So Many Huge Vintage Shops in One Place! | Antique Shop with Me

- There's no missing this place, so how did we miss it for so long? Not many antique places are right by the confluence of two huge freeways, with a giant sign to boot! Chattanooga, Tennessee's East Ridge is a long-established antique destination, and we're just starting our journeys there in this video.
East Town Antique Mall is our destination today, chosen because we found an amazing lamp there a very long time ago and hope that lightning could strike twice! It's a large, established mall at the center of this overgrown antique plaza, with so many great old things--and a few vintage pieces that are hot new collectibles.
An Eickholt paperweight from 1996 and Heisey Glass from 1896 vie for attention, while displays of banks and ashtrays, Rosemeade Pottery and some unusual coffee services offer great variety (Lenox decorated with butterflies...and spider webs?). Granny's rockin' uranium glass lamp, a 1950s drug rep swag piece by an unexpected maker and a crazy Victorian oyster juice bottle are fun and novel discoveries, not surprising in an antique mall I first visited in a prior century.
Heritage looms in Chattanooga, and our drive-through of the Chickamauga National Military Park gives a glimpse into a place whose bucolic face belies the carnage that took place here at one of the most strategic sites of the Civil War. We speak of the scarcity of things we see in the park, in the context of what they say about the people and circumstances of that horrific time.

When you post a vid, it makes my day! Ty, George!❤❤❤
Funny how 60's and 70's is so collectible. All I know is that when I first went out as a college student in 1969 we used orange crates for shelving and cinder blocks and boards for bookshelves. Hmmm I wonder if those are collectible! Everyone had plants and terrariums.
Hello from Michigan
Looking forward to being there in September!
Buying pink might not be such a bad idea now that Barbiecore has hit big. The pink phone would be great!
I've been saying! I think it'll hit for at least awhile, I saw a set of pink cookware in a department store recently
Pretty sure Le Cruset is out there in pink. I am thinking there is going to be a good bit of pink and Barbie stuff out there. For some it will be the new Barbiecore thing, for older people - the nostalgia. I had Barbies, but was never a collector. They were for play. Right now I have a bid in on a That Girl doll. She was my hero when I was a kid trying to get to Broadway. Brand new - not sure what it's gonna cost me - but it is calling to me. 4 day estate auction.
Would you ever consider telling us your fans, where you will be so we can " run " into you, by accident on purpose.😊
I'm happy to say when I have a public event! I'm in Centralia, WA this Fri/Sat for appraisal fair, in Marshall, MI Sept. 13 weekend for 'Tique Stock II and appraisals, then selling at Springfield, Ohio extravaganza Sept. 20 weekend
September 13, 2023 is a Wednesday not a weekend. Did you mean the 15th?
@@cherylmellblom5471 I did
@@TheAntiqueNomad Gah!! I’m working Friday/Sat… do you have a website or newsletter that lists stuff like that??
@@GrannysGarage333 I try to post to community tab when I have an upcoming event
That butterfly set 💞💞💞💞
Loved the history lesson, also. Thanks, George!🩷
My pleasure! I had fun with it too
We went to Rock City in the ‘70’s, when I was a kid. I should say almost went…we parked and back then they would come by your car and put a bumper sticker on your car. Just as they did and moved on, my baby cousin got sick all in the backseat and we had to leave! But we at least got a bumper sticker! My dad used to laugh and tell that story a lot, much to my now adult cousin’s chagrin! 😅
Thank you for showing the Civil War history. I always leRn from ypu.
I have family in the area and have been to the antique shops more than once. I find the battlegrounds sobering and sad. Glad to see it all again!
Yes they are, it is an awe inspiring and stark contrast to think of what happened there and how different from the park-like nature of the battleground today
I love it when you show us the area you are in and share history of places as well as items.
Thanks! I’m glad people are enjoying that it gives it more context
You are my favorite "arm chair traveler", in addition to all of the great vintage finds and information.
George, you sure do a lot of traveling. I bet you have so much fun.😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you for the added history tour. Very interesting and informative ❤
Did it feel eerie at the battle site. The Roman coliseum felt very eerie.
I bet it really did, it just looks that way! I find the Civil War graveyards (like at Andersonville) really affect my emotions, the battle sites look like parks so it's a little hard to imagine now how it felt at the time
Loved the civil war area footage. I live near spfld il. Land of lincoln. Camp butler national cemetery is neaby. A prisoner of war camp, now a veterans cemetery. Lincolns home, tomb, presidential museum..also a frank llyod wright home, the dana- thomas house. Lots to see ! Come one. Come all. We need the tourists. !
Thanks for the Civil War history lesson! I am glad to see that those monuments are still there and haven't been touched or removed by certain people that would like to see our nation's history erased.
