I think landing a fish on a fly feels more rewarding, put tossing a spinner is more versatile but then again, fishing with a stick and a string is a better technique than sitting on the couch.
I use a 7' ultra light spinning rod which gives it almost that fly rod feel when landing fish. Plus it allows me to throw streamers as well. Fly fishing is great, but it feels like it has almost become and elite cult where I live. Lots of the fly guys look down on the spin fisherman. I handle fish with care, pinch barbs down, etc. Just strange. I'll keep my spinning rod and keep catching more fish. Great video. His stuff is always entertaining.
Lure fishing is no way near as versatile then fly mate, show me a size 22 midge lure you can cast on a spin rod when a midge hatch is on, and try and catch that fish that’s selecting feeding with a lure and not to mention you can’t a metal silver spoon and catch trout where the Action and all the hard work is done for you literally the only skill is casting placement where fly fishing every box has to be ticked so it makes it so much more rewarding. Especially here in Australia where we average brown trout around the 5-8lb mark.
CommentBoxParticipant2980 honestly that’s just wrong tho, you can seriously put a fly in almost any place, even the places you cant cast spinning gear.so maybe you don’t know what your talking about but your information is wrong, also look at a roll cast, it allows you to cast with trees right behind you. And even if there are people that close to you it isn’t close enough to make a difference in anything unless they are being stupid and scaring the fish, I do prefer to fly fish not around people but if you are it’s not like it will make a difference in your casting.
CommentBoxParticipant2980 y’all need to chill, each way has their pros and cons. Shouldn’t be out here trying to one up each other just get in the water and have fun how you want
OK, just learning to fish. Watching Jordan's knot come loose at the 2:45 mark made my day. Says heaps about my character, huh? But it's so good to watch the pros screw up and just laugh and tie a new leader in about 10 seconds. It's THIS type of stuff I really appreciate about Addicted--watching real fishing, how to handle things. Love this channel. Just love it.
I just recently found these videos. As a guy that works in video production, these are very well done! Jordan, keep up the good work and keep 'em coming. As a novice fisherman, G-d knows I need all the help I can get!
all methods have their time and place. I've been fly fishing and spin fishing since I was a small kid. Tying flies and making lures for almost as long. There is no "superior" way to fish. The more versatile an angler you can be, the better you can adapt to whatever variables mother nature brings. Some times it is just more pleasant and enjoyable to fly fish, some times the same for spin fishing. Anyone who is an elitist to any one method of fishing is a fool.
@Austin Ivey Same!! I use flies on my spinner rod, almost the same way i use power bait with no weight. Just toss it slightly up stream, let it drift passed some good looking structure or shadows, and wait for that line to go tight!
It’s so cute how Little is so into fishing too. Some niceeee bows! I’m a spinner girl at heart and have only fly fished once but never caught anything. Maybe once I do that’ll change my mind.
Fly all the way! Just started stillwater fishing last year and it is so much fun. I bought Hal Janssen's Stillwater book last year and have learned a lot about stillwater fishing. I use a fiberglass old school Fenwick rod and learned how to tie my own leaders. Really informative and I actually catch fish now lol. Thank you for this video, love it!!
Great challenge! I have fished both over the years. I think if you had used a soft plastic jig on the spinner rod it would have been a more even challenge. I tend to lean to the spinner rods here in Georgia because in many of the places I fish casting a fly rod is almost impossible.
New to fishing. Still looking for the opportunity to go out and fish. But our weather has been insanely hot. Love the style of fly fishing, its definitely an art of it own. Keep up the fun video's.
Fly all the way......unless you need dinner ! Still waiting for an episode on filming and editing your fishing adventures staring Shawn the invisible man. Bruce@Palmer, AK
When are you dudes coming to Idaho? Recently relocated to Boise from Texas, and I can't get enough... I'm Addicted! Great connect! I'm thoroughly entertained, educated, and inspired!!
