    I have been trying my hardest to get use to this style of benching for the last month - normally I only slightly stick my back up off the bench and stand on the balls of my feet, so there is no proper arch or leg drive but I still got pretty strong this way. Always felt like I'd trained my chest afterwards and it got much bigger as I got stronger. Now I've been getting a much higher arch and feet tucked underneath together with drive, and bar range of motion feels 2/3 of what it was. The problem afterwards is I don't even feel like I've trained chest and I have lost tonnes of size and bodyweight from this style. I feel slight bit in lower chest and mainly all in triceps. I'm all for big numbers but also want to feel good after doing it. I'm kind of torn between the two styles currently - I want the big bench but also the feel good factor too which I just don't get with the big arching & leg drive style. What sort of percentage increase is to be had between the two styles do you think Graham?

    Forgive my ignorance, but would it not be better to train with a full/larger range of motion like a regular flat bench, get all your stabilisers firing and increase your strength - then go into a comp with the chest out/rounded back etc. knowing that you can press more with the smaller range of motion?

    for me (just training to stay fit), this is all ok if your competing against others and have to have these "tricks" to stay competitive, bit like belts, wraps and straps etc. but i have always believed in trying to be strong "real world", so no straps, no belts, full range of movement etc etc. whats the point of being able to pick something up heavy if you have to go and get your belt first!!!

    • @TheHixxy1985
      @TheHixxy1985  2 роки тому

      Belts are for safety....thats like saying I wanna drive my car without seat belt to me......

    • @matthewwiddows6319
      @matthewwiddows6319 2 роки тому

      @@TheHixxy1985 thanks for the reply, from your point of view, i can see that getting maximum weight safely is the most important thing. the seatbelt is passive, its doesnt do anything until needed, the belt is applying a constant compressive force to give you a stronger core than without. same as why wraps are done on straight legs, to then act as a spring under compression (watch some of the squatters walk out to the rack) .always found the belt or no belt an interesting subject. safety from what? Ive never worn belts or straps, with the belief that if the lift doesn't feel controlled, then lower the weight. i get this mostly on squat when the weight overpowers your core, you legs maybe ok, but you just cant stabilise. what happens when the 250kg deadlift guy is helping his neighbour move some heavy objects? his body is used to having a belt for providing core strength, and now its not there. to me thats unsafe. thanks for the reply again, good luck with the channel and recovery. Matt.

    What are peoples opinions on those who are able to do incredible back arches and have massively wide grips who’s bench range of movement ends up being sub 20cm? Personally I don’t think your going to grow your chest muscles with a hyper curved back and your chest 20cm from the bar. I’m more impressed by less weight with the back flat on the bench. Look at Maddox, back flat on the bench and he’s got the world record.
