  • Here is the third video in this series, taken from a recording session I did last week for a Shadows album I am working on with one of my bands.
    Very up-tempo and with lots of stops, stabs, accents and things, it's a hard one to keep on top of memory-wise. It feels like everything is coming up really fast and you have to keep thinking a few bars ahead. Brian Bennett of course looks lovely and relaxed playing this, with his wonderful touch and style. For me, it's a full-on purple faced couple of minutes, as I struggle to capture the essence of what he played.
    The backing track is original Shadows, with the drums (mostly) removed. So what you hear on this video is 95% my drums, and just a few artefacts from the original drums. I used XTrax Stems II software. Please listen with quality headphones if you can!
    More tracks from this session on their way - FBI, Apache, Footapper, Kon Tiki, Man of Mystery, and hopefully Savage (depends how it works out!). I hope you enjoy.
    Drum Tec Shells, Pearl Mimic Pro Module, ATV Artist cymbals, Porter & Davies BC Gigster.

      Thank you so much! Yes, I like the sound of this kit for these songs - the snare has a lovely snap and ring, and the deep toms give me goosebumps 😊

      Ha! Ha! That's very funny 😂 I've often wondered about lurkers. I get a lot of views and have a fair few subscribers, but seem to get comparatively few comments. I'm chuffed you finally felt the urge to comment, and humbled you've been watching my videos for a while. Thank you 😊 There's another 6 Shads videos coming, all from the recording last week. Some very exciting and challenging ones too 😳 Next one will be on Saturday.......

      Thank you 😊 Do you mean which kit sound? I assume you do. These Shadows recordings are currently using a kit which is based mostly on a VEX expansion kit - I think it is the 'Maple Works', but with a 'Bonham' snare sound off the VEX 'Bonzo' kit in the Origins expansion. I can't recall off the top of my head whether Maple Works is from the Origins or Surreal or Pro expansion - I have all three. I have tweaked the sound of the kit in various ways so it is not really a original VEX kit anymore; and swopped rides and splashes out - so it is a more difficult question to answer than it might seem!!!! If you want more detailed info let me know what you want to know and I will go check exactly what I'm using 😊

      It's funny, but I always have to concentrate so hard when playing any of these Shads tracks live, it is hard to enjoy it as you play it. And the start of Dance On is very difficult to get spot on, with the whole band. But when the track finishes, yes, I can relax again and the audience is always very happy 😊

      @@jouxplan You do look a little tense at the beginning here, but a nice sigh of relief at the end and a smiling "that's it". But I smiled through the whole song 😎😊

    Awesome job ! I love your hihat game !
    Is your drum throne really useful ? (I mean, the bass woofer under it !) I always wondered if it was a game changer, or not :)

    • @jouxplan
      @jouxplan  4 роки тому

      I think I might have already replied to you on FB with the same comment? Or I am losing my mind! 😂 In case it is the latter - the Porter & Davies drum throne is absolutely a game changer and it transforms the playing experience. You really 'feel' the kick and even the toms and snare. This is particularly great when playing live with a band - the bass player now does not drown out my kick and I can play with much more finesse and know and feel that the bass drum is being played and is heard. It's wonderful. BTW, it is not so much a 'sub woofer' as a 'vibrating' throne. You feel the vibration of the deeper bass tones of your kit. This is adjustable. Best addition to my kit ever 😊
