My grandmother was born in 1890. When I was young she told me she started using vaseline on her face as a young woman. She passed at age 75 with NO wrinkles on her face. Staying out of the sun was a big factor but the use of vaseline I believe gave her that smooth, gorgeous skin. I have been subscribed for a while because I positively love your tell it like it is when it comes to not over spending on skin products. This blew me away that you are recommending something my grandmother knew about over 60 years ago.

I've always used Vaseline for my lips and to take eye makeup off. I've never understood the hype around other products. I guess I'm cheap. It became kind of a joke with my daughters because I never went anywhere without my little jar of Vaseline. I kept it at my bedside for dry lips. I use the generic version - petroleum jelly. Petrolatum. It’s even cheaper and it’s the EXACT same thing. I also love petroleum based balms and ointments. Aquafor, cerave, and cetaphil all have amazing versions. Even aveeno has a wonderful baby balm that’s mostly petroleum jelly. My favorite is A+D ointment, and that includes lanolin. The lanolin might be an allergen for some people, but for those who tolerate it, it’s the best. A+D makes the most difference in my skin.

He also spent his life enjoying a variety of sports that kept him outside a good amount, even in his 80s. One thing that he swore by was Vaseline. He said it really made a big difference to his skin, and said that he thinks it better than anything else. Vaseline is not a moisturizer, but it will certainly help keep your skin looking young because it is a barrier. I will definitely keep Vaseline as a staple for my skin.

I used to be a Cosmetologist, and was taught to never use Vaseline or Baby Oil on your eyes to remove makeup. Your eyes can’t breakdown the oils, and over time can cause some real problems. There was this lady that had to have eye surgery to remove the oils and she almost lost her eyesight. I use a cold cream to remove my makeup it also removes waterproof makeup. I like to use a Toner after just to help remove any excess makeup. Please be careful with your eyes.

It relieved the dryness and my skin was baby soft. Also use it on my lips and cuticles. I use waterproof mascara a lot, when watching tv or reading in the evening I put Vaseline on my lashes and after about 20 minutes I can remove the mascara with a tissue. No raccoon eyes and I never loos any eyelashes.

The one way I need to be careful with it is to not use on too much of my body at one time. It occludes the cells from breathing for a short time so I overheat it I apply it all over without care. I layer skincare at night and use a moisturizer last. If I want to apply Vaseline very last, do I need to wait for moistirizer to absorb and dry a bit first? Also, is it best to get skin damp before applying vaseline?

I have been using Vaseline on cuts and scrapes on body and it works so fast to heal and prevent scarring. The only thing I use now for skin healing.

Neosporin is mostly Vaseline anyway. It even says it on the tube. Which I was surprised.

I am 78. My Mom used it for as long as I can remember...so do my sister and I. I also use it under my eyes, over a gentle eye cream.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ponds cold cream. But they’ve changed the formula so many times over the years. I may just have to switch over to petroleum jelly. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi! I do use vaseline for many of the uses that you mentioned. I was considering getting the Cereve Healing Ointment instead for my over night eye and slugging routine. Do you think I would benefit from that product more? Or should i just stick with the Vaseline :). Thank you :)

I use it to take off waterproof mascara but mostly under my eye where my seasonal allergy makes 1 eye tear constantly. The skin gets so red & irritated. Vaseline really helps. Actually put it on my whole face last night on a whim. Felt a bit greasy!

Those with sensitive/reactivate/break out skin, did this work? I've brought it, just spent sooooo much money over the years in skin care and had such issues, this was less that 2 bucks... but does it work or did it cause break outs? Thanks in advance dolls xoxo

Hi Dr Locke… I recently read that Vaseline or petroleum jelly is really bad for your skin. I never know what to believe anymore. Do you as a doctor really know if its harmful or not? Thank you
