He's from The Germs, and played a significant part with Nirvana in the later times, oh and was the original Foo Fighter's lead guitarist, but left as they broke big, but Dave wanted him back. Glad they were cool and kept Chris Shiflett on leads. All 3 guitarists have their role, now. It's a good thing.

I feel so shit, like I'm basically waiting to die. And then out the corner of earshot, I just hear this FUCKING MUSIC. I hear Dave Grohl saying these exact words to me... It was so weird hearing him from so far away, but it was so loud I could hear it so clearly. And all I could think was man... THESE GUYS ARE FUCKING KILLING RIGHT NOW. I was feeling so shit, on my own in the middle of Reading festival (I am forever soured off festivals lol) in a tent, and this song came on and made me feel so much better... When he was saying "what if I say I'm not like the others" I was like man... that's so me right now I wouldn't actually trade that experience for anything. Hearing this INSANE live version alone during the festival when I felt just at my lowest... was a very unique experience. Almost spiritual. It was like the song was written for me in that moment.
He was also the drummer on qotsa songs for the deaf album and it is rumored he drummed for ghost at some point. But uh. A shit load of people would have known. There's a reason "Dave grohl looks like the drummer from nirvana" is a meme
