaging, though. It really feels like they are children. I don't see how people get ecchi vibes from this.
The Toku heroes who appear in Kuroitsu-san (aside from the "main hero") are actually prefectural heroes who do live-shows and act as local mascots across Japan. They're all real and you can look them up.
@@hirokokueh3541 Okay, real quick; Sentai: Not a catch-all term for Japanese superheroes. It means "Taskforce" or "Squadron", so it could only be applied to teams of heroes and typically is used directly to reference the Super Sentai franchise which provides the source footage for Power Rangers. Sorry, minor pet peeve.
If you want a show from last season, all of "Blue Period" is on American netflix now. I don't know what the general consensus of it is, but I enjoyed it the entire way through, and now want a continuation. Also, watch Carole and Tuesday
They messed up the adaptation on two things. One is cutting out several important scenes from the manga and other is the animation. It's not the worst anime adaptation ever but it could've been a lot better tbh. Still the anime is worth it.
I was so pleasantly surprised by the first episode of "Miss Kuroitsu...". The writing hit way too close to home for anyone who's survived the business world. The laughs that writing elicited were greatly appreciated.
As someone with office work, I can totally relate to it, and I really appreciate Megistus' character as a boss. I hope Wolf-kun's character will be handled well, since he's basically a textbook case of gender dysphoria. It can be a perfectly fine source of humour - I think Wolf-kun having trouble choosing bathrooms was on point - as long as it doesn't cross the fine line between poking fun at Wolf-kun's situation and laughing at Wolf-kun himself, I suppose?
one thing I really love about it is how they keep things positive. like in the "Cannon" sequence, it didn't became painful to watch like Pentagon Wars, we get to see the actual opinions from other apartments.
Weakest Crest Strongest Sage is going on my "Biggest Disappointment" list. They're speedrunning so hard. Nothing will beat TPN's skipping a whole bunch of arcs. But Weakest Crest did almost 2 volumes of manga IN A SINGLE EPISODE. THE FIRST EPISODE! All characterization is out the window so they could start and finish AN ENTIRE TOURNAMENT ARC, IN A SINGLE EPISODE! At least there 9 good anime to keep my mind off of it.
I really appreciate you putting the list at the end of the episodes now. There have been times where something you recommended looked amazing but I had no idea of where to legally watch it. Please continue this.
Agreed! It helped me immensely! I just took a screenshot and saved it instead of going back through the whole video! Saved a lot of time. Thanks, and I hope you continue to do this!
I finally got around to starting Ranking of Kings last week and dang... I did not expect the places this show seems to be going at all! An outward expression of heartwarming inspiration with a deep seated core of creeping existential dread.
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley the latest episode had me shocked that even tho Bojji is said to be ridiculously powerful, there were peeps that actually represent a threat. And given that this show does not joke about how powerful or dangerous someone is, it makes a little worried for the little guy. I just want to see Bojji get a few wins ya know.
Ditto on Ranking of Kings and i honestly think WIT has produced a show that will go down at the very least as a generational classic if not one of the greatest shows of all time. This story telling is on point, the characters are all compelling and the animation... well, it's WIT so 'nuff said. You go into this show thinking it's a kid's show and it will rough your feels up real good. The pt 2's season opener is an absolute banger and *DEMANDS* to be respected. If you don't, you're a bad person and worse than all the people who doubt Prince Bojji. If you don't know the story so far and watch it, it's an exception will crafted opening. If you *DO* know the story so far, every other shot from the opening is a gut punch. And if you don't feel anything when you see young Miranjo appear in the magic mirror, you are a monster that throws kittens into wood chippers and are beyond redemption. You need to watch Ranking of Kings. Geoff (edit: misspelled his name, my bad) needs to do a review on the second opener for the series. That is all.
