    I just went to my 6th dermatologist for hair and hyperpigmentation yesterday. Came home in tears because they have no idea how to treat skin conditions for PoC. Every doctor/nurse/incoming patients... NONE of them looked like me. Not one doctor sent me for bloodwork or really looked/touched my skin. I’m just so tired. PCOS is the absolute worst. It makes me furious to witness actual doctors be so dismissive. Thank you for sharing important skincare I would be even more lost without your channel. I should send you my co-pay🤣... I paid 30$ yesterday to be told to go tanning. 😫 And I just got to the end of your video and one of my doctors (the one I visited the most) actually suggested electrolysis, this is the same guy who prescribed me $50 bleaching cream that did not agree with my skin - twice. 😤

    • @sunshinesunflowerz1647
      @sunshinesunflowerz1647 3 роки тому +1

      Once I pay off some of my responsibilities, I definitely am investing electrolysis because HONEY!!!! I’m tired of plucking, every other day to week. Groupon is my friend! and PCOS is the devil so I’m taking control of my pancreas.

    I've been looking forward to a video on this topic. Thank you so much! After 10+ years of removing facial hair, I've developed hyperpigmentation around the mouth and chin. You tie one of your hair strand around it ( make sure it's really tight, get someone else to do it), and cut the leftover hair with scissors. Just leave it until it comes off. I removed a bunch of skintags I had doing this method.

    I swear you be on time. I've had to deal with facial hair for 30 years. Had laser treatments years ago, and it returned after a while. I have been using Nair Cream on my face and it burns, leaving me with slight Hyperpigmentation on my cheeks and chins. I follow your layering for hyperpigmentation and it works wonderfully, but I still have a way to go.

    I had a reaction a few years ago with waxing my eyebrows when using retinol, it burned my skin, so she is absolutely right. I wish I knew that back then. I also used hair removal cream on my face and it became irritated, now I have hyperpigmentation around my upper lip on one side. I will probably look into the epilator. Great video Dr. V, thank you.

    I’m only saying this so for sure others won’t make the same terrible mistake I did. Waxed my upper lip while on adapalene (I KNOW!!!😭😭😭) and I still have a hyperpigmentation mark from that, it completely tore my upper lip apart. Been on a consistent routine with vit c, alpha Arbutin, mineral spf and tretinoin and it’s been slowly improving. But nearly 1.5 years later and it’s still there so rip to her..

    As a holistic master esthetician of over thirty years and a dark skinned women I have seen people damage their skin by threading, waxing and plucking. The best way I have found to have my clients have flawless skin after removing hair with no bacterial or fungal or discoloration issues, is to simply shave. I do recommend shaving daily in areas of extra hair growth like you chin, lip and eye brows. This has shown to be a great way to remove hair , it is clean and healthy and I and my clients have no discoloration In Those areas or break outs🙌🏻

      if I only use eye cream, then the skin will look dry after a few hours (while the rest of the face’s moisturizer is still damp)
      Then I tried to put sleeping mask on top, still dry in the morning..
      So I add moisturizer on top of eye gel, then another layer of occlusive cream to keep the area moist, but Im concern if it will cause milia/not if I continue that way

      I’ve done laser hair removal on just about every part of my body including my face. If you have PCOS you’ll see about 90% different. However, please note, regardless of how it’s advertised laser hair removal is not permanent...I got it done first in 2006 and went back last year 2019 for a second round (touch ups) ...so about every 15 years which isn’t bad all things considered.
      Also NEVER ever pay full price for laser if you’re in the states. It’s an over saturated market so you can find Groupons. As long as they are using the YAG laser it’s all good.

    One of my fellow Desi friends said that her dermatologist told her that something like 75%+ of Asian and African descended people are allergic to dairy, and that her acne was caused by a dairy sensitivity. She cut out dairy and her acne and PIH cleared up a little over a week later. Could you perhaps talk about allergies/sensitivities unique to people of color and how they affect our skin?

Then i started thinking what can i use as a barrier to protect my skin during threading and thought i would try vaseline which actually worksled amazingly. Also do hair removal straight after shower when your pores are open so hairs will be easier to be pulled out.

    Dr V, I agree, threading on the upper lip hurts big time, but it is so worth it. I used to get my entire face threaded but with Covid the Treading places are closed. So, I have resorted to dermaplaning/shaving. Once life becomes normal (or has normal as post Covid will be), I will go back to threading.

Now my upper lips and chin looks fine . But i do have lots of hairs on chin and upper lips . Now I am trying laster hair removal at home . I also tried plucking but for me that takes for ever.

    Great video, thank you!! I made the mistake of waxing while using Tretinoin and it ripped my skin off. Fortunately it didn't cause any pigmentation. I've also heard that you shouldn't wax a few days leading up to and during menstruation because the skin is thinner.

    I thread my eyebrows and my sideburns! My upper lip is manageable with threading too. But my chin was a nightmare! I had more than 50-55 thick stubble like hair. I took the plunge and used the braun at home laser hair removal device. Took over 3 months but now I’m down to 5-6 fine hair on my chin and a few fine hair on my upper lip too. I did get one huge spot of dark pigmentation with the laser, I stopped lasering that part immediately and took about 2 months of following your hyperpigmentation routine to get rid of it. So it’s a huge risk but for me it paid off. My PCOS made the hair horrible and painful. Everytime the hair grew post threading it would cause a bump, red and painful! It left dark brown spots on that area too. Now with the hair not growing there anymore I don’t have that much pigmentation left on my chin anymore. The hyperpigmentation routine you suggested has helped with removing the old hyperpigmentation and no new marks are appearing with the hair gone.

    I’ve used an epilator since they first came out and it’s important to hold the skin taught and ice afterwards. Also you do get used to it but whenever starting in a new area you will have to get used to it in that area like you did with other areas. I just recently started doing my upper lip and it does hurt when I do that area.

      I am a waxer, not a dr, but generally two-three days is what I told clients, but if you have thin skin I would wait even up to a week, depending on the product you use.
      Edited to clarify: I am only talking about waxing, not laser.

      Caitie Regan u mean u can use Alpha Arbutin kinda stuff too between the treatment sittings ?

    • @caitieeeee
      @caitieeeee 3 роки тому

      @@sravsp7696 if you are talking about a treatment that is OTC, like that you buy without a prescription, alpha arbutin is probably safe for use after waxing, like even the next day or two if it doesn't have an acid in it. The main contraindications are treatments like retin-a, which I would say people should stop using at least a week in advance of a wax, and accutane (which... just don't get waxed while using it, you have to stop months before getting a wax). I use differin OTC so I am not waxing my face right now, even though I could probably get away with stopping treatment for a week and doing my lip.
      As far as I know alpha arbutin is not a skin thinning brightener so it shouldn't be a problem, but I would always defer to a dermatologist. If you have a concern, you can ask your doctor or your waxer/laser provider for help. Also I am not laser certified and I have never worked with it, so I cannot speak to laser; all I know is like a week of study from school 😂
