I really appreciate the nuanced view that patriotism can be positive, and the articulation of nationalism as "patriotism run amok".
A fair minded and wise seeker of truth of any ontological, epistomological, rational, phenomenological, methodological inclination, ought to be wise and just enough that in the search for the true reality, puts aside own's autonomous intuition's veils of judgement as much is expecting other's observe as such, even as a Baha'i. While criticism of views should be limited to a critical view of one's own beliefs, so the unity in plurality can be created in this covenant, without the condition for possibility of happening, with the world, and in the World.

Oneoness of humankind is such a healing idea as far as rethinking world politics is concerned.
Of the 3 EVILS listed by Shoghi Effendi, i.e. Nationalism, Racialism, Communism, Navid's is by far the most difficult to 'sell' in the West - in our era. Trust me, I know a bit about 'selling' the uniquely Baha'i principle of a universal auxlang to influencers, Baha'i or not, in lands anglophonic. What foils Nationalism is BaHoLa's teaching on the Oneness of Humanity! While visiting the country manifestly destined to lead the world spiritually, Abdul Baha unequivocally announced in the superlative: “Unless the unity of language is realized, the 'Most Great Peace' & the oneness of the human world cannot be EFFECTIVELY organized.” “Therefore, THE VERY FIRST SERVICE [Hello!] to the world of man is to establish THIS auxiliary international means of communication. [WHICH?] It will become the cause of the tranquility of the human commonwealth.” Abdu’l-Bahá to Esperantists in D.C. 'PUP' page 60. Ho, hum, too many superlatives & imperatives for Anglos? Let's c His talk(s) in Paris-France: "The greatest means of progress towards the union of East and West will be a common language. It will make the whole world one home and become the strongest impulse for human advancement. IT WILL UPRAISE THE STANDARD OF THE ONENESS OF HUMANITY." Great exchange. How about explaining how idea of nationalism and statetism started?
He has a video on realism that explains exactly what you are looking for.
What a lecture. Indeed, international relations theory produce a kind of knowledge practice that privilegess warfare.
Such a sound analysis of why nationalism functions as barrier to peace. The problem is right before our eyes, and all we need is the will to change the status quo.
Not quite, Maria. Please take a letter: Half way thru the video when asked what concrete measures Baha'is are to take in order to make the oneness of humanity a reality, Navid expounded once again on the oneness per se. To his credit he didn't institutionalize anyone by directing us to the Four Core Activities (important though they be) or the copious expounding associated with them in a zillion House documents my lawyer asks his attorney, and our facilitators, to decipher. 😀 A little glint in Navid's eye let the cat out of the bag in that he rambled for a bit and then rightly and wisely en route to airing what will actuate the oneness of humanity referenced the Faith's preeminent pronouncement to the peoples of the World, i.e. THE PROMISE OF WORLD PEACE. Essentially PWP inerrantly lists the fundamental Baha'i principles, one by one, as THE panacea for what ails the world - provided we Baha'is live the said principles. PWP in its briefest paragraph uniquely deploys the imperative and the superlative wed to the urgent as the solution sought by Navid's interviewer: “A fundamental lack of communication between peoples seriously undermines efforts towards world peace. Adopting an international auxiliary language would go far to resolving this problem and necessitates the most urgent attention.” Universal House of Justice, 'The Promise of World Peace'. Silly me. Does that instruction about urgency apply to Baha'is too? How about the individual followers of Baha'u'llah who framed PWP after they step out of the Supreme Body and resume their home life?
The idea of abandoning nationalism is attractive on the paper. If one nation follows this ideology, will be swallowed by major world powers. Practically the concept of removing the nationalism can be refuted by looking at the realities of our time. Collapse of the soviet union created so many independent countries with different cultures. Yugoslavia also split in multiple varieties of nations who are entirely different......So in practice the number of independent nations with their own nationalism is on the rise.
Oneness… needs to invite “nationalism” to a dinner party with Non-Duality and help the division’s dissolve…✌🏼❤️🙏🕉
Impressive. Well done and concise talk on Nationalism.