I saw an ad of a japanese song called "BOY" by King Gnu, I absolutely LOVED the song it slapped ass for real. Then I read the comments and said that its from an anime called "Ranking of Kings". I checked it and I was a bit hesitant to watch it, cause it looked like a cartoon instead of an anime. And I didnt. But now I think Im planning to, would it be worth it?
@@yesyouarecorrect1315 absolutely. It's far more than just an art style, really well written. Go three episodes, if you're still not in then drop it but I'm firmly on that hype train personally
A friend has been waiting for Sasaki and Miyano for a long time, and her enthusiasm made me so excited for it. I honestly love the manga and can't wait for more of the anime.
Sasaki and Miyano already looks amazing! It is paced out really well just like the manga is and I can already see the set up for some of the payoffs to come!!!
I love the Manga and I'm so glad It got animated, it's a very cute show a la given (even though Given is seriously damn good and not that comparable) with slow burn non fetishizing BL and their relationship development is just so believable so I'm pretty hyped for the series.
I remember reading My Dress-up Darling and being pleasantly surprised with how wholesome the relationship was between the MCs, despite the horny-ness. They are quite cute together
Just me staying helplessly in love with Case Study of Vanitas this season ngl. It's a new work by the mangaka who made Pandora Hearts (which I was so into in my teens around a decade ago), so it just feels like it's bringing my youth back bishounen boys and all.
"The Genius Prince's guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt" is also a pretty good show too this season. It's basically Realist Hero, except played for laughs and with writing that isn't horrible.
Realist Hero seems to have pretty solid writing in the LN from what I can tell. Though I've only read the first 2 volumes so far so that might change. Was the anime poorly written?
The show has a lot of convenient writing. Mostly the story and all the characters bending over backwards to make the protagonist Kazuya Souma seem like the most competent and intelligent person who has ever lived. To accomplish this, they don't have Souma do anything particularly smart usually. They mostly just make everyone in the show unbelievably stupid. But when Souma does do something smart, they show him doing the smart thing, and then explain how he did it after the fact. So it feels contrived. Every woman in the show falls all over him when he tells them obvious advice or ideas. Sometimes he knows things it makes no sense for him to know. Like the recipe for Roman Concrete. Who the heck just knows how to make obsolete building material from 2000 years ago? This show has a real hard-on for Roman Concrete by the way. The Author read a wikipedia article about Roman Concrete and didn't fact check it. So there is actually a huge percentage of part 1 of this show where characters are talking about how Roman Concrete is the ultimate building material and how all the myths about Roman Concrete (that have been debunked for decades) are true.
Yeah I was thinking how disinterested I was in watching more realist hero when I saw genius prince and watched ep 1 to find that it had all the kind of good stuff for realist hero but the core premise and writing was actually pretty funny and way less cringe than 'reading Machiavelli is sufficient qualification to run a country'
@@yourethatmantis5178 Is that the Light Novel or the anime? because from the sound of things the Light Novel isn't like that at all. This is pretty common with anime adaptations of an LN where the show will dumb things down so much just to fit the runtime that they end up skimming over important details and context. Whereas in the LN things are way more fleshed out.
Thank you! "Organic" is exactly the word I was looking for to describe how the characters have been shown & developed in the first episodes of My Dress-Up Darling. Very reminiscent, including in quality, of Horimiya. Can't wait to see you eviscerate some of this season's sewage at the end of the cour, though.
Fun fact: the music composer of Sasaki and Miyano is the same person who did Rakugo Shinju. Also, PLEASE check out Girl from the Other Side. Technically, it's a winter anime, but it comes out in March.