Hi George. You are more fun than a barrel of monkeys. I took had that game. I was pretty good at it. Lol!
Agreed
Touch and Sew is the only sewing machine I would ever own. I love mine so much that I bought a spare for parts.
Cool! I buy and sell them often, they're great and well made
Touch and Sew used to be industry standard. I have owned mine since about 1966.
Fun video George! Thanks for sharing!
A HUGE Thank you for the OHME porcelain (Old Ivory) shout out in the video! As one of the few remaining collectors in the Ohme collecting group we appreciate the bringing attention to our beautiful Ohme porcelain. Love your videos!
Hi George, I follow you everywhere you go.I am happy to see you in Chattanooga, I grew up about a mile away from where you are. I have to say Chattanooga is a beautiful city. Happy travels ❤️
Great historical site content too!
I have been looking for that exact rocket bank for a while. This is the first one I’ve seen since 1960. (8:30)
George! I wished I had known you were in town, I would have loved to have seen you again. Oh well, maybe next time. 😺
The best Roseville fakes I've seen were of the Monticello pattern done by the Japanese. If you were just looking at pictures, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference, unless you saw the inside or bottom.
Hi George. Loved your video. I’m always amazed at how much info you have on the tip of your tongue. Happy travels to you from Texas
Thank you for taking us along. ❣️
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
I found a “See Rock City” Barn Birdhouse at a yard sale on Bainbridge shortly after moving to WA in 2013… being a TN gal you know I had to have it!! Lol
Interesting how popular the glowing glass has become. Don't really feel it myself.
I loved the russian lacquered box!
Our Christmas in Sydney are just like what your going through. But I understand how unusual they would be for you.
We celebrate Christmas in July’s here too just to experience the cosines of snuggling in for a celebration.
That sounds lovely! I go to Florida in Winter so I understand the "summer time Christmas" feeling. Great to have you join us by the way!
Love that amber swag lamp.
Thanks George..great video as always❤
I love those Burmese glass pieces, but I'm a sucker for anything with ombre. When I looked it up on eBay, I noticed there's someone who makes light switch covers out of broken uranium glass. Super cool!
"For $325, you can do whatever you like" ha ha
I also love the WMF pieces. Are you familiar with Ruskin? The factory was located right by where my husband grew up. The Denver Art Museum has an amazing Ruskin pottery display.
Oh neat! I've heard of Ruskin but only have seen one piece. They should get credit for those mottled glazes, way ahead of their time
@@TheAntiqueNomad I think their pieces are so gorgeous. From the Wikipedia: "When the studio closed in 1935 the formulae for the glazes and all the pottery documentation were deliberately destroyed, so that the unique Ruskin products could never be replicated."
Silesia - definitely Poland now. Part of Germany between 1792 and 1918 or so, from when Prussia and Russia chomped up Poland between them with the Poles having no say. 10:02 A local antique store had the exact same kiddy desk, right down to the green slag glass.
I should be getting dishes washed but I am very into reviewing You videos 😂
Lot of lovely pieces
That stevens and williams was a nice piece if the condition was all there...not too many of them with birds
Thank you for pronouncing cloisonné correctly. I don’t know how many resellers I watch on You Tube who constantly mispronounce it like cloy-zon-ay. I know it’s not a big deal, but it really irks me every time.😂
Ha so funny that there were two “Bluey” figurines from Australia in one of the cabinets. It is a kids show here in Oz. I wonder how they got to the US.
Absolutely Love the history lesson and of course your knowledge of all the vintage/antiques is always astonishing! Thank you so very much for posting this.
Chinking is what they put between the logs and log cabin. Dual Royal Doulton not Dalton like the Dalton Gang seen Rick Steves tours the factory in Europe that's how you pronounce that I assume they know what they're talking about being with their the factory❤
That Fenton custard lamp was amazing. Thanks for sharing this place George ✨✨✨✨✨
I have often visited Blue Licks Battlefield in Kentucky .
I remember buying Barrel of Monkeys for my little brother one Christmas back in the late 60s. (Coast to Coast hardware always sold toys at Christmas.) It’s also the store where I bought my own Penguin Server less than a decade later. I guess that means I am vintage, along with a lot of the things I own! I also own a covered wagon lamp that was owned by my father-in-law, and it still works. You press down on the wagon tongue to turn the light off and on.
My sister and I were just there! Our favorite places to antique! It would make my year to run in to you!
Great video George! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I'm always glad when you get to see them
Hi George! From st pete
My home away from home!
@@TheAntiqueNomad yup…
Thankyou for your videos! Very helpful 😊I may have a military cannon or marble bullet? Not sure. Where can I find out. No luck so far. Thnx. 🔆
Love the celluoid toys - who didn't try to swing over the bar?
