Um wind in your face , it's best to be well before daylight the most deer activity daily all year long except extreme heat first two hours and last two hours of every day bank on it get up and out of your truck to a blind or stand those deer are seeing and smelling you and just moving out of your way or sight. Thank you for your appreciation for us vets. The only shot that I got on Veterans Day was the flu shot! Rifle season comes in on Saturday, Nov. 18th in my home state of VA. I plan to be there. My deer steak reserve is gone. Only burger, stew meat and jerky meat left. Time to try to fill some tags.
I have hunted 4 days so far and only seen 2 deer , no luck . Back at work this week . Hope to try again this weekend . Alabama regular gun season starts the 18th . Deer will move better then .
What are shooting hours in Maine, sunrise to sunset? Starting last year our big game hours changed to half hour before sunrise until a half hour after sunset. Great in open hardwood or fields but it's still pitch black in a lot of the places I hunt!
It's the same here. 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. I agree, in a lot of places it's too dark to see to make a safe shot except fields, etc.
Well my buddy got a nice 8 upta camp. My other guy had 3 does go by him and I had one come over a hill and got about 10 yards and then blow. It busted me! I was bummed because I have a doe tag but couldn’t get turned around fast enough to get a shot. Oh well… see ya next year Maine! I’ll be back before you know it!
Something to keep in mind, you saw no deer but they saw and or knew you was there.. You are in there home.. Happens every time we go out.. That’s how close success is…

He must've been bedded where I saw him because I was in this spot for almost 2 hrs and decided to take a stand. Then I saw a deer. He must have stood up. He started feeding about 100 yards away. Watched him for 30 minutes and when he started walking away, I gave a couple doe estrus bleats. He turned back, but wouldn't commit. He's big for a reason. He walked off and permanently etched in my brain. 🤦🏼♂️😖🤷🏼♂️😊