To add to list, "police in a pod" is a really good anime made by madhouse and it's seinen so the writing is really good, comedy is ok, i don't know but it feels nice to watch
@@Hromovlad1 even then, that says nothing about the quality of the writing, there are some very poorly written seinen that pale in comparison to even basic shonen. On the opposite side you've got shonen that rival even the best seinen in terms of writing, Hunter x Hunter, Chainsaw Man and Death Note (even if I'm not a fan of it myself) are pretty good examples of shonen manga that have great writing that stand up to the best seinen. Even something like One Piece, which seems basic on the outside has writing and emotional peaks that very few mangas match. Seinen and shonen are just categories that yes define the target audience, but just because something is aimed at younger people doesn't mean its writing is weaker or that it takes its audience for idiots. Heck one of the most revered shows ever is Avatar the Last Airbender and that is enjoyable at any age and initially aimed at kids. I wasn't actually asking what he meant by the initial statement but implying that it is derogatory and short sighted
@@Big_Dai the story only reveals as much world building details as it thinks we need, it's clearly very character focused. I don't understand your view I found the anime amazing so far because I found the characters incredibly lovable, compelling, and complex
Here's my personal list from this video: Actually pretty excited to watch Sasaki and Miyano (the BL one), we really need more sweet BL anime! If Tokyo 24th Ward doesnt fall off, then it sounds like a great watch. Sabikui Bisco sounds cool, will check it out. okay yeah that's it. I am also excited for more Case Study of Vanitas, Ranking of Kings, & Demon Slayer. (and maybe also Ancient Magus' Bride S2? The first episode came out for that, but nothing else. And it's been a while. So is that actually gonna come out??)
Fantasy bishoujo oji-San is 1 of the best anime this season and no one will watch it sadly. The manga is so funny and good and the 1st episode was a good adaptation
I have absolutely loved the manga of Sasaki to Miyano and the anime adaptation has been my most anticipated of the season (other than aot). It truly is wholesome and heartwarming, a strong recommendation if you are looking for something to read!
Somehow Leadale is the only show I'm actually sold on this season. It seems like a really fun, chill watch with a lot of personality and I enjoyed every bit of the first two episodes so far.
Akebi-chan seems like one of the most interesting types of SoL CGDCT shows: those who have a hidden darkness laying beneath the surface. Just wish that the characters weren't fucking 12 years old. It feels very alarming to me.
Another one you might wanna watch would be ‘The Genius’s Guide to Raising a Nation out of Debt’ on Funimation. Based on the 1st Episode the concept of a prince that doesn’t want to be in charge and wants to sell off the kingdom for a life of ease, only to fail successfully and have his kingdom get better just seems like it’s entering Konosuba levels of funny.
I am not entirely sold on that one yet, but if they keep up at the gag of, "Suffering from success" successfully in the future episodes, I might keep watching it.
@@RKNancy They've already skipped the first bit of that from the LN. How did he get the troops trained and armed by the Empire? He basically presented it as a the first step to merging their forces. There was going to be more to it, and lots of his troops getting the short end of the stick later, but then the Emperor, who had been getting better, fell down dead and everyone is congratulating him for conning top tier training and gear out of the empire and not having to pay for it as they're too busy with the fight between the three male heirs to the throne. There's also a princess, but she should be showing up shortly so I'll let the show cover her when it's ready.
The only thing I can think with the premise of Fantasy Should, is that it would be so nice if the main character just came to realize that he was actually a trans woman and she has a happy life at the end... Maybe that's just my trans ass projecting, though? Lol
I was surprised to see it on Crunchyroll after being exclusive on Funimation for a whole season. As it stands I'm willing to bet this is going to be happening a lot more now that Crunchyroll is owned by Sony.
If i must add, even though it wasn't mentioned in the video, i have to say, Vanitas no Carte is certainly another anime on this season you should look out for. Personal opinion here
I am so hyped for Dressup Darling getting an adaptation and if the quality of the first episode continues it is gonna be totes awesome. Also damn, just when I had finished up a good deal of shows you throw a bunch new ones at me. I did not even know Vanitas continued. Well, at least it is still early in the season and I can finish some more before it gets too much.
I know it's late, but I finally watched another anime you recommended: Vivy. It's really cool, but the subs on Funimation were awful, so I feel like I missed out on some of the subtleties in it's themes. Characters are great, animation is great.