That's right!
Good evening, George! I'm fighting the urge to collapse, just so I can be here for your premier 😆 That oyster-shaped glass bottle is something I'd be quite interested in having. I liked the fish bank the best of the ones there. I have one of my granddad's block planes. I'd like to have some of the old moulding planes. The little yellow chair the applied flowers piece was setting in really interested me. Was it an old one? OMG! I remember the pineapple drink set, too. The one we had was yellow and green. I had a Barrel of Monkeys when I was younger. I REALLY liked that intricately carved folk art box! Heisey is my favourite in clear glass. For me, Heisey is the pinnacle of clear glass. I'm not all that fond of it in the coloured glass, though. Loved that Bohemian vase with the handles! If I had to put something in a drawer, I'd find a place for that piece. There were many items of interest for me there. The tour of the battlefield was quite interesting, too. Thanks for taking us along!
That is so kind, I know you work awfully hard so I hope I can at least lull you to sleep! The oyster bottle is one of those "ugly" antiques that are really fascinating and I would gladly have. The fish bank was my favorite too, although I almost bought the buffalo. That folk art box was so documented that if I was actively collecting, I'd have bought it! Barrel of Monkeys...I remember how the expensive toys sat there on Christmas while I played with them...think that annoyed my parents.
Heisey is so good and it's sad that younger people don't know it, their clear particularly was good (although I admit I did like their flamingo pink). The handled Bohemian vase and the WMF piece were perhaps my favorite things in the store. I'm glad you enjoyed!
@@TheAntiqueNomad Isn't it funny how kids seem to enjoy the less expensive toys over the expensive ones? 😂 Mom said I would rather play with jar rings and other things, from the kitchen, than a lot of the toys I had.
Heisey needs to be promoted more than it is. It is exceptionally good glass, especially the clear, and it is the "clearest" clear glass, to me. I'd love to have a Heisey beverage set in the "Colonial" pattern. I'd want the simplest pattern, so it shows off the glass more than a pattern. I just don't have another inch of space for another beverage set.
@@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS I understand! I have a colonial ball pitcher that no one will buy but it’s beautiful!
@@TheAntiqueNomad If I only had the space! As of right now, I think I have about 55 beverage sets, (full-sized and, I think, four or five child's sets), I think four table sets, three berry sets and two or three decanter sets. It's unbelievable at how much real estate all of that requires to display. I've always wanted a Heisey "Colonial" beverage set, but there's just nowhere else to put another set. Moving from a 5000 sq. ft. house to one half that size, and combining what Mother already had here with what I brought that I wanted to keep, puts quite the damper on continuing to collect things like those sets. If I ever find a place to put a Heisey set, though, I'll be after one, for sure.
@@CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS you did pick large items by collecting water sets but so neat to see! I empathize with the downsizing dilemma
Hey George from up in WA! You should be close to if not here by now.
Been down for two weeks so am not caught up on newest videos.
I'm looking to see if I can still get a booth @ fall Custers.
Still do love your videos & your abundance of knowledge about most everything old & older!
I learn from you every video I watch & I usually have to tell everyone I kno & some I don't kno about what I learn from you!
Hope all is well with you.
Take care
Take care!
You should be able to get into Custers! I'm so glad you're enjoying this and thank you for spreading the word
George ...on the turquoise painted table, would it be worth it to buy it & strip that turquoise paint off of it & then put a clear coat or a coat of stain & then clear coat on it? Or would it mess it up even more? Seen a couple things like this @ sales this summer & wondered about stripping them But wanted to ask you first cause you'd kno!
I would absolutely do that if you have the wherewithal! Some paint comes off easily and some is horrible to remove
@TheAntiqueNomad I've stripped some older furniture but it's been years & it was a real pain. But I'm thinking with the modern stuff if we can find the painted pieces it might be worth it to redo it to bring some $ back to the piece. Great idea for winter projects when there's no sales to go to! Thanks George!
😅❤👍
Hi George!! Looking forward to the premiere tonight! ...is your website down today, by any chance? I've been trying to access it from different browsers, but all I get is a white screen 😔
I'm not sure why, I'll ask my tech guy. I haven't heard that before
George- fans, lets share his video with a few friends, soound good to you ? 😅
I have thousands of antique and Vintage items of brass, bronze, silver, china, etc.
I'm completely OVERWHELMED with trying to not only sell, but researching values. NEED HELP!!
Xmas in July sales should be outlawed!! It's stupid
I have to admit I never liked the concept, but it seems to have stuck
All u show is glass and china
Not much Christmas click bait one reason I don’t subscribe to these channels
