You won’t be disappointed. The Alan levels are so batshit trippy and surreal. Easily some of the most unique stuff I’ve experienced in a game. The Saga stuff isn’t as interesting but there is a lot of mystery and intrigue surrounding her which is what kept me interested w her story
Almost everything Ahti says in the Alan Wake 2 and in Control are known Finnish sayings (same way like "water under the bridge" etc.) He also says it with the strongest Finnish accent. Love that guy.
Ahti speaking in riddles kind of makes sense considering he's theorized to be a being older than time itself. He was a character that was very prevalent in Control as well.

I feel like the characters all act mysterious and weird because it’s something common in horror books so they tried to give this game the same feeling which I feel they did well
Actually the reason why everyone is so odd as well it is based off the show twin peaks and that show is phenomenal play this and the first deadly premonition games if you like this style of horror
I live out in the boonies in Oregon we got hit by a storm when the game came out so my wifi was knocked out so being bored I watched a playthrough of AW2 on 480p and omg I was blown away with how good the game looked on a shitty phone. Game does everything right and I can't wait to get my hands on a PS5 to play this game sometime next year
I think Ahti is that way because we still don't know the nature of the character. He in Control guides Jesse throughe the maze, and in alan wake 2, he is the one that opens doors for you and guide you through the dark place. Also, Ahti usually reference water because Ahti is the god of water in Finnish Mythology. One thing that interesting about Ahti is that he is the only character that can move between reality and the dark place, not like alan or saga.
Alan Wake made me realise that simple mechanics, such as a flashlight, turn me from a "skilled" player when it comes to shooters 1st or 3rd person, into a panicking mess that game will always have a special place in my heart. Having him kinda read/speak things into existence as youre going through it made me wanna slam his head into a table or tape his mouth shut, such a quirky concept but god damn did it work
Actually everthing Ahti says makes complete sense, you just cant interpret it because he's giving you answers that relates to the end-game stuff. That "seemingly" nonsense dialogue about water you joked about is actually something used in the final moments of the story. So he is giving you direct answers, we as players just can't understand them just yet.
Haven't played this game but I'm fairly certain this "Ahti" character is an on-going meme for this studio. The "Patches" of Remedy Entertainment. Ahti is also a character in Control, one of their other huge titles and he plays a cryptic custodian with a thick accent that gives answers that can be extremely confusing but also the exact answer you're looking for.
Not really an ongoing meme, more of a game connecting character. The games all share the same universe and ahti is potentially a poweful being that is guiding the characters
"Charlie was excited to play a game he had waited to play for 13 years but then my writing came to life. When the game arrived Charlie fell sick with Covid-19 at the worst of times. He watched playthroughs to pass the time wile his infection riddled him with disgust, but in the shadows he didn't realize the dangers in front of him." - Alen Wake
I think I heard it mention that they way you approach the different character campaigns will influence how you view the story and it makes replaying the game more appealing cause you can approach it differently and get a very different play experience
I'd not even played the first one, I saw a bit of Charles streaming the second and now I'm playing the first instalment so I can be clued up on the story. It reminds me slightly of one of the greatest TV shows ever given to man, Twin Peaks.

