Fantastic Climb of Lindal Bank by 8F 48151 (July 2007)

Onboard footage from 14 July 2007 and a Cumbrian Coast Dalesman railtour promoted by Kingfisher Railtours and operated by West Coast Railways from Carnforth to Ravenglass (thence Sellafield for turning). The video begins as 48151 departs Ulverston following a passenger pick-up stop and resumes the climb of Lindal Bank, which is largely at 1 in 80/82. The 8F was in excellent form and in typically assured style blasts up the bank superbly, with 11 on and no diesel. These were halcyon days, when you could happily film from the train and enjoy pure the sights, smells and sounds of steam in all its glory.

Great stuff David, terrific sound-scape from the 8F. Indeed, the slightly happier times when hanging out of the window to scoop up the last bit of the experience was acceptable........

Yes definitely a no-nonsense machine Austin. It's a shame that so many have pooh-poohed it over the years on account of it 'not looking right on a passenger train'. Perhaps those same folk now wish that it was running.

Thanks for posting this David, it's a great reminder of the sure-footed 8f in action and happy days on the Cumbrian Coast. I hope my last trip behind her from Preston to Shrewsbury and back wasn't the last we'll see of her in action.