The subtitles having to point out which waifu Riko is at 13:00: made me giggle and wish people who didn't have closed captioning on could see it. I can't explain _why_ I found that detail funny, but I hope other people do too now that I've pointed it out!
Am I the only one who likes watching these videos almost mostly just to see what gets said about what you're already watching and liking anyways? I go into these hoping I maybe find one new anime to watch, while really just wanting to hear things I already like getting praised in potentially new ways. Glad to see Fantasy Knockout getting some well earned attention, it has great comedy and as a manga reader I can tell you it just gets funnier from here. (Dress Up Darling I am also a manga reader for, and man am I eating good lol) On a different note, if only the other isekai I'm watching this season was doing as well as Fantasy Knockout. Leadale as you said is a cozy show that needs a nicer coat of paint, while Pupil of the Wise Man...... I can see charm in, but my god was it terribly ugly. Watching it felt like the team working on it has a small group of people who really wanted it to be good, while everyone else couldn't be bothered to put in the slightest modicum of effort. Stuff like the mc being an overly dedicated roleplayer was actually interesting and fun, and the dynamic between him and the king, who is his real life friend, was actually quite fun to watch. If the whole show had been like the scenes of them chilling and talking together, I would have actual praise for it (to an extent). Sadly though, it then swapped to one of the ugliest CGI fights I've ever seen (and I've watched Spider), and then for some reason swapped to being silent for a montage. And yet, nonetheless, there were random actually interesting things in there, such as the mc summoning an angel or whatever just so she can sing his favorite anime insert song over the battle in universe, and the cat summon actually being cute/funny, but those details that could have made for a super engaging first battle, instead just were brief moments of good stuff in a pile of rotting garbage. Even the weird montage could be considered a brave choice, but it was also not a particularly good one, despite the well done set of actions showing mc figuring out that the world is real. Again, like 10~20% of the episode was actually funny, the dedicated RPer mc and his slightly less dedicated friend, the NPC companions that MC is sad aren't creative enough, and the fairly interesting vr world concept were all quite good imo, but it just wasn't enough to save it. Also, I feel like I need to mention - if other people *didn't* find the banter between the MC and the king fun, was that possibly just a thing for me cause I watched the show dubbed? The va for the king is the same one as Asagiri Gen from Dr. Stone in the dub, and I found every scene with him in it quite fun. Well, either way, at least Pupil still won't be the worst show of the season, cause Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest does still exist, in all it's "bruh mc is like 30 and this girl is 12 why is the MC getting flustered looking at her and calling her beautiful" and "woah, Devilis is actually a demon?!??!?" glory.
My Dress-Up Doll won me over with the first ep but lost me a bit on the second one. Like I appreciate the male protagonist isn't a bland stand-in for the audience, and I'm always interested in characters that have unusual trades or hobbies, but spending an ENTIRE episode with the guy just going "awuuhhh?? huhh?? bluhh?? i c-c-c-can't touch a g-g-g-girl" doesn't bode particularly well for the pacing that the story's going to have.
Really? I was cracking up the entire episode. And this is coming from someone that's not a fan of fanservice. But, I hope the third episode is better for you if you decide to stick with it
Started watching: ▪Dress Up Darling (love it so far) ▪Cue! (hasn't awed me but I'll stay tuned) Thanks to this video, adding ... ▪Sasaki and Miyano ▪Sabikui Bisco

I'm currently watching My Dress-Up Darling and it's been fun. When I saw the initial trailer, I gave the manga a whirl and I loved it. The anime's been doing a pretty good job so far and I feel like I know a pretty good place for the season to end. While it won't be out until Spring 2022, I'm excited for Love After World Domination. It's a tokusatsu parody but the main premise is that the main hero and one of the minion commanders of the evil organization are secretly dating and it's super wholesome and hilarious.
once again thank you very much for laying out the promising stuff for this season! i never rly have the time to do the digging myself so being able to spend 30 minutes of watching this video to find out there's A FRICKING MUSHROOM BASED APOCALYPTIC ANIME WAITING FOR ME is perfection!