Have to strongly disagree on the ending, though I understand much of that wil be personal preference, however (spoilers below) Saying the ending brings us back to square one is simply incorrect. There are more people now in the dark place to assist us, Alan still has his memories unlike at the start of AW2, Alan understands the mechanics at play far more completely, and the final line "It's not a loop, it's a spiral" has some massive implications. A loop, as Alan had been thinking of it has no end, no beginning, moving in either direction leads to the same place, you can't break out of a loop. A spiral has a start, and it has an end, you can spiral inwards or you can spiral outwards, there are multiple directions to move in. The first game is the descent, the second game is the understanding, paving the way for the third to be the ascension. Just like Alan's books from the game, Departure (AW1), Initiation (AW2), and Return (AW3). The dark place is a complex knot, where the characters are looking it over trying to find where to pull to unravel it, and ends with them finding the end of the string so the process of unraveling the knot can begin.
Yeah. Alan is in the same place he was, but Scratch was defeated with the bullet of light and it will probably be much easier for Alan to escape now. He's done with his descent by stopping Scratch and now he's ready for the ascension stage like Alice said at the end. Hope it doesn't take 13 years for a new one, although I'm sure Alan and/or the characters in his games will appear in control 2 (which is next) or any other games Remedy plans on making. They nailed created their own game universe after all these years!
I'm going through Remastered with my wife right now before going through the sequel. She's always been interested in the story, and this way she can enjoy the story while I'm going through it. Wake is one of my favorite games of all time because of the story.
Ouch, feel bad for the wife. This game is straight up bland. Bland characters, bland story, really bad combat, childlike puzzles you can do without looking at the screen. Seriously, just spam click and youll get the clues right. Doesn't matter what you do. This game is straight ass and the Rothchilds are just paying everyone to say its good.
@@Buggabones Shit I could've gotten paid to enjoy this game? I'm getting robbed. Here I am enjoying one of the best narratives I've played in a video game for free. Sorry you didn't enjoy it, but some people have to take the minority opinion.
I didn't know that Ahti was in Alan Wake 2, but now that I do I'm even more excited. Ahti is not "normal" so it makes sense the way he talks, I'm glad he wasn't changed from how he was in Control.
Alan Wake 2 is a masterpiece. Remedy took everything they've learned from Alan Wake 1, Quantum Leap, and Control, and combined it all into an incredible one of a kind experience
12:51 If you finished control the world progresses fast and opens a whole new side Alan is a writer and his whole thing is a single entity and a single town There is no real way to make him more than that Having it end on a cliff hanger makes sense Alan started it got lost in the darkness wrote tons of stories In doing so created allies Alan "created" saga was created to free him Alan made the town stop the darkness But jesse is something that slipped by She is the fighting power alan needs to directly combat the darkness She fought against awveral supernatural forces including another big one like darkness She fought sound (the hiss) We might get another story of a new person or a combined story of jesse and alan facing the threats
As a fan of Remedy studios and their games for 20 years, I can proudly say that Alan Wake 2 left me with my mouth open multiple times and continues to do so because I haven't finished it yet. From story, to sound design and visuals, everything is amazing and I couldn't help but get reminded of Max Payne 1 and 2 with the rambles of Casey, the random appearances of the janitor, the oh so melancholic ambient sound of creaking buildings and doors. so yeah, Remedy has done it again.
If you think of it like Alan wake 1 released a week before this, the ending is ,while not good , decent. They don’t stray away from the “looping” nature of the dark place and Thomas Zane in an initiation 8 also mentioned, it’s not a loop it’s a spiral showing they kinda did set it up and it was not out of nowhere and also it was similar to how Alan wake 1 it was it’s not a lake it’s an ocean. With both the sequels we learn a lot more about the dark place and now Alan would have a much better approach to it as in the starting of the game he was like what the fuck and asspulls everywhere. Now he understands all that and it would be interesting to see his approach in the dlcs announced. The spiral thing also represents a writers/artists nature and how they start off with nothing and if they don’t stop making or creating they eventually get a better result and become more popular in reference to how Alan would eventually reach the end.But yeah if I had to wait 13 years , I would have been a bit distasteful the end
For everyone watching this video, keep in mind there's a different ending that you can get, which is way clearer than the first one -- it was released I think one or two weeks after the game, so I don't know whether Charlie is taking it into account or not Also much like many others pointed out, keep in mind Ahti is a character from another Remedy series, Control, where he is supposed to be a David-Lynchesque character who speaks as if he was in its own world. But I do agree with everything else that was said, great game and great review!
I've been taking my time really savoring the game since it came out on Friday. I've got about 15 hours put into it and I absolutely love it. Hits all the right notes for me when it comes to gameplay, storytelling, overall design and the fact that it came out just in time for Halloween makes it all the more better. Plus without spoiling anything this game also gives us a small glimpse of what the Max Payne remake that remedy is working on might look like. I am very excited to see what they put out next.
