@@arthurraymond6239 Yes, that habit of walking to the middle of the kitchen and holding up the plate has always bugged me a bit. Could Gareth have a small folding table and a stool perhaps? The dining area is best, but of course the rest of the family may be using it.
Worth every penny, Gareth! We bought two last week for a treat as part of a main meal, and it was gorgeous!!!!!! You get what you bung for, at the end of the day, and as a special treat, well worth the price!!!!!
@@scottneil1187 well take into consideration all the ingredients then of course how long you'd have to cook that meat for and the price that would cost in gas or electric it's not a bad price.
Great Review, I'd rather pay the extra few quid for something as good as that than some of the cheap crap that is in the stores . like you could pay that for a burger made of god knows what.
Hi Gareth. It looks good. I live on my own and buy casserole beef, carrots onions, celery, leeks and mushrooms at a cost of the same or slightly less than £6. Marinate the beef overnight in herbs etc. Fry beef off; add veg and put in slow cooker 8 hours on low. It’s delicious and I get 2 meals out of it.
I knew it was going to be good ‘cos you told us in the thumbnail (again !). Shin used to be cheap meat to buy but not anymore. M&S, not cheap but you’re paying for quality. 10/10. A must try.
I'm the same, always use the smell test, not the date. The only things where I do go by the date is for stuff like shellfish, because that can make you seriously ill, so it's not worth the risk!
Used to use shin and oxtail in all my slow cooked beef dishes before both cuts became 'fashionable' because it was so cheap. Now it's as expensive as the majority of premium beef cuts. Mr and the lads at my local butchers were talking about it too long ago. They blame Jamie Oliver !! Poor old Jamie, he does get some stick.. 😂😂😂😂. Looked good mate. Stay safe.
just had this for supper tonight and it's absolutely delicious, well worth £6. I shared it with hubby, added mashed potatoes, roasties and green beans and it was plenty for two. Top quality from M&S as always.
Gareth, you crack me up! You read the spiel on the front of the pack, including the 'keep flat' bit and within the next minute or so you tipped it on it's side to read the back 🤣😂🤣😂
Looks delightful -- nice to see some actual onions and carrot-y looking carrots, instead of mystery bits, wallowing in that sauce. No need for added "slippage juice" neither, eh? Haven't tried the celeraic mash, but I can easily imagine parsnip mash in there, or roasted sweet potatoes with sage, or large white beans with rosemary. Even a piece of sausage wouldn't be blasphemous. I've no trouble with out-of-date foods as long as they pass inspection; as a frequent user of food banks I often encounter stuff that's past its sell-by date -- that's why it's at the food bank. And raw vegetables have no date -- it's "consumer beware".
Great review! Celeriac is a beautiful if underrated vegetable. Have you tried kohlrabi? Absolutely beautiful when roasted. A fantastic addition or even a substitution for potato if you're trying to lower carb loading!
I would prefer to spend £6 on a hearty meal like this all those fragrant veg and that gravy made using the red wine butter and the juices from that shin of well cooked beef is enough to make anybody's mouth water especially with it getting colder in the evenings now it's just what the doctor ordered.
*Oh My Goodness- Spectacular M+S Beef Shin - Phwwooaar 😮👌👌💯🔥* Celeriac mash I am sure was a great accompaniment. Perfect, inviting, appetite inducing heavenly food..well done
Its been my understanding that any food use by date allows for a further 3 days for consumption if fresh and freezing extends the date depending on the type of product IE fish/meat/bread - i know a lot of people think youve got to throw stuff out if its gone a day over the use by date , its probably something worth looking into - great review as always 😃
Shin and Brisket used to be very cheap but not anymore. Me and my late wife used to buy a lot of M&S Gastropub range 10 years ago, used to come in blue packages.
Wow looks great , you get 2hat you pay for , but M& S perhaps add 10% on . Sometimes ALDI do a pretty good equivalent but not always . At least avoid Iceland their stuff is mainly terrible .
Great review, M&S may be a tad expensive, however you definitely get your money’s worth! And loads cheaper than a restaurant or pub meal, so well worth the treat now and then
Quality always costs more, and while M&S have dropped a notch or two on some items. That looked fabulous. Your added celeriac mash was a great use of leftovers. Has to be said mate, you looked a very very happy man. A man with a fork & a mission. Got to be honest, I used to cook shin of beef for about 4hrs plus. Depending on how large it was. Was good to see a 2nd top marks. Brilliant. 😊😊😊❤👍👌👏 Let's see if we can get a hat-trick🤔😵💫Grand video Gareth, see you in the next video Allan&Family
I must say Gareth, that looks really good. I love what used to be tough old cuts of meat done long and slow. Now Sparks have got hold of it, I will definitely give this a try. Thanks.
That looks absolutely mouth watering! 😋😋 I haven't tried Celeriac in years. A friend gave me a recipe, years ago, where she steamed it and then served it in a Yoghurt/Vinegar dressing and it was wonderful. Think I'll give the mash a go, looks great too!
can't argue M&S do use quality ingredients and the factories used have to be immaculate having worked in one producing there products so you really pay for that but the results speak for themselves
@johnmarkrobinson2924 possibly produced at the same factory you will be surprised just how much stuff is produced on the same site using same produce while some stores want exclusive only there products packed many and M&S used to not sure now would if the production factory was up to there standard use places that produced for many supermarkets and worked in many places that if we ran out of say one stores products if there was some left from the other use that as it was basically the same not sure it would happen today but who knows 🤣
Maybe some will say six quid is expensive? I think this turned out like a restaurant quality meal, so I think it's great value. Even the ' make it yourself ' crowd aren't going to come in any cheaper than this. I will admit that I do cook a joint of beef in my slow cooker and my local butcher throws in some marrow bones to give it that oomph flavour. I do infuse some red wine into the meat as well. But it takes hours of cooking. So yeah, this is a great review and worth the extra few bob. I'm still recovering from my visit to the ICU so I can't get to our M+S, but my neighbour does, so I've asked her to get me one. And you are not paying extra for a chef to have his/her name attached, like the fancy pie. A great review m8 👍👍.

It looks good and not bad for the price if you consider how much you would pay for that if you were eating out at a pub or restaurant. So for a treat it looks very nice.
Shin is one of the cheaper cuts (or offcuts) of beef, but is one of the tastiest. It does need cooking long and slow, but makes a fantastic stew or pie filling.
It looks looks lovely thankyou for keeping me entertained while I’m in hospital recovering from a kidney stone operation hope you and your family are well

Costly ok but if you consider that compared to say one of the more expensive burgers from McDonalds is it?
Watcha Gaz. I've grown celeriac in the past, but by heck they have lots of roots, but very tasty. I'll eat it raw in salad or cooked - mash or roasted. I'll have to get some braising steak and whack it in the slow cooker to make a nice casserole like that. Mind how you go mate ❤
Gareth you startled me with intro normally say u hope we are all spot on then tell us u been shopping 😅. Great review yet again and my chance to ask if you are spot on.
£6 seems a rip off for that, it's only 500 calories. The thing is that's not a rip-off because look at the quality of it, it's just amazing and I'm not even eating it, I can tell from looking at it. Same with the £7 pie recently. Absolute top quality. I'm the guy that keeps saying Iceland is a rip off and it is, because although their prices are going to be way cheaper than this for this sort of thing, it sure as hell won't have the quality of this or the £7 pie. I don't mind stuff being expensive if there's a reason for it.
Proper comfort food for a dark cold winter night

Not necessarily. See my comment above.