If we're talking upcoming stuff, Orbital Children by Mitsuo Iso of Dennou Coil fame is coming out at the end of the month. That's definitely the most exciting anime of this season for me.
Glad to see Miss Koroitsu getting some love. and Land of Ledale got alot better in the 2nd eps with the intro of the main chars kids! :) also Freaking Princess Connect season 2! Looking even better somehow!
I really wish they'd given some of that animation budget from that feet fetish anime to Requiem of the Rose King instead. Such a good manga that deserves a just as good anime adaptation. But it just shows how little the anime industry will give a shoujo series, even a top tier ones like this one.
I was really disappointed by My Dress Up Darling. The first episode was amazing, and it went straight downhill from there. It feels like in the later episodes the ecchi is there for no reason other than fanservice, and I count myself praying for someone to make an edit where its ecchi free because I really love these characters and the actual. Yknow. Plot.
I hope, after viewing the other 10 episodes, your opinion has changed. Episode 2 was COMPLETE fanservice, but it settled down after that. Episode 12 is so far away from episode 2. . .
@@foxgodrecords2752 one of the best animes out this year definitely. That fireworks scene and the scene in the hotel literally dropped my jaw to the floor lol
@ requiem of the rose king: "probably just read that manga" yes. I discovered this recently and it is the best historical manga I ever read. That is, it accurately depicts how shitty humans really are, which is p much history. Read it if you're a history fan!
"She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man" gets my vote for the Biggest Hot Mess Anime of Winter 2022 based on how bad the last 4+ minutes of episode 1 was.
Yeah it's getting a special spot in the trash roast for that
Also the CGI battle scene was embarrassingly bad
Oh man! I couldn't finish the first episode. The final five minutes of unexplained scenes sans dialog with music that didn't fit just pissed me off. I felt insulted lol
The last 4 minutes only? The entire episode was just awful and boring smh

I’m finally getting around to watching golden kamuy after being in my queue for a couple years.
Rust Eater Bisco is EXACTLY my kind of anime and I've missed that sort of desert punk aesthetic from older anime like Trigun and well, Desert Punk! lol

Police in a Pod, World of Leadale, Sabikui Bisco seem to have some potential for decent shows see how they go.
Bruh the car scene with Hinata Tachibana 😭😭
06:29 09:58 I just find it funny that you showed two scenes from two different series of girls fumbling with their smartphones. If you could've found and added a third, it might be a running gag.
I'll admit, this season had started very...poorly, and as a result i was ready to just skip My Dress Up Darling but man am i happy i didn't. An absolutely outstanding opening episode and i already love the main protags
Ooh, points for the use of ffxiv music during your "the cool one" segment. Nice
Holy crap a call out to Dualists of Roses? I spent like 2 years of my life on that game
I forsee Leadale being my comfort food anime of the season. Silly isekai premise with an inoffensively chill plot, sorta like I Killed Slimes for 300 Years.
4:48 So, a bit like The Warriors, but with cyberpunk and baseball?
I think we are stuck in 2020. It's Groundhog Year instead of Groundhog Day we are stuck in. :P
Spot #10 belongs to The Legend of Vox Machina. I don't care if it's made in America, it's an animation that promises to be amazing.
Economical, and technically legal!
that sound ridiculous and also amazing
@@nathanaelwaters2509 my thoughts exactly, it's so bizarre
I'm so excited to see where the BL genre goes, the quality has certainly been drifting up
Do you have other recommendations for good BL anime? I loved Given and MDZS (and the other 2 donghua by the author of MDZS).
@@AshCinis huuum I’m not quite up to date with all the anime and I personally feed more on BL with gen anime that give a lot of shipping content like sk8, or BL drama (like word of honor) tho there’s some old ones that might strike your fancy:
- spiritpact: also a donghua with magic and the like.