How can the the UN's abetting terror be removed?
It was this emancipatory message, one that embraces our commonality as one species, that attracted me most to embrace the Cause. Thank you for this enlightening talk.
Thank you for creating this series of talks. They are clear, concise and rationally grounded.
Love listening! Such a wonderful view that gives us hope how to bring this distraught humanity together.
As someone deeply interested in learning about the Bahá'í Faith and having attended several Ruhi Classes, I now have a comprehensive understanding of why the Bahá'í Faith rejects nationalism as a barrier to global peace. I appreciate how you distinguished this rejection from the concept of healthy, intelligent patriotism, emphasizing that the former, when taken to extremes, can hinder unity and harmony among nations. Your insights have further enriched my perspective on the importance of transcending narrow nationalistic identities in favor of a more inclusive and global vision of peace. Thank you for delivering such a thought-provoking and enlightening talk.
Best professor I’ve had by a long shot. I’m super happy to see these lectures online
It's so interesting that a state can have a personality disorder. And its terrifying that the abstract and defective state has absolute control over the individuals who live within its borders. Surely there is a better way than this justified abandonment of our fellow humans to the psychopathic state.
This is a timely debunking of realism. Indeed, as you suggest, if knowledge is policy practice, then how can a more peaceful world materialize if war is all we contemplate as knowledge-practice.
It is as you said "mind-boggling" for us as intelligent human beings who are created in the image of God in this day and age of modernity, wasting money and energy to defend ourselves against our supposed enemies. Let's hope we will not end up with a catastrophe to come up with a solution to this never-ending armaments by nations to fight each other instead of working together to bring peace and prosperity to all humanity.
Violence is always unnecessary. It only destroys, doesn't build. None of us like being destroyed. It's so basic, yet people let their emotions get in the way and get angry then resort to violence. Fighting is what apes do. Are we not better than apes?
Impressive lecture on realism and your point of view of what is wrong with our current extinct political system. Much to be learned by our supposed public servants to bring about peace and prosperity to our world.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for helping me to know more about politics, Navid🙂 i didn't know that politics is an art instead of a science
This is a powerful condemnation of realism and in general internarional relations theory.
Congratulations for the channel professor Great lecture
Thanks once again for bringing this information to our attention
Feminism has such a potential to contributing to the cause of global peace.
Such a hands on discussion of Islamism. Thank you.
Loved the comparative analysis. Brilliant discussion.
👍👍👍
This guy is my professor what a guy 🐐best on campus
to// Navid Pourmokhtari what's your nationality ???
This was such an interesting account of Islamism. Qutb is most certainly the key figure responsible for developing it.
This talk seems to have come from the Writings of the Baha'i Faith. Baha'u'llah has stated that when women attain the same position of authority as men war will cease. It's the same reasoning that is presented here. One of the teachings of the Baha'i Faith is the equality of women and men. The soul has no gender. All the world religions say "Thou shalt not kill. Yet due to a lack of faith in religion wars persist.
This is a great, nuanced presentation of the Baha'i Writings. These quotations and ideas are critical and timely if we are to move towards world peace.
All good principles, and accurate perception of events, but without God there's no hope of anything better. Because it's all caused by sin/devil.
I found your lecture very helpful and clear. Thank you very much.
Going over Dr. Esslemont and Shoghi Effendi's remarks side by side was most interesting.
Look forward to seeing more of your videos. The comparative analysis of the three texts is so well presented.
This is such a balanced and fair analysis of the liberal discourse.
This is an impressive analysis of the Baha'i approach on the theme of global order. The way he deconstructs the Writings demonstrates his exceptional mastery of the topic.
This is such an original and comprehensive lecture. Impressive how he cites all these complex texts from memory.
Why did he misquote the guardian? "...incur the wrath and chastisement of GOD"
Thank you Navid !
A genius! Great talks!
Wonderful talk! Thank you!🏵🌹
Excellent presentation! Would love to hear more of your talks!
