Told ya some weeks ago about these. Said they were good. Next time when your resting your steak, wrap it in foil. Makes it even more tender and keeps it warm 👍 At these prices, i have one every week.
with vacuum packed steaks it is good idea, when you take from the fridge, to take it out of the pack and then let it come to room temperature. let it breathe a bit.
Seems that room temp makes no deference as most restaurants keep steaks in a fridge prior to cooking but taking them out of the vac pack is a good idea
When my Mum was a young lady back in the 50’s she was in town with her mate and they went into the local high street butches…. My mums mate didn’t now what cut of meat to ask for so my Mum advised her accordingly….. The butcher ask what she wanted and she replied “I’d like a bit off the hump please”😂👍
Wetherspoons used to sell steak from Zebu cattle but a load of simpering Muppets ranted against it for some reason. It was delicious and Zebu cattle have a hump..
Ya bugger i will have to not have my cornflakes for tea and have my Rib Eye done in my Halogen oven , frozen chips and onion rings and fried eggs up top. Your meat looked good.
Wow a steak that's from a country with great food standards for an absolute bargain price. Thank you so much my daughter asked for steak this weekend so we are off to home bargains. Agree pepper after it has a little more kick.
Here in Sydney 🦘 we used to get our 300gm Rump Steaks from all our major grocery stores for $6.00 Now they are 250gm for $8.00. ALDI have a very good tasting range of Australian beef, issue is that they are not easily accessible in some areas. Great video as always!
The 1st time I went to Florida which was many years ago me and my ex missus went to a steak house and we both ordered well done Steak and the waitress said you mean RUINED🤣
🤣 That Christmas Elf is a busy guy , I'm amazed how he gets around. My granddaughter loves it. I'm going to show her your Elf , how he is just all over the place . Very nice . 👏👏👏👏 Take care from 🇨🇦 Your neighbours on the other side of the pond.
Hi Gareth...I think you're getting the hang of cooking, you seem to be enjoying it more, and that's key. Looking forward to seeing you tonight... about what time?
Wow, what a bargain cut, must get myself one next time I go past home bargains. I must also get a cast iron skillet, I cocked up a T-Bone because I got greedy and never realised my pan wasn't big enough and the heat spread was a mess.
Get the pan into the sink with water and soap in it while its still warm. It's far easier to clean it if you don't let it cool down first. Steak looked perfect for me too, I want one for dinner now 😂
5:46 I find it useful to drizzle some washing-up liquid into the pan while it's still hot, followed by a small splash of water to create a foam. The frothing foam will "lift" a lot of of the fat and caramelised bits from the bottom of the pan, making it easier to wash. Leaving the pan to cool gives the fat/burnt bits time to bind with the pan, making it slightly harder to clean.
Sorry, that's bad advice, especially with a cast iron pan. The fats or oil will molecularly bond with the iron forming a polymer. It's that which creates the naturally non-stick surface. There is no need to use soap in a seasoned cast iron pan. In fact, it should be avoided.
@@phillwatson9274 Thanks for the advice. However, I've been using this technique for nigh-on thirty years and it's never caused me any problems. Perhaps it's because I don't think I've got any seasoned cast-iron pans. I have a seasoned wok, on which I never use soap.
I always find Irish beef in the UK to be of poor quality and seems to always find it's way in to the cheaper shops, But when you have a proper quality Irish steak in Ireland it's completely different. Always remove the steak from it's plastic 30 mins before cooking to get rid the smell of it being packaged and never put butter on the meat in a screaming hot pan, the butter will burn and ruin the meat.
God, that steak looks good. I use Garlic butter and I use white pepper, has a slightly different strength to black pepper, it's finer like salt so no need to crack peppercorns but it can flow out a container quickly. I ruined a cast iron pan as a teenager, I refuse to have cast iron since what I do do tho it while the pan is hot I add some oil swirl it around and wipe out all debris gone, then when it's cold I can safely wash it. My nephew taught me to clean pans that had food stuff sticking to it just by using good old fashioned cheap salt, hot water and letting it boil.... Then it's easy to clean, no scourers needed. Thank you for review, I am now officially hungry for steak n mushrooms....
I don't know what cut of American steak would be comparable to your rump steak, we don't have rump steak, but i see no marbling in that meat, no fat running through it like my favorite, the bone in ribeye. The steaks I buy are spider webbed with fat which makes them juicy and tender. Too much red lean on that steak for me, it would be like eating an old army boot.
Steak and eggs Breakfast for American Astronauts way back in the day😊 It's a simple meat 🥩 grill or fry season with salt'n'pepper and a rub of the garlic 😊 As you said Gareth. Portion of chips, fried eggs . I'll eat any steak but i agree ribeye❤. Over the last few videos you have found some good stuff for as all.Keep it going. All the best Allan&Family PS i'd gte some traps down for those elves, or you'll be over run by Christmas
Another great video. I'm off to get 1 of these today as a Birthday treat for myself. That does look amazing. Got to have some onions with it though and a lot of cracked black pepper.
Good afternoon I tried the big daddy one 160z rump got to admit I pan fried it medium rare and it's one of the best steaks I have had and I have had lot of different ones over time and the price spot on
Hi mate..always look out for your reviews..they are packed full of information..and an honest opinion given..tried lots of food due to your reviews..and they have all been exceptional..Keep up the good workbyou do..Cheers mate
You're getting to be a dab hand at cooking steaks. It's about time I tried a steak again. For me it's got to be rib eye as well. I'm going to add some butter next time as well.
Hi Gareth. That steak looked next level. For that price, I was surprised. Looked excellent value for money. Got to get myself down to Home bargains soon.. Keep up the spot on work. Best wishes from Scotland.
The Home Bargains steak is the best value for money I have found. Morrison's cheap steak is cheaper than Aldi's, and B&M is cheaper still. I use it for stir-fry 🙂
that steak looks really nice - shame as dont think there are any Home Bargain supernarkets down here on the South Coast as far as I know 🤨after you take the steak out of the pan we always used to wipe the pan with a nice piece of bread on the residue it was always well tasty - yes with some chips and eggs delicious 🥰
Always happy to learn of a steak potentially worth trying. Also, so happy about the Iceland black pudding review, tried them this week and for me they may well be the best supermarket option out there and a bargain, absolute bag full of little blood hockey pucks!
After hard sausage in soggy batter ("I don't mind soggy batter") you deserve this one. Don't put pepper on while cooking because, depending on the temp, pepper burns. The pepper flavour goes down as its volatile aromatic ( C17H19NO3) is driven off by temp. Pepper as it rests, the warmth will loosen up the aromatics and make available the maximum quantity and quality of pepper flavours. Now you know.
I need to get to Home Bargains now Gaz. Regarding Aldi steak, I find they can have quite a bit of sinew running through them. I can see you are enjoying that one - Spot-On as you say.
I am not a butcher, so I may be way off target here, but to me, that looks more like a picanha than a rump steak, and I would be more inclined to braise it than fry it. It is still from the animal’s rump, so it’s not wrong to say it’s rump, but it’s from further up than what we call rump steak in this country, and not quite as tender as frying steak. I wonder if that is why it says “Not for EU” on the packaging - do they have to call it something else to avoid confusion? Still a great bargain at that price, though. I didn’t see the Christmas party last night, I had to go out, but I hope you enjoyed it. 😀🎄