It always amazed me how few people even heard of Alan Wake back then. It has such a good story and I’m glad 2 is getting the attention 1 deserved. Screw it, I’m buying it right now.
I waited so long for Alan Wake 2. I'm so happy it didn't end up in limbo and Remedy was able to get the license back. I think they regained the rights in 2019 to publish Alan Wake IP instead of Microsoft. It's so much fun and way better than I expected it to be. Wonderful game.
Such a great game. I can’t wait to figure out the mystery that is Warlin Door, and why Darling is in the dark place. I’m sure that’ll be touched on in the Night Springs dlc
They didn’t play it safe, and experimented a TON - having a musical and a full 15-20 minute long short film in there. It was great. I don’t think it left us in the same spot though - it isn’t a loop, it’s a spiral. It only looks like a loop since you do the same thing, but change enough you spiral within or without. Apparently the New Game + update is going to add onto this as well, so it’s gonna be cool to see how NG+ becomes part of the story lol
I dont understand the hype. This game is BORING as hell. It has good graphics.. THATS IT. Boring gameplay, awful writing, replacing characters for the same of "inclusivity." Idk how anyone finds this game fun. You literally walk back and forth to the same spot 100 times and find clues. Thats the entire game. If you try to explore, youll find NOTHING because you're not suppose to be there yet. You dont even need to do the clues right. The game will figure everything out for you if you just click buttons.. Its mind-numbingly boring. Combat is nothing but bullet sponges, burn with light, run, shoot, rinse and repeat for the entire game. I dont get it, everyone loves this game. 10/10 across the board. Something isnt right here. Someone got paid off or something. Theres just nothing here, bland story with bland characters and shitty combat, with simplistic childlike puzzles. Rinse and repeat.
Playing Alan Wake 1, American Nightmare, Quantum Break and Control back-to-back just to catch up on story and realizing even after that I STILL wasn't ready for how fucking EPIC and AWESOME AW2 is has made me the happiest camper. Just bought the first game for 4 bucks on PC. It's a really awesome game. I used to watch my friend play it but I never beat it. Gonna have to pick up this sequel at some point.
I remember getting my original 360 back in the day which came with a download code for Alan Wake. I put so much time in bro that original game cause I only had 2 Xbox games at the time, Alan Wake and Halo Reach. I cannot explain how much this game makes me feel and it I must say that those 13 years of waiting were worth it. On a side note it’s gonna be a LONG while before Herald Of Darkness gets out of my head.
Loved the game and look forward to the DLC. It’s a great story and the detective gameplay is awesome! Great music with Poe and the Old Gods of Asgard. It’s cool to see the connection to Control as well. This game really feels like if House of Leaves was a video game. In regards to what he says about the ending I think it kind of fits the point of the story.
I just finished the game today and holy shit, it was an amazing experience, one of the best games I've played in the last few years. I was left only mildly disappointed with the ending (literally the last cutscene), but apart from that the whole game is a masterpiece. Super creative, beautiful graphics and OST, perfect narrative, really atmospheric etc. It is sooo good
You're gonna love actually playing it. It's a masterpiece. I waited 13 years for a proper sequel and I'm not disappointed. I understand your feelings about the ending, but you have to remember there will be 2 DLCs and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a 3rd game. Specifically (SPOILERS): this game DID have a resolution...for Saga. Her part in this story is pretty much wrapped up, unless she wants to permanently join the fight due to the unclear situation with her daughter. But Alan's story isn't done yet, and I'm personally okay with that. There's still a lot we don't know about the Dark Place, the Dark Presence, Scratch, etc. that can be expanded upon in future content.
I played Alan Wake 1 over a decade ago during my college years and I STILL consider it one of the best games I have ever played; Had no idea they were even thinking about making Alan Wake 2 - and now it's released?! Wow!
I don't understand what I'm missing, I never understood why Alan Wake was considered a good game. Gameplay wise is very boring, limited and not interesting and storywise it's just about something comparable to barely enjoyable one. Is this because of the terror general mood the game sets? Is this like an emotional experience or something?
@@sailor5853 It could simply be nostalgia for me - I bought my first gaming PC at that time, and among Skyrim as being one of the first games I experienced on the PC, there was Alan Wake. Also, for genres like Alan Wake, you really do have to be in the mood/mindset for a single player thriller/horror - the same can be said for those type of movie genres, if you go into it with wanting to be scared or wanting that type of mystery feeling, then that tends to be the experience you end up having.
i haven’t played alan wake so i don’t know if this is what they were going for but after hearing charlie mention “ahti” was communicating in riddles it instantly reminded me of a character in the game control who is also quite cryptic, so i looked up the name. the name ahti comes from finnish mythology and seems to have some connection to the sea and seafaring. ahti is viewed as heroic and even referred to as “hero of the islands in some songs”. it is also expressed that his voyages began after his wife broke a vow to stay faithful. unsure what it could mean in relation to the game but i thought it was pretty neat

