    This is pretty dope! A great idea that perfectly utilizes 3D printing in its design! Firm but squishy lol. The print time is a killer unless you have a decent farm though.
    As for the layer lines on the top not making for good grip tape adhesion, have you thought about making a metal plate that fits the footpad that can heat up enough to smoothen out those lines? Could be a good post-process tool for the footpads worth building if you intend to make make many of them.

      I've actually tested using a metal plate warmed with a heat gun to press the surface layer and it causes loads of bubbling issues and makes the plastic look bubonic haha.
      I've chatted to a few and i've had the recommendation of using a special resin glue to roll over the top to create a smoother surface. I'll definitely try it. But at the end of the day the negatives are far lower than the positives here, of course I'm biased though.
      Thanks for the comment, glad to hear from ya wren :))

      I know it’s not mainstream yet but this would be the a perfect application for no planar 3D printing/slicing. It would give a smooth top surface for the grip tape to adhere to. Hopefully it keeps getting worked on and becomes more accessible

    Damn you YT algorithm.. I just got a set of Platy's for my XR.
    Going to keep an eye on these for when I build up a VESC board later this year.

    I’ve been testing a paire for over a year. Was little reluctant but they are amazing. Thought they wouldn’t last but as they’re flexible they absobe shock and protect the board really well.
    I love them. Only downside is grip tape but event that master me the year going pretty hard.

    Nice, love the weight savings, dropping weight from the extremities of the board, sweet. What I love about the Kush pads is their durability. Kush wide acts as a bumper and holds up to that abuse. Air pads from C&R chunk away on impact because they are IMO too soft. I think its important to address durability when talking about 3D printed foot pads.

    • @vesconewheel
      @vesconewheel  Рік тому +1

    How do these hold up? I assume a hole would cause footpad to leak air and loss its squishyness?

    • @hasserecht3678
      @hasserecht3678 12 днів тому

      Nope. The squishyness relies on the infill and material properties, not on airpockets

    Coolio. I have a couple of questions... Without a metal backplate, don't you risk bending/breaking the controller box/battery box when landing a jump? Do you have the V4 footpad sensor hooked up as posi, or dual (modified by cutting the bottom link)? How mellow or hard is the concavity? I'm looking for an XR footpad with similar geometry as the original GT footpads. I know people hate them, but I love the aggressive angles. Cheers!

    Do sensors perform OK on such a soft footpad? Or are you mounting them on a plate under the footpad? Either way, very cool, I think there's a lot of promise in 3D printing with hollow spaces or meshes that are tuned to create specific deformation characteristics.

    • @vesconewheel
      @vesconewheel  Рік тому

    I so want to reduce the weight of the footpad. It's not clear if you are also offering a front footpad, with sensor. Fabulous work, keep it going. (I currently run Kush Lo, front and rear)The problem is, I can't buy any footpad without the grip tape on it, so waste the grip tape that comes on one, each time I make one for the front. Also, FFM about using them on their controller, We pay for our boards, what we do with them is up to us.

    @vesconewheel Love it, but I don't like the squishy feeling of the craft and ride air pad. I love the kush ones. Would love a version with the same feeling of the kush wide, squishy but not that much. With the problems of the grip tape, what about putting a sensor as it would be prone to getting detached to the pad. Anyway, looks like a great Footpad and should be great if you could release the step/stl files as you were saying you wouldn't be able to build a lot of these guys. Congrats

      The sensors use a much better M3 adhesive that's more "seepy" than grip tape adhesive, hence they dont have issues at all which is awesome

    My main issue with soft pads is lack of rigidity at the center. It's unacceptable for XR platform where we either have very thin aluminium box covers or plastic in some cases. When you ride, doing drops, jumps, you are bending the lids underneath the pad. Really bad for batteries that we use, bad for cover mounted controllers and probably long term not good for sealed boxes. Love Kush but stopped using it for that reason. People started using metal plates underneath the pad, but I feel like designing the pad to prevent bendi g of the boxes lids is just better approach

    • @vesconewheel
      @vesconewheel  Рік тому +2

      That's actually an issue that my vesc casing designs don't encounter, as mine are full 3d printed from PA-CF, the lids are tough but less rigid, meaning they flex with the impacts and wont ever get permanently deformed. I've been testing these systems for thousands of kilometres with excellent results. Your reasoning is definitely true with stock casings though, as mine from my old XR are also all bent haha

    175$ for a pair!! I get the 17hrs and design but damn no sensor grip tape adhesion issues and 12$ in filiment 175$ is crazy dude just don't see how that's competitive with mass produced options for less....

      34 hours of printing per set, included sensor and cable, grip tape issue is actually solved now, and its 70 usd less than platysense. I'd say I'm being generous.
      I dont see any other options for less.