Here in Montana it is like the archery vrs gun argument. If you want the fun and sport of it use a bow, if you want to eat elk every year use a rifle. Same with the fly rod, more sporting but I limit out with the right spin gear most days while the fly guys are busy tying and casting...
your local fly anglers suck then. flies will beat anything you can throw on spinners every season, and any day of the week on running water. lakes are a different story.
Had my best day ever on the mountain reservoir. Working my way towards the dam, I used a 1.5" bright silver spoon and caught my limit (4) in Rainbows in an hour. Coming back, I used a dry fly ant pattern with a bubble bobber and caught/released 12 fish in the next hour.
Fly fishing when done right is more enjoyable but every style has its benefits and getting outdoors fishing and being a respectful angler is the best part. I have been recently learning the 2 handed switch fly rods for steelhead and Jordan needs to trying swinging streamers for steelhead with his excitement to aggressive fish takes... tight lines to all
good technique/presentation is paramount for either technique, however I find resident fish attack lures based on territorial aggression. I use ultralight spin gear, can either spin or nymph/streamer with a float indicator or split shot. quite effective.
Trout fishing is one of the few times fly fishing can actually be more effective than conventional gear. Jordan's happy dance when he hooked that last fish was hillarious!
@@joeschranz4525 mainly because most flies are small enough. trout magnet + UL spinning rod is just as good for bluegill. they'll attack just about anything, the only issue is actually hooking them
I'm a spin guy myself although I've never tried the fly. My setup is a Phenix Elixir 6'6" ultralight rod with a rebuilt Penn 430ss (can't beat 'em) loaded up with 4lb fluorocarbon.
Spin wins by the simple fact that you had to switch sides of the lake to fly fish. Spin will work the entire lake regardless of wind. I fish both and it's about 50-50.
I used flyrod only from the bank in moving water where I can easily reach the fish. Spinning gear for boat drifting or bank fishing in the wind to get longer casts. Both are mega fun but fish hooked on a fly rod give a more in depth and meaningful conversation between the fish and me.
I respectfully disagree. For both rivers and stillwaters a good spin fisherman can outfish fly fishermen. A skilled spin fisherman knows his stuff and armed with the same flies (nymphs, midges, emerges) and jigs can really cover and fish a river well. Ditto for stillwaters. The newer braids are gamechangers for the spin fisherman.
Dude you tied that blood knot quick! Sorry but I don't have any trust in that knot. I switched to the Alberto knot and have not broke off yet. Love the vids! Thanks for sharing.
When I only have one rod, It's a spinning rod. But I always have a clear, tear drop bobber. Along with my nymphs and dry flies, so I can still use them. Sometimes, trout are more interested in insects. You have a video on this technique.
I'm 100% for fly fishing when it comes to trout! I'm like 90% of the time on the fly rod regardless whether I'm going for trout or other species now lol
I’ve always loved hooking into a good sized Atlantic salmon or sea run Brook trout on a fly over a spinner, but sometimes spinners just do the trick that much better
I'm finding addicted to fishing to be one of my favorite channels when I can't get on the water. I was thinking the fly would win. One thing though. The angle of the camera didn't show a very large lake, but a suspected hatchery pond. Was it? Beautiful breeders in there.
You have handicapped the fly rig's natural advantage by limiting yourself to a single fly! A double dropper might have increased your take on the fly rod. Then again, it might have resulted in a time killing wind knot. ;-> Fun video!
I love the big fish but darn it if that pond/ lake isn't a stocked water body. I have excellent success with water bobber fly set up that is comparable to fly fishing.
What lake is this!!!??? I live in the willamette valley. Will travel for fish. Just got into fishing. Caught nothing so far but I’m hooked! And your videos too! Perfection 🎣
FLY OR SPIN?! What is going to win? 🤔
SPIN!!!
Fly
Always spin🧜♂️
i carry both so...
I wasn’t voting for one I just wanted to see you catch a fish
I think landing a fish on a fly feels more rewarding, put tossing a spinner is more versatile but then again, fishing with a stick and a string is a better technique than sitting on the couch.
You should check out their video on using flies with a spinning rod.