Almost everything Ahti says in the Alan Wake 2 and in Control are known Finnish sayings (same way like "water under the bridge" etc.)
He also says it with the strongest Finnish accent. Love that guy.
Yeah and they are literal translations. Thats why they dont make sense
The chapter “We Sing” is the greatest gaming experience!
Ahti speaking in riddles kind of makes sense considering he's theorized to be a being older than time itself. He was a character that was very prevalent in Control as well.
I haven't played Alan Wake 2 yet, but I really liked Ahti in Control. Can't wait to get into AW2.
He is a Finnish ancient being godlike
Oooh he's the Janitor in Control right?
@robertmonroe9837i never played control and my alan wake 2 experience is more than fine you dont need to play control it just has a couple of nods to it in game

Playing New game plus, you realize what all of the npcs are talking about, and the game makes total sense the second time through, a truly epic experience, well thought out game, its almost like they wrote the story backwards in a seamlessly perfect way, game is 11/10
That musical level was one of my favorite levels in a video game ever! It hits you out of nowhere and just when you think its over it keeps going! I had to replay the game just so I could go back and do a manual save right before the level so I can go back and play it over and over lol
Game does everything right and I can't wait to get my hands on a PS5 to play this game sometime next year
Truly a *"WWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH* THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR" moment of all times
Can u put me in the moist meter?

I think Ahti is that way because we still don't know the nature of the character. He in Control guides Jesse throughe the maze, and in alan wake 2, he is the one that opens doors for you and guide you through the dark place. Also, Ahti usually reference water because Ahti is the god of water in Finnish Mythology. One thing that interesting about Ahti is that he is the only character that can move between reality and the dark place, not like alan or saga.
play: DON'T SCREAM fullll scaryy💀💀
Nothing in the Control Universe states or even hints at him being a water God. If anything he IS the Oldest House.
@@CinnamonToastKing I think he's just to Finnish blue collar worker what Mary Poppins is to British nanny
@@CinnamonToastKingahti is literally the name of the finnish god of water
Mr. Door can as well. From what is hinted Door can move between more than just the Dark Place and Alan Wake reality.
Alan Wake made me realise that simple mechanics, such as a flashlight, turn me from a "skilled" player when it comes to shooters 1st or 3rd person, into a panicking mess
that game will always have a special place in my heart. Having him kinda read/speak things into existence as youre going through it made me wanna slam his head into a table or tape his mouth shut, such a quirky concept but god damn did it work
Mmmkko ki ko okokonkhi
Actually everthing Ahti says makes complete sense, you just cant interpret it because he's giving you answers that relates to the end-game stuff. That "seemingly" nonsense dialogue about water you joked about is actually something used in the final moments of the story. So he is giving you direct answers, we as players just can't understand them just yet.
13 years? How bout waiting 25 for Good Burger 2?
Haven't played this game but I'm fairly certain this "Ahti" character is an on-going meme for this studio. The "Patches" of Remedy Entertainment. Ahti is also a character in Control, one of their other huge titles and he plays a cryptic custodian with a thick accent that gives answers that can be extremely confusing but also the exact answer you're looking for.
Not really an ongoing meme, more of a game connecting character. The games all share the same universe and ahti is potentially a poweful being that is guiding the characters

I'm still waiting for rayman 4. Rayman 3 came out like 20 years ago at this point lmao.
You gotta remember Ahti is a supernatural being from control, he's supposed to be weird like that
"Charlie was excited to play a game he had waited to play for 13 years but then my writing came to life. When the game arrived Charlie fell sick with Covid-19 at the worst of times. He was as sad as an Arturo polar bear when he couldn't play Alen Wake II as soon as he could've.
It's refreshing to hear charlie say he's trying to not spoil something and he actually doesn't.
It's not a loop; it's a spiral.
I'd not even played the first one, I saw a bit of Charles streaming the second and now I'm playing the first instalment so I can be clued up on the story. It reminds me slightly of one of the greatest TV shows ever given to man, Twin Peaks.
Oh comparing it to twin peaks kind of makes me wanna play it
Man i love twin peaks so much!
Twin Peaks is definitely among the diverse inspirations for Alan Wake.
If I remember correctly, the first Alan Wake had many Twin Peak references.
It took a LOT of inspiration from Twin Peaks
Yeah, the ending could have given us more. But the "it's not a loop, it's a spiral" hit just right for me
Hella bummed out. I watched you play those first two hours live and was really looking forward to watching your entire playthrough. I finished the game myself a couple days ago and absolutely loved it. I’m looking forward to the DLC would be cool to watch you play those!
This game is so good. I play it then stop then want to play again. THIS SHOULD SHOW ALL THE MULTIPLAYER DEVS THAT TRUE SINGLE PLAYER STORY GAMES DONE RIGHT ARE THE BEST.
You can REALLY hear him breathing on this one. I hope you're doing okay Charlie, I'm not going through a good time either. but I siphon my strength to you in hopes you get well soon:)

