During my college years in dumaguete (Silliman U was the best days of my life)... in 1988-1993, the average temp. was about 29 degrees celius. Air condition is not wideky used only electric fan.. We can even comfortably sleep w/o any fan in our dormitory... Now, 34 is normal... Global warming the key factor... 🥵
There are only a few areas in US that don't have sweltering heat and humidity in the summers. The cooler places are unaffordable to guys like me. I really dont mind the heat in the Philippines, I just go from an air conditioned car to an air conditioned restaurant. As far as the weather goes I enjoy a good storm, living as I do in the desert of Arizona it's a welcome event. I was living in Cebu when Yolanda devastated a lot of the PI and my roof flew off to points north! As far as expats behaving badly, Iv'e seen it and its ugly, thankfully these are isolated incidents. As well as baggage I think a lot of frustration comes from not having enough money, or jealous of ones who do.
The quality of food in Dumaguette is questionable, even if it’s French or Japanese. I’ve been there. Yes, the noise from the traffic is the worst in the county. More importantly, the lack of pedestrian facilities is consistent with a developing nation.
I agree brother of different mother as another one of those Dumaguete area Expats who chose to live here. Most don't realize the biggest population of foreigners are the students at Silliman followed by the guests from the Asian countries of China and South Korea as i had long conversation with an immigration officer on this very subject as we actually are a small demographic of the city most of us being over 60 as Senior citizens. but as we stand out more it is super important for us to be happy and humble and try to blend in more rather than stand out. The biggest is to leave everyone or almost all with a positive image so the next encounter they have won't be tainted with negativity. Interesting how i came from an area in USA where we had allot of migrants and now being here it's like the shoe is on the other foot so i understand how they felt. Be Happy and may you live long and prosper
Dumaguete was nice, but for me home is where the heart is. She's from Luzon... 😅. The difference between Luzon and Negros is the innocence and amount of caring if the women. My Asawa and I are inseparable. We wouldn't take separate vacations or consider cheating. Everything else is a mix... Plus and minus But I'm here for finding a spouse. The thing many get wrong in Dumaguete is dating. A good girl will only date to evaluate the suitability of marriage. So between pollution and the women, Dumaguete is not for me. Good luck Alex!!
I’ll probably visit Dumaguete someday but won’t end up living there because of my hemophilia. Cebu and The Thrilla In Manila will serve me much better. Great video!
That’s a great question Maurice. A friend of mines wife is actually from Quebec as well, lovely people. There are many wonderful options outside of the cities but it usually comes with some trade offs as well. I usually suggest a discovery trip to get a sense of what’s on offer before committing to a move.

@EasternDreamer615 I felt very out of place there and I don't know why so many of these guys get triggered easily. Often I'd do filming up and down the boulevard and some would do immature things to provoke me or whatever if they saw they got in my video. These guys don't look happy to me, are grumpy and have issues. I am a younger part Filipino/part western Canadian. There are so many better places in Philippines to be like Bohol, Siagao, Tagaytay being my favourites. I couldn't wait to get out of there after 5 days.
I like that Alex is true to his personality, He's not trying to act like an entertainer, That's why he's going to have successful channel, He's just himself, He's not trying too hard
I think Dumaguete is extremely over-hyped, over-rated and over-promoted by expats. In reality it's boring, has very poor commercial infrastructure and services. Constant brownouts and Internet failures. The one-way roads system is confusing and just causes more traffic jams than Cebu city. Very disappointed once I saw it first hand and can't wait to leave next year.
Dumaguete like any place on the globe is not perfect and like anything, anywhere, there are pros and cons. That's up to each individual to assess those. For me, currently, it works to use as a home base. It's not my end spot to live forever, but the mix here, some expats, and lots of locals, an actual grocery store, and some other things we all take for granted as westerners, makes adapting to a different culture a bit easier for a newbie to the Philippines. Same thing with the weather...there are very few places on the globe that are considered "perfect" weather/climate and again, that's subjective. Here, and in general it's just different then wherever, whatever you are used to. Same with "inclement" storms or other such things, there are risks unique to most places across the globe and that's changing rapidly. After living across some really wide swaths of the North American continent and a fair amount of traveling to foreign destinations, I've had a taste of most of it at some point. My general take on this video and in general, life, is that you have to have an open mind about things, embrace both the good and the bad, eliminate as much of the negative as you can and just enjoy the positive aspects...to the best of your abilities. Many people I've found over my life have preconceived notions of perfection, bliss, their very own Nirvana yet very, very few people ever find that heightened state of awareness and contentment. Life and reality can be harsh and cruel at times, we have all felt it at some point in time. For me...I'm always thankful that I've got what I have and I know things could have turned out much differently for me, maybe better and certainly it could have been much worse. If something or someone or whatever is disappointing to me...I try to think to myself, "it could always be worse." This attitude has helped me much over the last 35+ years of my life, to enjoy the little things as well as the big things when they come my way.
Happiness is an internal thing. I agree with you Kevin. It is easier for me to choose happiness here in Dumaguete. The people are cheerful, the sun is glowing, and it’s overall an incredible place to live.

@EasternDreamer615 Alex, thank you so much. I both like and respect you. I know you have an extensive vocabulary, thus I wondered why you chose 'not like' over _dislike_ . I prefer _dislike_ for 3 reasons : 1 - _dislike_ is more direct, and, generally, one word is better than two 2 - _dislike_ is the pure form, it's correct, and doesn't require negation by _not_ 3 - _dislike_ is always negative, whereas 'not like' is often negative, but can also be neutral; the meaning can be unclear.