Love the Warped Wing T-shirt. One of my favorite breweries in my hometown.
I just recently found these videos. As a guy that works in video production, these are very well done! Jordan, keep up the good work and keep 'em coming. As a novice fisherman, G-d knows I need all the help I can get!
Catches more fish in a 25 minute video than I have in my whole life lol
Makes you wonder what lake is that
Amen

Definitely fly fishing for trout is superior since their diet is mainly bugs most they're life
@Austin Ivey Same!! I use flies on my spinner rod, almost the same way i use power bait with no weight. Just toss it slightly up stream, let it drift passed some good looking structure or shadows, and wait for that line to go tight!
The more natural fly presentation for the win. P.s love you guys can't wait to see you guys visit Michigan or the mid west
It’s so cute how Little is so into fishing too. Some niceeee bows! I’m a spinner girl at heart and have only fly fished once but never caught anything. Maybe once I do that’ll change my mind.

"Oh no, that fish is educated" 😂😂
Must've belonged to a great school...

The dog was like, let me get a bite of that tasty fish!
This guy is the human embodiment of the phrase "Pacific northwest"
God damn right he is
IMHO, the more you like the tackle and the lure/bait, the more successful you’ll be.
Nice video man! Thanks for sharing
New to fishing. Still looking for the opportunity to go out and fish. But our weather has been insanely hot.
Love the style of fly fishing, its definitely an art of it own.
Keep up the fun video's.
That other video with the water bobber and fly I been nailing trout and got a nice 2 pound large mouth thanks for the tip
This is a really cool comparison that I have always wanted to see. The res shown at 1:10 is prolly my #1 or #2 favorite place to catch trout.
Fly all the way......unless you need dinner ! Still waiting for an episode on filming and editing your fishing adventures staring Shawn the invisible man. Bruce@Palmer, AK
Excellent video as always Jordan. I enjoy both styles of fishing!!
When are you dudes coming to Idaho? Recently relocated to Boise from Texas, and I can't get enough... I'm Addicted! Great connect! I'm thoroughly entertained, educated, and inspired!!

double Improve clinch knot works great .like a clinch and uni combined

"I'm stuck in the bushes, oh God, I'm shaking" lolol this was a great fish off
Im still trying to master trout fishing. Could you guys do a how to choose colors and presentation with all weather conditions
Was cool watching you fly fish and use my favorite spinner I use that one and the black one
I called it . the fly for the win. Love fly fishing. Catch or not still fun... Keep up the good work
This was a great video, I love fishing every technique. They all have their use, What fly fishing set up did you use in this time?
Easily my favorite video from you guys. You are hilarious... I felt like I was out on the water with you feeling all you where going threw. 😂
Big fly fisherman!! That was so money!!!
Go cast for cast.
Time of year, water temp, color, also, noticed your hooking fish next to the fresh water inlet. "Fake lake".
I have both but fighting a fish on my fly rod is just more fun.
The fly will catch more.
good technique/presentation is paramount for either technique, however I find resident fish attack lures based on territorial aggression. I use ultralight spin gear, can either spin or nymph/streamer with a float indicator or split shot. quite effective.
Trout fishing is one of the few times fly fishing can actually be more effective than conventional gear. Jordan's happy dance when he hooked that last fish was hillarious!
SledOrFish honestly it’s a lot easier to catch bluegill on the fly too
Salmon and steelhead on fly is better
@@joeschranz4525 mainly because most flies are small enough. trout magnet + UL spinning rod is just as good for bluegill. they'll attack just about anything, the only issue is actually hooking them
maybe on a small stream, but not in my experience
I do find I get more bites and catches on the fly, even modern poppers. Fake baits on the spinner just can't compare.
I'm a spin guy myself although I've never tried the fly. My setup is a Phenix Elixir 6'6" ultralight rod with a rebuilt Penn 430ss (can't beat 'em) loaded up with 4lb fluorocarbon.
Looks like a pond, but, it looks like a steelhead (size). I love Panther Martins! Mainly a fly caster.
This was flippin hilarious... and educational. I am less intimidated by fly fishing now.
Spin wins by the simple fact that you had to switch sides of the lake to fly fish. Spin will work the entire lake regardless of wind. I fish both and it's about 50-50.
Wow... that was a giant rainbow on the fly. Impressive
The combo of no stretch in braid and setting the hook like you are trying to stay on a bucking bronco might break some leaders😉
And what a BEAUTIFUL win it was!!!!!
I used flyrod only from the bank in moving water where I can easily reach the fish. Spinning gear for boat drifting or bank fishing in the wind to get longer casts. Both are mega fun but fish hooked on a fly rod give a more in depth and meaningful conversation between the fish and me.
That was a ton of fun to watch!
I was definitely rooting for the spinning set up
If I had a pond with 2-5 pound trout in it I would never have to leave!
In streams and rivers - fly fishing 3 to 1. In lakes and ponds - spin fishing 2 to 1.
Fly fishing for the fun fighting and the spinner for numbers and worse conditions.
Flies always out fish spinners on mountain lakes. Stocked lakes I think it's about 50/50.

