Everytime he painted so extreme, like the subsurface, and the glass on the left, I would think: "hmmm... is this really working?" Then when he erased it, "OAO!!!!! Mas, Master!!! That looks amazing!"
thanks for tutorial. i like the easy to follow steps and layer set up. one thing - wouldn't fishman's head be under water with the greenish water color too?:P
@mycollegeshirt The original has contradictory light that's the issue. The character is back-lit, yet the drawing is front lit. :/ When you define your light direction you get a stronger image. Sam's paintover respected the established light direction.
Please dont ever delete this! Amazing material, thank you!

Holy shit. That was incredible. Stunning work. This amount of help and feedback is just insane, massive respect.
Amazing knowledge and insight. Brilliant!
The fresnel effect on the eye reflection is amaazing!
Pretty damn good. I mocked up the light situation with some primitives in 3d and the highlight from the sun should be even closer to the edge though.
Ain't nobody got time for that
This was so satisfying to watch haha, nice work thanks for sharing!

A simpler solution could have been to move the cast shadow instead :P