Because each are pretty different you might like some and not the others too (personally my fave is the mermaid one ‘cause it was very soft)
It’s been a long time since i’ve seen them so my opinion on them might change a bit but they’re pretty different from what has been done so far and I believe they’re worth checking out!
My Dress-Up Darling is also a Seinen, so the writing is more nuanced and thr characters are more than just their tropes.
Seinen? Alright I'm sold
So there will be zero romantic development and permanently be will they won't they.

Wats a BL?
@@ovahlord1451 it's shorthand for Boys Love. They notoriously are depressing and have horribly abusive or rapey relationships - see the trash list for "The night beyond the tricornered window" which was really only rapey for the first two or so episodes before it turned out to be a bit wholesome, but also forgot it was a BL.
Although I liked Given, there was *that* scene from the movie that was uncomfortable.
So even Given isn't safe from this.

It’s a great light novel series, I recommend reading it!

Sabikui Bisko (as an extra tidbit to my comment) looks fuckin awesome. And I don't think they could've picked a better voice actor for Bisko. The deeper tone of his voice just fits the characters appearance and overall impression given in the first episode.
People are really sleeping on Akebi's soundtrack. Its incredible. Well, aside from the god-tier animation.

I finally got around to starting Ranking of Kings last week and dang... I did not expect the places this show seems to be going at all! An outward expression of heartwarming inspiration with a deep seated core of creeping existential dread.
Sobbed like a baby when Kuro stopped treating Bojji like a jerk to become one of the few people standing in his corner 😂.
Fun fact: the music composer of Sasaki and Miyano is the same person who did Rakugo Shinju.
Also, PLEASE check out Girl from the Other Side.
Technically, it's a winter anime, but it comes out in March.
Wait GFTOS is getting a anime!!!! It’s one of my favorite manga!!! It’s so good please everyone read it
Ranking of kings is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Good
To add to list, "police in a pod" is a really good anime made by madhouse and it's seinen so the writing is really good, comedy is ok, i don't know but it feels nice to watch
what does "it's seinen so the writing is pretty good" even mean?
@@lightbrand_ the target audience are adult men, rather than teenage boys, and so they treat their audience as such
@@Hromovlad1 even then, that says nothing about the quality of the writing, there are some very poorly written seinen that pale in comparison to even basic shonen.
Can I just say, your script is amazing. The way it subtly flows into the next anime, and the way it involves the audience, its all amazing
People need to watch and appriciate ranking of kings. It will rule your heart
This. I did not expect to love it as much as i do
It's been decent.. nothing actually memorable.
I expected it to be have more world-building, lore and content.. it's been like "two places"
@@Big_Dai the story only reveals as much world building details as it thinks we need, it's clearly very character focused. I don't understand your view I found the anime amazing so far because I found the characters incredibly lovable, compelling, and complex
Here's my personal list from this video:
Actually pretty excited to watch Sasaki and Miyano (the BL one), we really need more sweet BL anime!
I agree, seems like it will be slept on, the first ep. was really funny.
Good to know that it's being adapted nicely so far.
I have absolutely loved the manga of Sasaki to Miyano and the anime adaptation has been my most anticipated of the season (other than aot). It truly is wholesome and heartwarming, a strong recommendation if you are looking for something to read!
By the way Princess connect re:dive is also one anime to watch, with even better graphics and the characters as dorky as usual
If them being 12 is alarming for you - maybe the problem is in you.
@@TsubakixRitchu it is not alarming simply because they are twelve, it is because of the things they are having them do.
Commenting to save this series for future reference.
Lol
I'm looking forward to Case Study S2 and Sabikui bisco looks really good 👍I'm also looking forward to Demon Slayer and quite a few others.
Personal opinion here
He tends to skip second seasons and focuses on new series.
14:42 she needs to unironically win best girl in the next anime awards….