Lovely steak that , looks really appetising! On a warm baguette with onions and a little bit of Colmans mustard ! 🤤 I'll try and pop on tonight and say hello 👋
If that steak was any more relaxed it'd be snoring. Yes, it's much better to do it that way and leave it for a while after cooking. It's more juicy, for mine. Now I fancy a steak too but it's 4 in the morning here! Glad you enjoyed yours.
Nice one. Looked good. Ill have a nosey, there's a home bargains not too far away. So £2.20 CHEAPER than two sausages, two rashers of bacon and a mass produced yorkshire pudding. Hmm, no contest. (I'll stop moaning about that wrap eventually) (Probably)

I'd have put a little more oil in that pan and after add some finely chopped onion. Fry them off and add some water and the juices. A little cornflower, salt and pepper and you have some gravy! Dip yer bread!
Never considered Home Bargains for steak. Just setting off right now for half a dozen. Bargain of the month at that price and quality. Thank you!
Hope you enjoy
Hi Gaz! That’s great value for £2.79, looked good too! I’m like you, I like Ribeye steak, it has great flavour!
Told ya some weeks ago about these. Said they were good. Next time when your resting your steak, wrap it in foil. Makes it even more tender and keeps it warm 👍 At these prices, i have one every week.
I find rump usually has more flavour than sirloin.
That's because it's come from near the animal's a*se! 🤣
Same
with vacuum packed steaks it is good idea, when you take from the fridge, to take it out of the pack and then let it come to room temperature. let it breathe a bit.
Season it well first, it will slowly be drawn into the steak.

Salt draws moisture out, plenty of butter in the pan, basting all the time…

hi Gaz, great video, these steaks remind me of the Berni inns where we used to get steak chips and a fried egg. followed by black forest gateau.
The 1st time I went to Florida which was many years ago me and my ex missus went to a steak house and we both ordered well done Steak and the waitress said you mean RUINED🤣
10-12 minutes!! It’ll be like Ghandi’s flip flop 🙄
Hide your elves in the fridge to to make your kids jump ! Still makes my two laugh and they're in their 20's !
Great review Gaz 👍♥️ What a bargain steak, one for the son's menu 🤤😋 Have lovely day, and fun tonight ❤