I'm 100% for fly fishing when it comes to trout! I'm like 90% of the time on the fly rod regardless whether I'm going for trout or other species now lol
My 2 favorite methods!!! great content once again.
Nothing compares to catching a monster trout on a fly. The fight is so much more rewarding
Ahhh man was rooting for the spinning setup all the way, but good and entertaining video for sure!
Great video we need more fly fishing videos.
The lakes near me are packed with 12 inchers at best, god damn those are nice bows
I’d love to see a full episode of you fly fishing that lake it looks like a prime lake for nymphing 🎣
Love it.Im a fly guy so I was pulling for the fly
Agrred!!!
I’ve always loved hooking into a good sized Atlantic salmon or sea run Brook trout on a fly over a spinner, but sometimes spinners just do the trick that much better
What a beast that fish on the spinner is!
I was rooting for the spinner only because I don't know how to fly fish
You should give it a shot! Recently got into fly fishing 2 years ago after spin fishing my whole life. Definitely gives a different perspective!
Nice fish Jordan, you da man! Fly killed it
Hello, great video. Where is this place?
What a awesome video Jordan.
Is this a private pond??? Huge fish for such a small body of water
Jordan u r so funny man. Lmao. Those are some gorgeous rainbows bro
All my biggest fish came on a fly rod ..live bait too , but fly rods are so much fun and EVERYTHING hits flys
Yeeew !!Ultralight Spin brothar !!!
Soludos from Brazil🌲🎣🎥
Should you tip your spinners with bait ? Or no.
Where are you? Washington? I am stuck in AZ without any good trout fishing :(. These videos are so much fun to watch though!
we have a ton of trout in AZ. Hit up the white mountains.
Wa & Or
Dang,banger of a trout.
What fly rod you using buddy
Nice thank you.
Great Job! Lots of fun.
That was more entertaining than I expected
Thanks for showing how, even under the gun, how easy it is not to pollute the banks with tag ends and packing them
out.
I’m definitely a fly guy
Same!
I want to try fly fishing
what size stone fly do you recomend?
Fly all the way!! Best type of fishing out there👍
This was a lot of fun.
Was pulling for that stone fly ;) Outstanding video, very glad I subscribe to this channel ....funnest video I've seen during lockdown ...!!
I was rooting for the spinner :) nice video
I'm finding addicted to fishing to be one of my favorite channels when I can't get on the water.
I was thinking the fly would win. One thing though. The angle of the camera didn't show a very large lake, but a suspected hatchery pond. Was it? Beautiful breeders in there.
My thought exactly. Private lake or stock pond.
I prefer spinn rods for Stillwater and fly rods for rivers.
What fly rod and reel set up are you using?
You have handicapped the fly rig's natural advantage by limiting yourself to a single fly! A double dropper might have increased your take on the fly rod. Then again, it might have resulted in a time killing wind knot. ;-> Fun video!
May have been asked before but what’s the spinning combo you’re using? Thanks and live the channel.
Even a bluegill on a flyrod is fun.
Just getting into fly fishing, so far in the terms of enjoyability
Fly fishing
Trolling with a buddy and a cooler full of beer
Casting setup.
I thought the thumbnail said SNIPPER fishing😂 I was like WHAA😮
That's a awesome catch with that spinner. I didn't watch for the fly one yet. I'm still watching ! :)
Well. You rooted for the right team. haha gg
Im both i love flyfishing and spin fishing
what species of stoneflies live in lakes? i thought they only live in rivers with great water quality.
That was awesome! Love this type of content!
Sweet great fish I'm in Washington thanks for the video! Tight Lines.
Hello. I really like your video. and also I really like your funny dog. Good dog.