This anime season is very Gender. I hope the total knockout one winds up being a "discovering I'm transgender" story.
(Dress Up Darling I am also a manga reader for, and man am I eating good lol)
On a different note, if only the other isekai I'm watching this season was doing as well as Fantasy Knockout. Well, either way, at least Pupil still won't be the worst show of the season, cause Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest does still exist, in all it's "bruh mc is like 30 and this girl is 12 why is the MC getting flustered looking at her and calling her beautiful" and "woah, Devilis is actually a demon?!??!?" glory.
its always good to see sasaki and miyano appreciation
Already feeling My Dress-Up Darling will be my anime of the year. What a bloody strong start
I agree. The manga is spectacular, and the anime is very good so far
Akebi's Sailor Uniform's transparency in its steadfast interest in the bodies of 1st year high school girls is fascinating but horrifying.
definitely pedo foot fetishists. avoid
I've just finished watching the 8 released episodes of saibuki bisco and it was terrific, im so thankful for this recomendation
Likely next Takt op destiny, both are debut, have promising start, very popular, but after eps 6, it became downhill
But, I hope the third episode is better for you if you decide to stick with it
It's the longest "ecchi" scene in the manga. The male lead will become more comfortable with her very soon.
Been reading Dress Up Darling for a while now.
It gets DEEP into cosplay. There’s a bit coming up where Gojo learns how to make cosplay props.
Started watching:
▪Dress Up Darling (love it so far)
▪Cue! (hasn't awed me but I'll stay tuned)
Thanks to this video, adding ...
▪Sasaki and Miyano
▪Sabikui Bisco
Sasaki to myano was great as a manga is cute and chill but very very fun, I love the clean style
I was JUST watching your top 5 worst lmao
My dress up darling
Sasaki and Miyano
Life with an ordinary guy
Leodale
Strongest sage with the weakest crest
Sabikui Bisco
Akebis sailor uniform
She professed herself pupil
I was expecting the Tarantino joke but the nickelodeon one caught me but surprise. Well played Geoff. Well played
Me: casually looking for anime recomendations
- 18:30 happens -
Me: wait...wtf...are those machine guns mounted on hippos?
I'm currently watching My Dress-Up Darling and it's been fun. When I saw the initial trailer, I gave the manga a whirl and I loved it. The anime's been doing a pretty good job so far and I feel like I know a pretty good place for the season to end.
While it won't be out until Spring 2022, I'm excited for Love After World Domination. It's a tokusatsu parody but the main premise is that the main hero and one of the minion commanders of the evil organization are secretly dating and it's super wholesome and hilarious.
Oh, I'm now excited for that too since that sounds like My Shit
Made in abyss will come out SOMETIME this year. Excuse me, but my anime lobe is a little full of IRYUUMI.
once again thank you very much for laying out the promising stuff for this season! i never rly have the time to do the digging myself so being able to spend 30 minutes of watching this video to find out there's A FRICKING MUSHROOM BASED APOCALYPTIC ANIME WAITING FOR ME is perfection!
Gotta say, I really appreciate you highlighting some BL. Us gays have been starving in the yaoi desert for too long
If we're talking upcoming stuff, Orbital Children by Mitsuo Iso of Dennou Coil fame is coming out at the end of the month. That's definitely the most exciting anime of this season for me.
I'm throwing "Hakozume: Kouban Joshi no Gyakushuu" into that last segment as well. To anyone interested in Japanese police and policewomen.
I read My Dress-Up Darling a while ago, I'm glad to see it's turning out to be a good anime adaptation!
Glad to see Miss Koroitsu getting some love.
and Land of Ledale got alot better in the 2nd eps with the intro of the main chars kids! :)
also Freaking Princess Connect season 2!
@ requiem of the rose king: "probably just read that manga"
yes. I discovered this recently and it is the best historical manga I ever read. That is, it accurately depicts how shitty humans really are, which is p much history. Read it if you're a history fan!
