The Shadows - Apache

- This is the 6th video in this series, taken from a recent two day recording session for a Shadows album one of my bands is working on.
Apache is an absolute beauty of a track, I guess the most famous of all The Shadows tracks. The original drum part is wonderful, and blends with the rest of the band perfectly. It's huge fun to play, and whenever I've performed this live (which I have done on many occasions now) it always goes down a treat. I have always loved the full stop that comes in near the end - the snare note ringing out suddenly in total silence. When the band gets this spot on live, it is a real goosebump moment. The whole thing is an intricate drum performance, and I absolutely love playing it.
The backing track is original Shadows, with the drums (mostly) removed. So what you hear on this video is 95% my drums, and just a few artefacts from the original drums. I used XTrax Stems II software. Please listen with quality headphones if you can!

Ha! Ha! Thanks mate! The splashing hi hat is a key feature of a lot of these Shadows tracks, and really brings them to life. Problem is, it can make it very tricky to play!!! The 'Small Music Shack' is actually supposed to be the 'Garden Room' and I'm not supposed to put my drums in it 😂 My wife gives me grief if I leave the kit set up in there more than a week! But it is perfect for these UA-cam videos and showing the kit off 😉
This reminded me of the old RUSH video where they're playing in Neils house with the big windows and all the snow.

What's the notation for the snare drum rolls? Thanks
Hello again. Which particular snare rolls are we talking about here? I'm guessing you mean the triplet rolls? RLLR RLLR RLLR etc, where the R is accented and the LL is ghosted, all in a triplet feel. Sorry, my ability to describe my playing via drum notation is limited to say the least as I learn and play. everything by ear and have not had formal lessons :)
