As someone deeply interested in learning about the Bahá'í Faith and having attended several Ruhi Classes, I now have a comprehensive understanding of why the Bahá'í Faith rejects nationalism as a barrier to global peace. I appreciate how you distinguished this rejection from the concept of healthy, intelligent patriotism, emphasizing that the former, when taken to extremes, can hinder unity and harmony among nations. Your insights have further enriched my perspective on the importance of transcending narrow nationalistic identities in favor of a more inclusive and global vision of peace. Thank you for delivering such a thought-provoking and enlightening talk.
It was this emancipatory message, one that embraces our commonality as one species, that attracted me most to embrace the Cause. Thank you for this enlightening talk.
Such a sound analysis of why nationalism functions as barrier to peace. The problem is right before our eyes, and all we need is the will to change the status quo.
Not quite, Maria. Please take a letter: Half way thru the video when asked what concrete measures Baha'is are to take in order to make the oneness of humanity a reality, Navid expounded once again on the oneness per se. To his credit he didn't institutionalize anyone by directing us to the Four Core Activities (important though they be) or the copious expounding associated with them in a zillion House documents my lawyer asks his attorney, and our facilitators, to decipher. 😀 A little glint in Navid's eye let the cat out of the bag in that he rambled for a bit and then rightly and wisely en route to airing what will actuate the oneness of humanity referenced the Faith's preeminent pronouncement to the peoples of the World, i.e. THE PROMISE OF WORLD PEACE. Essentially PWP inerrantly lists the fundamental Baha'i principles, one by one, as THE panacea for what ails the world - provided we Baha'is live the said principles. PWP in its briefest paragraph uniquely deploys the imperative and the superlative wed to the urgent as the solution sought by Navid's interviewer: “A fundamental lack of communication between peoples seriously undermines efforts towards world peace. Adopting an international auxiliary language would go far to resolving this problem and necessitates the most urgent attention.” Universal House of Justice, 'The Promise of World Peace'. Silly me. Does that instruction about urgency apply to Baha'is too? How about the individual followers of Baha'u'llah who framed PWP after they step out of the Supreme Body and resume their home life?
The idea of abandoning nationalism is attractive on the paper. If one nation follows this ideology, will be swallowed by major world powers. Practically the concept of removing the nationalism can be refuted by looking at the realities of our time. Collapse of the soviet union created so many independent countries with different cultures. Yugoslavia also split in multiple varieties of nations who are entirely different......So in practice the number of independent nations with their own nationalism is on the rise.
These talks are so informative and bring to fore clear solutions to real world problems. Thanks for sharing them.
