It's incredibly fun seeing my hobby project getting covered in this way. This was a case of continuously modding it until it's good (enough for me). But that'll continue with the more proper NATO adaptors it seems, looking forward to that. The hydro-mod it's purpose was to make it more water resistent as my previous MIP watch died after getting the battery replaced (serviced under warranty, am wearing that piece now). The welcome sceen is an option in the 'secret' factory menu, figured I'd enable it. Pity that you missed that notification, it read "Subscribe to GOAT Reviews!". When I got it the original straps did stink, but this has mostly off-gassed since. I choose that oil as it's extremely thin, which is important for keeping thr vibration alerts functional. If you're familiar with modding LCDs it might look like I installed the polariser upside-down. MIP screens are highly unusual, it only works in this orientation and turning it 90 degrees doesn't invert it. And it needs diffusion to work at all, having skipped adding new glue this difference might be causing the effect.

But I hear you about being distracted by Casios - I still have my 1979 F-100 and got re-hooked on the brand after buying an AE1200 at the start of the year. Now I own a GD350 as well and I'm drooling over the GDX-100. Hanging out for a good sale price. I reckon around $160 should do it... Cheers!

it is more beautiful and of higher quality construction than the GBD-200. but if you already own a GBD-200 there is no reason in my opinion to buy a GBX-100; no extra sensors or features that appeal to me.
This is a very logical take, that I agree with! 💯🙌 It looks really nice with the metal bezel, and I find the text to be more legible on this bezel too. Just like you, i find that while the Sun/Tide/Moon features are cool, they aren’t enough to compel me to buy the watch as an existing GBD-200 owner. That’s why I feel extremely grateful, and fortunate to have had the opportunity to borrow this GBX-100, and experience what it has to offer, without committing to buying one. Hey Vezquex 👋 I totally resonate with that. To me, the moon graph and tide graph have not proven useful for my needs so far - However the sun rise and set times have been useful in knowing what hours of daylight I’ve got! I imagine this may be the case for others, too. Thanks for weighing in 😁🙏
Worse than factory and distorted with direct light sources, still better than most standard inverted LCDs and worse than positive ones. In the dark the contrast with the backlight on is significantly worse, I'm unsure whether that could be fixed by changing the back polariser. So a definite no-go, unless you mod it for fun or really want that look.

That's SUBJECTIVE and BECAUSE of the reasons explained in the forum post! I have a GBD-100 with the EXACT same (unmodified) screen, which I can swap out to restore it. It's a long chain of X broke or didn't fit, fixed by mod Y, breaking Z in the process, wanting to learn and document the process and only focussing on functionality or comfort for a daily beater watch. Absolutely opinionated.
Hi Dan, Keep in mind that the decisions the owner made on modding this watch were deliberate, based on HIS opinions. It’s important to respect that. Personally, I do understand the desire for a flush NATO strap - which is why I may attempt modding this in the follow up review. Hopefully, it still fills the owners requirements of how it fits his wrist, and the convenience of how he wears it over his sleeve. It’s not my watch, after all. What seems good for my needs, may not match his! I would not consider this “clueless”, since it was intentional. It’s just a different (and equally valid) perspective. The point I very much disagree with is the display!! 🤩 To me the rainbowish display is really cool, and INCREDIBLY unique - a trait I value more than most, it seems. Thanks for sharing your perspective. 🙏
The GBX-100's screen used to be as sharp as it's the same module. But the screen sits closer to the crystal in the GBD-200, which gives the same effect as hydro-modding for the time that lasts. The reason for the lower contrast is a repair I did after that, the rainbow look being a side-effect of that.

Rather unsightly the way the Nato is squeezed into those lugs. Would recommend using an adaptor which is available online.
