Dude...I saw him live at a Monsters of Rock concert in Karlsrühe, W. Germany in 1984. 50,000+ screaming fans, and he could've done the show without a mic. The single most powerful voice I've ever witnessed...un-freakin-real!!

When RJD replaced Ozzy they weren’t really looking at making new original music, but as they started jamming together the music that was coming out of them was amazing! It’s not an Ozzy “copy”, it’s a new era of Black Sabbath.

I saw DIO in 84 without knowing much about him. Started with his solo stuff. "Don't Talk to Strangers" was when i knew he was special. Then he did some Black Sabbath songs, then Raibow "Man on the Silver Mountain" for an encore. Mind blowing night.
That classic riff was written by Black Sabbath's guitarist Tony Iommi. The bass player is Jimmy Bain, the same one as on Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow's performance of "Stargazer". The drummer is Vinnie Appice (brother of Carmine) - he played in Black Sabbath with Dio, and in various line-ups of Dio's band too. Guitarist is Craig Goldie.

Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin had the first two double neck guitar. He had Gibson put a toggle switch So he could continually play the song from one neck to the other. I imagine it's the same here.

...also, besides watching the Cult get booed offstage (undeservedly) opening for Metallica, it was the only other time I saw a crowd really turn on the opening band. The Quireboys ...??? Pretty sure. The singer said something about the crowd around the 3rd song in & it got QUIET! Pretty soon you could hear people in the crowd telling the band they sucked & get off the Fn stage, among many other things . The band tried to play on, but it was too late, the crowed booed them mercilessly until it they finally left the stage a couple songs later.
My very first concert was DIO !!! I was young running with older guys...I was 15 watching this concert ..been listening to them with Ozzy and Black Sabbath along with Iron Maiden in the early days of rock...watching your reaction again..great job brother
This was a good performance of Dio and his band doing Heaven and Hell. Persobally, I prefer this live performance with Black Sabbath, so maybe you can check it for yourself sometime. Instead how about Children of the Sea, which was the first song they wrote when Sabbath guitarist, Tony Iommi and Ronnie wrote when they first met to discuss him joining the band. Tony played him the riff and Ronnie came up with the words and melody on the spot. Ronnie had begrudgingly left Rainbow due to creative differences.

Back in the day, it was totally a thing for fans to make banners and take to concerts. Sometimes they would just hold them up for the artists to see, other times they would throw them on stage. Now everybody just takes their phones - LOL
Ronnie James Dio and Black Sabath were so great. Had seen Ozzy a few times and Dio was a good match. The boots he had on gave "Fairies Wear Boots" a whole new meaning. It wasn't DIO it was the boots that struck me that way. Ozzy wasn't in the best place at this time and there was a lot of pain with the band. DIO did a fabulous job, and it was a great tour. The keyboard player for this show was different and I know the name but can't say it. Someone might chime in on that. Lakeland Civic Center show.

If you listen to the beginning, they kind of screwed up because the guitar isn’t perfectly tuned with the keyboards, so it sounds a bit dissonant. Well, the fingers are all there, just not the tips of a few of them that he lost in an industrial accident soon before forming Black Sabbath. He made some plastic/latex finger tips and ripped into a 50+ year career!! Legendary!!
I dont remember this whole live video but Dio often liked to mix things up with medleys and such, this may be such a case. I cant say that i like this practise myself, i like hearing the entire song and not snippets back and forth etc.
Dude, this was only about half of the song for some reason. Listen to the studio album version and get the full picture. Yeah, Dio’s voice was among the top five voices in metal in my opinion.