I recovered from covid recently and it was the most sick I've been in my life. I really feel his pain
My poos are bigger than Charlie's poos
My dad has like no immune system and never admits he feels sick- my mum had to bring him in and Ofc the nurse tells him he’d of died if he didn’t come in because he had Covid 💀 hee not even that old
Have to strongly disagree on the ending, though I understand much of that wil be personal preference, however (spoilers below)
Saying the ending brings us back to square one is simply incorrect. The dark place is a complex knot, where the characters are looking it over trying to find where to pull to unravel it, and ends with them finding the end of the string so the process of unraveling the knot can begin.
i aint reading allat
I feel your pain...

well ahti is not human, it is a headache but this supernatural beautiful deity is what blew my mind the most about control and alan wake 2
Alan Wake and Control are some of my favourite pieces of media entertainment of all time.
I love how they directly tied it in with Control too
I didn't know that Ahti was in Alan Wake 2, but now that I do I'm even more excited.
Ahti is not "normal" so it makes sense the way he talks, I'm glad he wasn't changed from how he was in Control.
Ahti is in the game?! There really is a overlap with control! I was hoping! Yessssss
Alan Wake 2 is a masterpiece. Remedy took everything they've learned from Alan Wake 1, Quantum Leap, and Control, and combined it all into an incredible one of a kind experience
Didnt ask. I lUV ANIMAL ABVSE. My content is more entertaining has more substance than this utubers entire career. Eye posted proof.
Quantum Break? Yeah AW2 is awesome.
The first couple of hours were bad imo. But the later parts are cool. Far from a masterpiece in my eyes but a decent game.
Don’t forget Max Payne. There’s a lot of little Max Payne nuggets in AW2.
does the ending make sense?
12:51
If you finished control the world progresses fast and opens a whole new side
Alan is a writer and his whole thing is a single entity and a single town
There is no real way to make him more than that
Having it end on a cliff hanger makes sense
Alan started it got lost in the darkness wrote tons of stories
In doing so created allies
Alan "created" saga was created to free him
Alan made the town stop the darkness
But jesse is something that slipped by
She is the fighting power alan needs to directly combat the darkness
She fought against awveral supernatural forces including another big one like darkness
She fought sound (the hiss)
We might get another story of a new person or a combined story of jesse and alan facing the threats
It's so good to hear that a game I've been waiting for is actually good upon release
4:15 sold me on the game... not sure why
Been in love with this game since I first started it, I’m having a blast. Feels like the next level of survival horror that devs will look back on.
The rock opera bit is one of the single greatest game moments ever lol.
For everyone watching this video, keep in mind there's a different ending that you can get, which is way clearer than the first one -- it was released I think one or two weeks after the game, so I don't know whether Charlie is taking it into account or not
Also much like many others pointed out, keep in mind Ahti is a character from another Remedy series, Control, where he is supposed to be a David-Lynchesque character who speaks as if he was in its own world.
But I do agree with everything else that was said, great game and great review!
Just finished the game and had to go back and play "We Sing" because the musical part is one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. Great game.

They had to “wokeify” it first. That’s why it took so long.

Such a great game. I can’t wait to figure out the mystery that is Warlin Door, and why Darling is in the dark place. I’m sure that’ll be touched on in the Night Springs dlc
Ahti actually gives finnish idioms translated straight to english, most of them dont make any sense translated but they're funny
Charlie is a master of patience.
6:33 Then again Ahti is finnish and finns don't usually have the best grasp on the english language :DD
would love to see him talk about this game again after having played and hopefully having played the updated content
I'm so happy so many people are loving this game and getting into the series. It's honestly one of the most awaited and best sequels in my opinion.
@@cregerbot8217 Can't wait to replay in a NG+ HYPED!!!!

It is sooo good
Hope you feel better soon charlie! Prayers!
13 years? what a rookie. I am waiting 16 years for hl3 now, and still no end in sight.
The real Alan Wake 2 are the friends we made along the way
You're gonna love actually playing it.
Dude, take a break for a few days and get better. We'll still be here.
I’m willing to wait 13years to see Charlie’s John wick 5
i haven’t played alan wake so i don’t know if this is what they were going for but after hearing charlie mention “ahti” was communicating in riddles it instantly reminded me of a character in the game control who is also quite cryptic, so i looked up the name.
the name ahti comes from finnish mythology and seems to have some connection to the sea and seafaring. ahti is viewed as heroic and even referred to as “hero of the islands in some songs”. it is also expressed that his voyages began after his wife broke a vow to stay faithful.
unsure what it could mean in relation to the game but i thought it was pretty neat
Fun fact, the game Control and Alan Wake share the same world