That was lovely looking piece of steak. Enjoy eating it and wish I had a steak to eat now with a side of mustard mmmm x
Great timing on the video Gaz as the wife is off to Home Bargins today for a few things so will definitely look out for these 👍
Nice one mate
16oz rump steak iceland £6 eat one a day 'barrrrgin'
Hi Gareth...I think you're getting the hang of cooking, you seem to be enjoying it more, and that's key. Looking forward to seeing you tonight... about what time?
Lovely steak, good price for it.
Wow, what a bargain cut, must get myself one next time I go past home bargains. I must also get a cast iron skillet, I cocked up a T-Bone because I got greedy and never realised my pan wasn't big enough and the heat spread was a mess.
Only clean such pan/skillet using oil and coarse salt, never water! 😮
I've bought the sirloin version from home bargains, not cooked it yet, looking forward to it now 😁
There is no home bargains near me. Perhaps they'll open one next year 🤔
I love a good steak with pepper sauce, chunky chips and veggies 😋
Wow that 🥩 look absolutely delicious 😋 and cooked to perfection.. well done Gaz 👍
Get the pan into the sink with water and soap in it while its still warm. It's far easier to clean it if you don't let it cool down first.
Steak looked perfect for me too, I want one for dinner now 😂
Cheers pal
Please don't use soap on a caste iron pan.
Hot water, soft cloth. Then a re-oil.
@@smeghead7698yep, the whole cast iron seasoning nightmare… I swerve to cast aluminium, and if I’m feeling lucky/ cocky ….stainless steel.. 😢
Thanks bald guy could of done it yesterday 😂 I bought 2 bits at morrisons 12 quid this morning 😢😢❤
Yep, we've had those a few times and the minced beef is good too, Gaz👍. Irish beef usually is pretty darn good, imo🤤
Cheers Jon, yes pretty good mate. 👍
Irish beef is very high standards, as they are in the EU and grow a lot of grass. 😊
Irish beef is very bad for you. Highest cancer rate in the world because they use pesticides on their grass ect.
Its the Christmas Do! 🎉🥳 I'll be trying that steak Gareth, thanks for the tip! 👍

How do you clean your pan?
I just use hot water and kitchen roll to clean mine. Then give it a light oiling.
Only ever oil and coarse salt for cast iron pans, never water! 😮
Few mushrooms, some pepper corn sauce and chunky chips to go with it 😋
You are right to pepper at the end as it burns easily! Rump always my favorite - even if it's a bit chewy!👍
doesn't need to be chewy, just twat it with a hammer for 30 seconds. Tastes the same and texture is improved.
That looks like a right bargain.
The only meat I have now is pork, liver and chicken......you can boil them, I would have that steak with tomato's and well done.
Gareth I tried the Big Daddy steak from Aldi last night - it was fantastic! Thanks.👍👍
You're welcome 😊
A nice little steak but not enough for a decent meal, 16oz, (450-500gm) the bare minimum!😎
I think they should rename "Well done" to "Terribly done" .... should be made illegal, steak should still be winking at you on the plate 😁

That steak with fried onions on a baguette = Heaven plus some chips of course!
Give it a press down every now and then to make sure you're getting the most contact with the pan, just don't slide it around 😊
Never do that, you lose all the juices and flavour. Bit of rosemary goes down well with it too.
Noooo you never mess with a steak while cooking it you only touch it once and that's when you turn it over 😊

Try and get yourself some Bart Steak Seasoning next time you cook a Steak Gaz.It's lovely stuff Mate.See you later on the Live
Yes I've run out of Seasoning mate, cheers
I love a nice Sirloin steak myself. But I would certainly buy this bit of rump.
It was a lovely looking piece of meat.
Sometimes rump can be a bit tough. Some people go mad on it with a meat mallet to tenderise it. A good tip is to mix some baking soda in some water. Soak the steak in it for about 15 to 20 minutes. Then give it a good rinse and cook to your liking. I like my steaks quite rare and not over cooked.
This was a great item to review mate. And it was a great price to boot.
When I’m a bit low on shopping cash? I will sometimes buy a couple of medallion steaks. They are cheap and surprisingly tasty.
Maybe you should give them a review ? 🤔🤔.

Yes my mum used to use a meat mallet when I was young. Probably on my dad 🤣 cheers Gerry.
Mariante in fruit juice for 15-20 minutes..
Lovely steak that , looks really appetising! On a warm baguette with onions and a little bit of Colmans mustard ! 🤤 I'll try and pop on tonight and say hello 👋
It seems that the steak was injected with a water sugar solution based on the carb and sugar info..this helps tenderize the meat...
Been getting these for years , can't beat home bargains 👍

Loòks good even though you say you are not a cook. And like you I would have it on a baguette with fried onions and with a bit of mustard also.
Thats good value and I will be trying one for sure. I like to make a stew using a rump steak so will be trying this next week
Thanks for another honest review 💜💜💜

Looks fantastic Gareth,I've started doing my steaks in the air fryer and I'm very happy with the way it's cooked, another good one big pal
Cheers, will have to try it
You can do steaks in the air fryer?!?!? I never knew that
RUMP STEAK!!!??? HOMEBARGAINS???!!! OMG!!! Thanks So much for this one! 😋👍.... Gelatinous?! 😉😂

Try the Wagyu steak in Aldi. I know it's expensive at £25 but it is Xmas.
Good reminder! I get Aldi steak as I'm totally carnivore, and on one meal a day, but the smaller rib eyes are also OK with eggs to make a full meal.
@@lat1419It does look incredible. The amount of marbling in it is unreal. Perfect for a one off occasion.
Looks nice the steak I use to eat meat until it got to expensive in Australia 🇦🇺 to buy thanks for the video
Thanks for watching!
