Great video straight to the point, I'm doing this proactively as well as the skip shift. The lady stopping with no stop sign is great too, we love to see it.
This has been a popular topic in the Facebook groups lately, so good thing you got it fixed. Many have mentioned that they still needed to do the "brown wire mod" as you briefly mentioned. Appreciate the shout out for the event. We're stoked to do it again and hopefully it's successful like last time. See you soon.
When I read the instructions (I'll have to go back and look again) it seems the brown wire mod is rare and limited to only a few years. I think it might have been the '98-'99 manuals? I can say that any of GMs recalls were not done on my car and it went 45k mi/18 years before I had any issues, but I've also heard of it happening within the first 10k mi. I would suggest if anyone even remotely thinks this might happen to them, just get the kit and do it. It's peace of mind for $40+shipping.
Hi, i'm from Italy. I have a C5 2003. At the moment i haven't this problem, but i'm interested to buy this kit for the future. I ve seen your video, but i don't understand what i have to remove above the bcm module. I m not so skill to translate what you have said (minutes 2.30 ->). Can you help me?
I have to double check on which fuse number, but if you mean in the very beginning, then I pulled the fuse in order to force the steering wheel to remain unlocked. My steering wheel would lock when the car was turned off - as it was meant to work - and this kit removes that feature altogether. To do this kit, the wheel needs to be unlocked before install.
@@iDriveDaily Understood, but is unlocking the wheel as simple as pulling a fuse ? I was under the impression they sold a separate kit for that contingency.
If your wheel is currently locked and will not unlock and remain unlocked on it's own, you need to purchase that kit. I did buy one, but ended up not using it. If your wheel functions normally (turn the car off, wheel locks, turn the car on, wheel unlocks) then all you need to do is turn the car on (accessory) to unlock the wheel, pull the fuse and then turn the car off. The wheel will remain unlocked.
Since you daily drive your Vette, does leaving it at work all day make the interior real hot with that clear targa top? How do you deal with it? Also have you had any rattle issues with it? Both are things I'm dealing with my C5 but I do not drive mine everyday.
So it does get pretty hot. Due to the location of where I work, we've had to change parking arrangements since COVID and I now park in direct sun. I used to park under the shaded side of the building. It's rare that I find the heat unbearable, so I haven't really done much about it. I can say that since I've tinted my windows I've felt it helped quite a bit, blocking sun from other locations. I would imagine a front window shade would help as well, but I've never been a person to use one. Unsure what you could do about the clear targa top. As for a rattle, is it more consistent or does it seem to come at accelerations? If it comes at accelerations and feels like it is near the engine or in front of you and is kind of metallic, I believe it could be the exhaust hangers. In my case, I've had it since I bought the car and since the hangers are in the middle underneath, I've not gotten a chance to take a look. If you think this might be your issue as I do (not totally sure), there are two things you could do. You could buy new hangers and replace them, but will likely experience the failure in a few years, you could wrap them in a material (there are yt videos, I forget the material they used) or you could use a third hanger to "pinch" the two old ones tighter together. There's a video for that as well, which is likely what I will try. Not sure if this helps, but the hangers come to mind as they are a commonly known part to age.
Did it a couple years ago to my 2001, easy install, took 30 minutes tops. Had a question before the install, called LMC and they couldn't be more helpful, nice talking to someone that isn't on a script.
Great video, is this a permanent fix to your c5? I just got mine today and the steering column lock problem happened right after I bring the car home, I guess I need to fix this ASAP
@@v8inmk2 hi I'm curious did it work out for you I just got my Corvette less than a month ago and it just started to do this I hope you were able to fix yours and everything is good I guess it's my turn now LOL

I did not make it this year. Kinda bummed seeing all the photos, so I'm making sure to plan to go next year. I imagine there is a way to get rid of the display message using the compliance parts kit (possibly using the brown wire). I also wonder if it might be the relay that I unplugged in the video and left dangling. The people at compliance parts were really nice when I had some shipping issues and I've heard they are quite friendly when you have installation questions, so it might be worth asking if the message bothers you. If the steering lock has not been bypassed or disabled, I'd suggest the compliance parts kit as its not bad to install except for the awkward location. I also suggest the kit because I had a bad experience being stuck at work... Were you able to make Carlisle?
ill have to do a little more research on it. crazy as it sounds, it seems to only like to do it on really hot days. as much as i would love to go to carlisle it would be a bit of a drive from texas, maybe one day if i can convince dave to let me sleep in his driveway. haha

Yes. It is permanent. The guys at Compliance Parts are super helpful and it should cost you around $100 and maybe an hour and a half of your time.

Do the brown wire no matter what, because if it acts up then you’ll be stranded for something you could have just avoided.
